Crystal River Lullaby B&B — Hotel in Homosassa Springs

My wife and I stayed here on the weekend of her birthday. We arrived on a Friday evening after a long ten-and-a-half-hour drive from Nashville. We were met with a beautiful approach on the driveway to the small island itself. The landscape was wild and tropical, and the house's large size took us by surprise.

Check-in was great. The owner was amiable and got us set up with our room quickly. We stayed in the Country Room, which was aptly named as the theme was very quaint and cute with all the country-style elements. The room was clean and comfortable. We were impressed with the size of the shower in the bathroom, which even had a place to sit. The beds were comfortable enough. As long as we don't wake up in pain, we consider it a good mattress, which in this case, it was.

Now, the food is where this B&B really shines. We ate like royalty during our stay. Saturday morning, we were started off with a plate of fresh fruit and freshly baked bread with a side of dulce de leche and homemade jam. But, unfortunately, there was one thing wrong with both the dulce de leche and the jam spread, and that was that there was not enough of it! Both of them were so tasty that we both wept slightly when it was gone.

The main course was something like a cross between a casserole and a quiche. It was perfectly cooked and scrumptious. The presentation of everything was well done, too. It was like fine dining in a casual setting.

Though we thought the food couldn't get better than that, our expectations were further exceeded Sunday morning. So, again, we began our meal with fresh fruit and some small, tasty biscuits and bread. That morning, the main fare was delicious baked ham cups filled with sauteed onions, mozzarella, and cheddar cheese and egg resting atop a bed of spinach. We concluded our breakfast with a sweet treat: freshly prepared creme brulee. One about had to roll us out of the dining area; we were so full.

The view from the dining room was quite lovely, with a great view of the water and surrounding islands. But, of course, there was plenty to look at inside as well. Knick-knacks of all sorts sat on shelves and adorned the walls. In addition, there were fascinating 'trolls' made by an artisan known by our hosts that were scattered about the house.

Our hosts really did a superb job making everyone feel at home and well taken care of. Neither my wife nor I can recall anything that stands out as a negative experience. We could not have been happier with our stay. So if you are visiting Crystal River, Florida, and you have the opportunity to stay at the Crystal River Lullaby, do not hesitate to book a reservation. I wrote a review on another website where we booked our stay. But, I want to leave a review here as well. We stayed at an entire week to celebrate my birthday in April. We didn't know what to expect, but ended up having the most relaxing time! Even though I had to work each day in our room, I still felt very relaxed and this is something I find difficult to accomplish.

Daniel and Teresa are caring and we had a blast talking with them each day. We enjoyed doing a few things in the area, but mostly enjoyed sitting on the patio and enjoying nature. Our room was great- stayed in the Tango room. We had free Wi-Fi, and a desk, which I needed for work. The bed was very comfortable and everything was decorated so cute. There was a mini fridge, closet, drinks in the fridge, and a separate toilet and shower area. We did not take advantage of using the fishing rods, kayaks, or bikes, but we may next time.

Christopher, their son, is an intelligent young man and works very hard to get the rooms in order and helped with the morning breakfast. Martina is a beautiful family friend who is visiting for several months and also helped with the rooms and serving the meals. (Martina, remember my offer to help you with marketing still stands- it's what I teach)!

Now, I had found out in January that I am actually a Type 1 Diabetic, so I wear an insulin pump. Both Daniel and Teresa took everything to heart and catered to our dietary needs. I have lots of pictures of the wonderful breakfasts they made each day. Everything was low carb and tasted amazing.

The highlight was the special setting for us on my birthday, beautiful flowers, a card, and wonderful people singing to me. Most importantly, Teresa baked me a sugar-free birthday cake with a very thin line of her famous dulce de leche filling. We could hardly believe the cake was sugar and wheat-free! The food presentation each day was fabulous. We were blown away the entire week!

We were so sad to leave, but we made new friends. I think every day I want to get in the car and go back. But, we will return soon and pick up where we left off! We cannot recommend this location enough (just make sure there is a room for us when we are ready). The hospitality, food, and friendship is something that will stay with us forever. I booked a four day stay in the Celtic Room for my girlfriend and I to celebrate my 48th birthday. Upon arrival I noticed, and soon learned was one of the hosts, Teresa, speaking with two other guests in a very warm and inviting manner. I immediately got great vibes from her! She sat us down promptly and asked us a few questions, one of which was “dietary restrictions”. I informed her that I was on a “no sugar no carb” diet for 30 days, doctors orders. She didn’t miss a beat while jotting down the information. Every single morning breakfast was outstanding, then the fact that it kept to my dietary restrictions was just a big bonus! I can’t stress enough how delicious the food was. I didn’t feel restricted in the least! I actually asked Teresa for two of her recipes to which she generously agreed. I’m literally eating one of the recipes (breakfast buns made with almond flour) while I’m writing this review. Yummy in my tummy! Being honest, I was a little concerned that the property stood alone on a Marshy Island. I thought maybe it would be an inconvenience to be that isolated. Turns out, it was the best thing this property had to offer. The solitude and sheer peacefulness of the surrounding grounds was astounding. Plus, it’s not like you had to drive too far to get some dinner or shopping. There were several places within 10 minutes and anything you wanted to find within 20 minutes drive. We looked forward to waking up and having coffee on the expansive, screened in porch which had many different areas for sitting and relaxing. Watching the sun come up in the morning, was extremely therapeutic at this place. I have a very stressful job and find it hard to unplug. This establishment was able to help me achieve that to a level that I cannot remember in recent history. The room was quaint, clean, well appointed and the bed was extremely comfortable. We looked forward to chatting with Teresa and her husband (Danny) while they prepared breakfast for us in the morning. They are very easy to talk to and quick to help you with advice on where to go and what to do in Crystal River. I can assure you that we will be back and next time, I will book an entire week!
