Island Outpost — Restaurant in Homosassa Springs

We love going to unusual, off the beaten path restaurants, and we found one here at Island Outpost. How more unusual can you get with a tiki hut in a restaurant? It is almost at the end of W. Ozello Trl. Known to bikers as the Gator Tail. It is a restaurant/ convience/ bait store. There are only 10 tables but you can eat at the tiki hut bar. Our waitress, Danielle, was awesome she even shared interesting facts about the area to us. They serve breakfast all day and have daily dinner specials. They were serving meatloaf the day we were there. We started with Crab Bites as an appetizer they were delicious, and the sauce had a nice kick. I had the Island Fish Reuben blackened. I had never had one before. It was terrific. It was made with fresh water catfish, slaw, and marbled rye bread. Hubby had the Club Hoagie and fries. He said it was one of the best he has had in a long time. He liked that they added banana peppers. Everything was served hot and fresh. If you are looking for an overpriced, white tablecloth with linen napkins, then this place is not for you. Save it for those of us who love finding unusual places with wonderful food at...

We visited Crystal River a couple weeks into scalloping season and went to the Outpost on a Wednesday after of an afternoon chasing shellfish. At first glance it didn't look like much. Just a one pump gas station. Packed with cars, you couldn't pull up to the pump if you wanted. Inside was packed to the gills with locals for pizza night. Highly recommended by our boat captain, you could see why. While the pizza looked tempting, we came here because Captain Mike said they would cook our catch. We got some fried and some grilled scallops. Side of fries and beans each. Everything was amazing... Maybe because we were exhausted and ravenous, or maybe it really was that good. The atmosphere inside was some kind of salty throwback, unconcerned with impressing you with superficialities. This definitely isn't Applebee's or even one of the tourist restaurants on the main road. This was genuine...

It's great to see the Outpost open again! Don't miss this gem when you're in Ozello! Island Outpost is ABSOLUTELY my favorite spot to grab a bite in Ozello. The owners & staff are always friendly. The beer is icy cold, and the food is unexpectedly amazing. 😋
