Ah, good ol' Florida weather. In driving down from Tallahassee, it was Sunshine one minute, and raining the next (anywhere from a drizzle to a downpour with visibility about a hundred feet). Also, it could be raining moderately, but yet the sun is shining! Hence the term, liquid sunshine.
While I checked in yesterday afternoon, this is the first chance I've had to start writing the review.
Check in was a breeze. And the desk clerk, Tabitha, was super nice, yet professional, and answered all of my questions to my satisfaction.
ALL of the staff that I have encountered, are courteous and friendly, yet professional.
My room was very clean decent view out the window. And, there were plenty of easy to reach Outlets for all your electrical, and charging needs. They even have a special outlet over the nightstand for both conventional electrical plugins, and USB ports. 8-)
It wasn't long after my arrival, that Mother Nature unleashed some of her fury. It started raining pretty hard, along with thunder and lightning. At least, the hotel did not lose power.
My only complaints: My room is located right next door to the stairs, and the door closing can be heard in my room (luckily at night, it didn't happen often, and the majority of the guests are considerate of others as well); the tub is slow to drain (water covered most of my feet, but did not reach the top of 'em); and a personal quirk of mine, is that the air from the AC blows on you (driving, OK) while in bed, which is something I don't care for (I built a wall with the pillows and one of my suitcases to block it, haha). Also, the AC cycling on makes a audible click that may bother some people (for me it wasn't an issue).
Now, while the walls do a great job blocking sound, the door is a different story entirely! You don't hear people walking by, but if they're yacking, you'll probably hear them. As I was doing my laundry, for which I had a timer set, I was coming back to my room, and from the hallway, with the door closed, I could hear the timer that was about 12 feet inside the room! Luckily, at night, when it's most needed, there's very little, if any, activity in the hallways.
This is not a complaint, but more of an advisory to those who need to use the laundry facilities: While the laundry room is very clean, there's only one detergent available at the front desk. But, NO fabric softener or dryer sheets. So, if you need to do your laundry, you better bring your own supplies, as a nearest laundromat is over 5 miles away. Also, there is no folding table, or a place to hang shirts or pants. However, the top of the machines are very clean, and I had no problem and putting my clothes on top of them.
I was pleasantly surprised by their free breakfast. Not only do they have the typical accompaniments of fresh fruits, cereal, waffles and yogurt, but they had over hard eggs, sausage and hash browns (first I've seen this in my travels). This variety will work well during my stay.
For me, the OJ was a bit too tart for my liking.
Now, I usually don't spend more than 1 night somewhere, so I don't know if this is a typical thing, or if it is more Quality Inn thing: this morning, they had mini cheese omelets, sausage parties, along with biscuits and sausage gravy. If this is typical ofQI, I hope the other places learn from them.
And Sunday mornings breakfast, consisted sausage links, scrambled eggs and French toast, along with the usual accompaniments of cereal, waffles, fresh fruit and yogurt. A very nice selection overall.
Their Wi-Fi is unsecured, but it works well most of the time. And during my 3 night stay, it went out 4 X, but only for a short...
Read moreDespite many glowing reviews for the Quality Inn at Citrus Hills, I am mystified that somehow on the Google search it is listed as a 2 star hotel. This is only a 2-star hotel if 1 star means excellent.
I needed to create an event as the hotel ballroom on short notice. Their Tuscany on the Meadows event production headed by AnnMarie was equal to the success I've had a 5-star hotels across the country including the likes of the Four Seasons, Mayflower and The Plaza.
As a guest in the hotel, I was truly treated as if I were staying with relatives. Front desk manager Karen and the others I crossed paths were top rated in their guest services. From the emergency need of a screwdriver to taking the time to listen to my "stories," this team made you feel at home from the minute in the door and throughout my stay.
I've always said you can't teach authenticity when it comes to guest services. You can treat people right, but when you are naturally caring it shows. Somehow, all the staff I met have that trait.
The surrounding grounds of the hotel offer a peaceful and tranquil setting beyond the pleasing design of the building. The place was spotless and in fact due to my equipment, I needed to move a bed. What I found under the bed and mattress was just more pure cleanliness. These days, when you see "nothing" like that, you know you found lodging second to none.
Thanks again for your treatment, especially Karen (hope I remembered her first name, tag said front desk manager) and AnnMarie...
Read moreThe check in was a weird experience. I saw two ladies sitting in the dining area and no one at the front desk. One of the ladies came from the table and basically tried to shew me away. I got there at about 12:30 pm and check in is at 3. I asked if they have any rooms that might be available before 3. She did not check the computer or call anyone and simply said “ma’am check in is at 3.” I said yes I know but I am here with my dog and child so if a room becomes available could she let me know. She became agitated and said “ma’am we were fully booked and only have three cleaning ladies. Check in is at 3:00-3:30.” I asked if she could take my cell # and let me know if one room became available. She did. The exchange was awkward. I felt like she really hated her job (or people in general). In any case, we were called and able to check in earlier than 3. What was interesting is that every cleaning person we passed was friendly and pleasant. Perhaps the cleaning staff should be moved to front of the house.
The room was pretty gross. Bathroom had black mold visible. There was a big red stain on the carpet that I hope was makeup. 😖 Shampoo and conditioner were noticeably half used, but we brought our own.
In all, it is a dog friendly hotel with a big field in the back. The room and front of house staff were both pretty disappointing. Maybe promote cleaning staff to the front of the house and see how the angry lady in the front does with...
