Under new ownership. They are locals that are refurbishing the hotel. The rooms are large. Some rooms are set up with kitchenettes. The bar next door is currently closed but downtown has a couple of bars and places to eat. It's down on the river and has a city park between it and the water. It doesn't currently have a sign and it looks like an apartment building until you pull into the lot and see the "Office" sign. It's dark down by the marina and we weren't sure we were in the right place. It looks like you're pulling into the bar parking lot at night but it's a city street that goes through.
The rooms are clean but the decor dated and worn in some. Every room has a view of the river and the old iron bridge. Some rooms have been upgraded. Water pressure is really high. They do cater to hunters and fishers for some of the rooms. They are worker friendly for people needing a longer stay in the area. I will definitely stay again given a need and look forward to seeing what the new owners are doing.
Local water tastes fine. Everyone has been friendly in town and we decided to stay an extra day. The pizza place was excellent and at least one of the bars is supposed to have good food. The downtown is well within staggering distance. I felt a lot safer staying there than along the interstate. The back roads shot to Starved Rock bypasses the hustle of the interstate corridor and winds along the bluff. Scenic for Middle Illinois. I had 4g even down by the river on what's advertised as America's largest...
Read moreI actually stayed here about 14 years ago. It was only supposed to be overnight, but turned into a 5 night stay. The desk clerk, who was the owner (if I remember correctly), was very nice and courteous. I was travelling by bicycle and was allowed to keep it in my room. The room was a typical room, double beds, TV, etc. There weren't many added amenities when I was there, but it could have changed since then.||Location-wise, it is hard to beat. If you come into Henry from the east, you come across the bridge over the river, make a right just off the bridge, go down a short hill and you are there. And yes, as I am sure one could tell by the name, you are right by the river. A real quick walk from the hotel, literally 50-100 feet, was a restaurant/bar by the docks and marina area. Don't remember the name of it, but it is worth checking out. And you are convenient to downtown from the hotel, basically walking distance.||Price-wise, it wasn't too bad for the accommodations. But, I also was there early enough in the year as to get advantage of off-season rates.||I would definitely recommend this for a short...
Read moreFirst stayed here some 30 years ago, as it is located in my Mothers home town of Henry, IL. We has several family reunions here over the years. Was a bit hesitant to book a room, as it had been some 18 years since my last stay.| BUT, the restoration that is being undertaken by the new owners is nothing sort of amazing. Extremely comfortable, well decorated rooms. Very comfortable beds. The snacks and coffee offered for breakfast (and throughout the day) were great. | Siblings, wife, and I sat under awning on patio as we enjoyed a mid west rainstorm, while having an adult beverage. | When we arrived, wife and sister-in-law were a little put off by the on-going restoration showing a bit of new siding insulation. But all doubts as to my wisdom in staying here were quickly dispelled. | Owner and staff were most gracious and accommodating our needs. |I would highly recommend anyone traveling to this part of Illinois consider...
