I've stayed at many locations associated with Wyndham over the years and the hotel at 120 Riverchase parkway East in Birmingham Alabama has the most unprofessional staff running the dirtiest hotel that we have ever come across. This place is way overpriced for what was offered. My sister checked into the location Saturday night after a 10 hour drive and she had another 10 hours to drive in the morning . when she arrived to her $134 dollar room that she paid for upfront with cash, she was welcomed by mold' , dirty pillows , a filthy toilette and dirty tub. She then noticed that there was no fridge or microwave to put her food in. She said that she was going to have to leave her food in her car but I told her to tell the receptionists instead . she went down stairs to let the receptionist know while nicely requesting a room with something to put her food in and all the receptionist said was " we can put your food in our fridge because there are no other rooms" . I was aware that there were other rooms so I called . I asked the recetionist if all of the other rooms came with those amenities and if they were the same price as the room that my sister has . She told me that they are all the same price and it's standard .She told me that She did her best to accomadate my sister and if my sister wasn't happy then she should come back downstairs to get her money back and she could stay at one of the other hotels that were $200-$300 a night . I actually checked the vacancies of two others hotels that night that were cheaper however my sister was too tired to continue to drive and it wasnt safe for her to . What type of response was that anyway? The receptionist continues to tell me that the rooms are standard price and it's corporates decisions not hers.she also told me that all of the other rooms were booked due to an event taking place in that town . (why would that event be any of my concern?) I asked her can I speak to a supervisor. She said that there was none there . she then told me that she would give me the number to " corporate " .when I asked for her name so that i can verify what she told me, not only did she hang up the phone on me but she actually gave me a fake number . I had to speak to multiple people from central center reservations before anyone was able to provide me with the number that I later found out was on the corporate website (which I know she has one-click access to ) . I called the hotel multiple times so that I can get the name of the person who hung up on me and gave me the fake number. The receptionist just kept hanging up and sending me to voicemail . Eventually a " supervisor" picked up . The " superviser" immediately starting telling that me the receptionists did her best and mentioned that I called too much . she did not even ask me why I was so upset or applologize for the behavior of the receptionist after I eventually told her Why. " The superviser " refused to give me the name of the receptionist . Instead , she told me that she would be the one to verify any incorrect information that was given to me . she told me to use her name when I called corporate not the receptionist .For some reason she felt confident that the receptionist conduct was appropriate. shortly after I accepted the fact the whole arrangement was pretty much disgusting , my sister let's me know that there was bedbugs in her bed . she went back down stairs and Alisha put her in another room for less money with a fridge and microwave . So it turns out that the receptionists lied about everything as I suspected. I have never in my life experienced such nastiness with unprofessionalism and I've even stayed at a motel. They all need an etiquette class on how to deal with a frustrated or dissatisfied customer . Hanging up a phone will not solve the problem . Did this receptionist do the best that she could do or did she predetermine the most that she was willing to do...
Read moreI think of myself as a well-rounded traveler (staying in hotels 4-5 nights a week) and am not too picky when it comes to hotels but this by far was the absolute worst experience I have ever had. When I checked into the hotel, the woman at the counter was not very friendly. I shrugged it off and went on my way. I had a later-then normal check-in (around 10pm) and continued to hear people in the hallway for the next hour. They were going in and out of the room next to me. I kept going to the door to check and see what was going on and it was just a bunch of teenagers chatting. I didn't complain. I then kept hearing a scratching noise in the room. I found a HUGE roach in the trash can and I am deathly afraid of those. I called the front desk to come get rid of it and she was so completely rude to me that I nearly left the hotel altogether. I then tried to lay down to sleep and heard the same scratching noise. Knowing better then to go looking, I packed up my belongings and left the room (noticing there were a bunch of dead roaches in the room on my way out). I got to the front desk at about 12:30am asking for a new room. He said because he had just turned his computer off to reboot, I would have to wait 30 minutes to an hour just to see if they even had anything. He also explained that all the rooms on the first floor have a bug problem and the room I was put in was next to the gym (explaining the kids in and out all night). He went on to say that they typically never put anyone in that room as it is the worst room in the hotel (which made me feel like a truly valued guest). After about 45 minutes, he finally found another room on the third floor (far, far away from where I was at before). Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep that night and was thankful for their in-room check-out as my disgust for this place wouldn't have been received so well had I need to talk with the staff prior to leaving. The hotel overall might have been okay but it was the single worst experience I have had and will never stay at this hotel again. But if you do, make sure you're not on the first floor.. you might just get woken up by a nasty bug in the middle...
Read moreI stayed here in 2013. It was for a surgery I was getting done in Birmingham. I wanted a place that felt peaceful and off the beaten path. I will tell you I really liked this place, mostly for its location. It was so quiet here. There was like no one around which was perfect for me. Also had a window on the main floor that opened up. The outside surrounding was just absolutely beautiful. Birmingham is by far my favorite location by far! And I travel a ton. I just like how it’s so very foresty and natural all around.
As I recovered. I was able to walk around and I really liked that anything you wanted was a few blocks away if you went straight out of this hotel and had a fast food place directly to the left of the hotel. But trees in the middle so it was so quiet. If you went to the right.... it was wilderness for a long time and eventually brought you to a gated community.
This hotel was very beautiful on the outside.
I would say the down fall and reason for not giving full stars is the pools were not open and they didn’t state that before coming.
There was one staff member at the front most of the time. Very friendly. It did not come with breakfast in the mornings. Which is my favorite part to add to hotels so I was kinda sad that their wasn’t that option. However it was definitely off season when I came. I think I was the only guest.
I would recommend the main floor for sure and in the summer months when the pool is opened. As you would then have a lot to do in surrounding areas of the hotel and in side the hotel. They have a gazebo too in the back.
I would not recommend to people who want a more busy atmosphere, or ritzy. I was looking for cozy and quiet yet beautiful outside perfection. Rooms were perfect for what I was looking for. May not be what others are quite looking for. If your looking for fun at a hotel or excitement. It’s perfect for surgery recovery or to get away from the crazy.
The pictures are from right beside the hotel. I have way more photos but I would have to find them in my albums.
I would like to add, when I came here my room...
