Located just off Route 95 at Walker Lake. Multiple marvels with the campground with picnic tables and shading over the tables. Each has a safe fire pit with grill top. There is a water faucet to get water for putting out the fires on one of the levels labeled. This is just off the road and on paved roadway. Very handy, but is windy and has traffic noise from the traffic on the road above. This is a great rest stop when traveling between Las Vegas and Reno. If you are lucky, you may see a bighorn sheep as they frequent the area.
Helpful Travel Safety Tips: cell signals are spotty and often absent. When preparing for travel through desert terrain and Nevada road-tripping, I suggest the you take the following: a topography map of the state which is much more detailed than a regular map, 1 gallon of water for each occupant, nuts/dried fruit, sunglasses, large brimmed hat, sunscreen, long sleeve shirt, long pants, close toed sneakers/hiking footwear, a roll of toilet paper with a good garbage bag (always pack out your trash), flashlight with fresh batteries, and a blanket. Also, I recommend that you get gas regularly, keeping above 3/4 of a tank as there are areas without gas for many miles between...
Read moreWe arrived in the dark with our 32 Ft Fifth Wheel. Turnoff to the campground was clearly marked. Wasn’t too hard to navigate and set up in the dark. Plenty of available camping spots..arrived on a Thursday night. Was a bit breezy but it felt nice. Slept with the windows open so we didn’t need to run the generator. Woke up to still waters and a beautiful sunrise. Wish we were closer to the water, but that’s what we get for arriving after dark. The lake Is beautiful! Right off the highway so you hear and see some traffic. In the daylight, we found some downfalls. It felt like we were in a spider’s den with all the orb-weaver spiders on the picnic table, hanging from the Ramada and in all the bushes clear down to the dock. Water was clear there early but by midday algae and a film along the surface of the water made it unpleasant to get in. And it got hot out! We came in June. Lots of bugs, dragonflies, nymphs, gnats, flies, and lizards galore..if you like that sort of thing. Overall it was a beautiful place to stay..the scenery, campsites and seclusion made it...
Read moreI REALY like this place! It's $6 a night or $36 for a whole week - BARGIN!! And there are so many different sections too! The upper section, as you enter from the Hwy has 3 tiers and each site has the rounded pavillion. If you continue straight, following the camping signs, you will come down the paved road and find a whole other area that is not only lakeside, but also protected from much of the road noise and offering privacy from the sites above, because of the hill behind. But wait, there's MORE!! And if you then continue off the paved road, on to a hard packed gravel one, you'll find yet another area of sites with tables & pavillions - these are mostly pull throughs and have the closest access to the lake itself. I understand the one draw back here is the frequent windy conditions. I have been spared so far, but tomorrow promises to be a bit crazy with gust up to 70mph??!! So, I've pointed to nose of my RV towards the anticipated wind direction and since it's only for one day, I'm sure I'll still love this place, EVEN AFTER tomorrow. Wish...
