Hiawatha Lodge — Hotel in Hiawatha

I tried to stay here the first of april. I did not look at reviews because we had stayed in the past and it was nice. I will never stay here again. When I pulled up the first thing I noticed was no one else was in the parking lot. Went in to check in and the staff was wearing sweats and there was no wifi. I figured we had already booked the room so I might as well stay. We got in our room that was on the second floor because I refused to pay for the convenience of being on the first. Which was already an up charge because they wanted to put me and my 2 kids into the motel with 1 full size bed. After we got in the room we found everything covered in dust, the microwave had food splattered in it, the bathroom had no toilet paper and the was opened candy on the table in between the beds. I also found wire insulation in one of the beds aND no visible wat to lock the door that wentire to the room nextra to us. I went back to the office and all they could saywas they did not have a housekeeper at this time and things were slow to get done. I took a refund and left. I went across the street to best western I payed 40 more but I knew the sheets on the bed were clean and the place was safe. I this place 1 star just because I could...

The outside of the motel looked modern and tasteful, so I decided to try it. The price was not too high, although they do not offer senior rates. The room was fairly clean, but very old and dingy. There was a dead spider in the bathtub and a live bee on the wall. The towels were discolored. The bathtub was very slippery (very significant to me, as I recently suffered a serious injury from slipping in a bathtub). The microwave had food splattered in it.

The hallway carpet looked like it was from the 50s, and was filthy. The paint on the walls was clearly very old.

I stayed here overwhelming weekend and the new management they have in there was really good people very polite made sure I was comfortable and had everything I need.. The room was clean, bed was comfortable, clean bedding and clean towels. Even though the resturant wasn't open they did at least had coffee and donuts which my kids were happy with donuts which was nice.. I give it a high rating for the simply fact of it was iffy on staying after seeing reviews but it looked nice from pictures on website and not costly and for it being under new management for the short period it has been it was a good place to stay they are doing...
