Americas Best Value Inn Tunica Resort — Hotel in Horn Lake

PROS: Conveniently located to Southaven’s Landers Center and Tunica Resort area. Awesome hotel employees w/sense of humor and a Pokémon calendar on the front desk. Seriously, they were super friendly and very helpful and my interactions with them made up for what the hotel and room itself may have lacked. Easiest check-in and check-out processes I’ve ever undergone. Back door to room that opens to parking lot and your car but entrance through front door of hotel required (key won’t work to enter back door). We actually felt really safe here and were completely unbothered by anyone whatsoever. Allowed us to check out slightly late. No fuss, last minute online reservation Room with king size bed was only $28!!! Just over $40 with taxes and fees. Most inexpensive price I’ve ever gotten for a room. Vending machines… just don’t follow the signs on the wall to the end of 1st floor hallway because they’re not there, lol. They’re across from check out desk! Really quiet/well sound proofed rooms, maybe? We never heard any of the other guests or their TVs. Bed was comfortable and clean, though the sheets were dingy/stained. Room was very spacious. Microwave, fridge, and TV all worked fine. Remote needed batteries but were not lazy and so didn’t mind. Allows pets with deposit. Room actually somehow didn’t have that icky stale smell of cigarette smoke. Key cards actually worked the first time they were programmed … I usually have to haul all my stuff back to the desk and have them redo the programming. Weird rooms marked “Plantation” and “Levee”; late night desk clerk told me the Plantation room was a banquet/storage room, not entirely sure I believe him (I’m kidding) 😂 What a quaint place.

CONS: Room wasn’t thoroughly cleaned—there were some hairs on the floor and a cigarette butt in the toilet; surfaces could’ve been wiped down better, but we didn’t really mind. It wasn’t bad enough to request a new room and I mean… the room was $28 bucks and we booked it less than 30 minutes before arriving to the hotel. As far as I could tell at 9:00, there was no breakfast as had been advertised, so opt for the cheaper price of the room if given two options. Or maybe there was a breakfast and it was just gone by then, but was advertised until 9:30, so still… Again, we didn’t mind. I imagine most people would consider the fact that the smoke detector was in the desk drawer and not on the wall to be a con, but we were pretty glad they were chill on the presence of smoke for various reasons, lol. Even if smoking outside, if the back door had been left open to be able to talk to each other, the detector would have driven us nuts. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It had batteries though and functioned if we had wanted to put it out. I guess the back door to the room could be a safety hazard, but we liked being able to easily walk out to smoke or leave without having to go through the lobby. Both doors could’ve had better locking hardware on them, but we still felt safe at this location and didn’t have any issues with any suspicious or unsafe individuals at all.

** Many of the prior reviews mention bed bugs but we had no such experience. Bed bugs are fairly readily visible and even if they are hidden somewhere, their eggs and husks usually will be seen on white sheets will the reddish smeared stains that look like rust spots. We saw none of this and no other signs of infestation. If this was ever an actual issue at this hotel, it has been remedied. We also did not see any other bugs inside the rooms or hotel.

Overall??? We’d definitely stay here again for $28/night. Location is older and needs some updates and renovating and the room could have been cleaner, but the hotel staff’s friendliness and professionalism + the convenience of the reservation and check-in/out process + the super low cost of the room were enough to make those issues not at all important to us. First, the only reason I didnt give 1 star rating is because of the desk gal.

We booked this through Expedia in our way to Tunica for an impromptu mini-vacation. Upon check-in, the key to open the door didnt work. We were on the 2nd floor.

She walked back with us, and brought the master key after stating the person who was supposed to fix this known issue didnt show up today, but was supposed to the following day. It was clear to the entire lobby what room we had.

After a failed attempt with the Master key as well, she assigned us a different room. We got to cuttin up with her and she miswrote the new room number in the paper, and we asked if she meant 249, not 149, again there are about 3 other people in the Lobby nearby and clearly eavesdropping. Its Tunica, if you know, you know - we were there to do "Tunica" things.

Anyways, we venture back upstairs for the 3rd time, only for the key to NOT work again.. she did indeed accidentally give us 149. Reassigned correctly for the 4th time we finally gain entry to the room.

My wife used the restroom before we began our adventure. She quickly grabbed me and asked if the bug she was looking at was a roach.. it was indeed a german roach, then she found another not 3ft away.

Multiple hours later. One of the men in the lobby spotted us, not only asked us for money, but said the cops brought him to that spot as he was "kicked out" of the hotel due to an altercation with another male.

We did NOT even stay the night... we drove home instead..

Also, the air-conditioner didn't even work.

We wrote an Expedia review that's identical to the above, but limited the characters available.. I wanted to add a few extra details.

The man who approached us, first asked my husband for a cigarette on our way out the door to have a fun night after the room was situated.

After finding us, he told us this story about how he "was just showing this guys girlfriend a video of all his food in his room", and then the guy hit him...

Ive been around a few times in my life and can tell you thats not the truth. The man proceeded to show us the same video, and it wasn't the most appropriate video. The guy had it coming, and his behavior was unacceptable. After my husband kind of shrugging off the situation we thought the guy was going to leave us alone. We were at a machine in the middle of a bonus.... take a hint my guy..

He then walked around behind us, I kept my eye on him, I swapped sides cuz I would have hit him next if he so much as breathed my way he gave some SERIOUS creepy vibes. (LADIES, stay vigilant, especially while under the influence)

He then told us he had some crypto, and asked if "he could HOLD 5-$10".

We chose to not stay in the hotel that night, and instead made the nearly 3hr drive back home after pulling an all nighter.

We WONT be staying here, even if they paid us. I don't dare ask for a refund, we didn't even...

Sorry to have to say this place needs major work. Bed linens didn't look clean..worn out pillows and mattress, walpaper rips, spots all over carpet. When I was at the Casino up the street I mentioned all the issues with Americas Best Value and the Dealer said they are surprised "that place hasn't been condemned." When I first arrived to go inside there were swarms of birds nesting in the entry way. The worker said they spray water at them...they need to do something that works...very dirty and health issue and not a pleasant welcome for people unloading vehicles! At check-in the lady said this room isn't clean,.this room can't put you in..etc. after about 4 rooms on her list she said let me go make sure key works. She returned and someone helped me upstairs (no elevator) Got to the room and key didn't work. Helper guy returned with batteries for door and said he would be back soon. I waited over 1 hour and I left the room due to safety reasons (didn't want the door left open due to safety). I went back down the stairs with luggage back to front desk. Again the clerk went thru rooms list. And finally she said I will put you in the suite. That the room was their "best" per the clerk, it had dirt on bathroom floor, spots on sheets and they didn't have a clean feel, worn out pillows, peeling wallpaper, and several spots on the carpet. To add to all this there were NO fire alarms(all were removed in the rooms); However, at 2:00 am there was a fire alarm in the hallway that went off and stayed that way for around 20 minutes. Please spend some money and get this location up to quality level or you will be closing your doors..one last thing...your breakfast is NOTHING...just a fake display..empty and smelly!!! Quit pinching pennies and get up to HIGH STANDARDS..you bought this place.. Make...
