I'll start by saying the property is gorgeous with the White Oak River weaving through it. I could walk it all day everyday. I met a few of the long term residents, and they are very nice folks. Could say a little quirky, but hey, I am too. That being said, the property has an obscene amount of potential being lost in how it's run. They do a great job maintaining the amount of land they have, but it sorta seems that's where it ends. Some resident behavioral issues need to be addressed, or the owners need to call it what it is, a rv trailer park, not so much a campground. Cigarette butts are all over the field next to the river at the campground. There is the start to a feral cat colony in the works. Let that get out of control, and they'll never get a repeat temp customer again. The amount of unaltered dogs living there will be a deterrent to any camper wanting to bring their dogs. The bathhouses are functional with no odor. They are run down with no airflow, but I have low standards for bathhouses. That being said, the female residents clearly can't be bothered to remove their hair, and one of the showers was filling up with water while I used it. The other had no lock on the door. No lock on one of the toilets either. I understand there's a lot of maintenance to be done just on the land, but the bathhouse shouldn't be ignored. I'm not saying paint the thing every week, but installing sturdier locks and clearing screens, so you can open the hatches for air are jobs that really aren't too much to ask. If the owners want to ignore these issues, maybe they should just operate a day service for paddle rentals, disc golf, and fishing use away from the park itself. I'd love to return as a camper and not a day use, but only if it starts operating more like a campground and less like a trailer park. I'm happy the owner is willing to take care of locals no matter what led to them living in RVs. But living in a RV doesn't mean you have to be trashy. Take pride in the gorgeous property you own. I'm giving it four stars simply because the property is stunning and the people are nice. But really... clean up the act a little, so it doesn't give slumlord vibes. Also, yes, it's right next to a highway. If people see that on a map, book it, and then act shocked that there is road noise, well I don't know what to tell them. I cut my fan to run continuous on my ac unit, and the traffic noise just mixed with it. Slept...
Read moreThis place was recommended to us by some friends; however, they hadn’t stayed at the campground for some time. Yeah, this place isn’t really for recreational RVers. The grounds are full of permanent residents who also utilize all the full hookup sites.
We had to watch our kids like hawks due to the amount of dogs at the campground. The trailer (permanent resident) next to us had a pit-bull mix tied up outside the entire time. Also, the dogs were consistently barking.
Unfortunately, the permanent residents don’t take much care of their areas, so the park is pretty rundown. We witnessed kids on multiple occasions using the bathroom outside by the play park, by people’s trailers, and other areas in plain sight.
I will give it a few stars because the area around it was pretty. You have to look past a lot of things to find the beauty in this place. I’m sure at one time, this was a fantastic little campground. Unfortunately, it’s been rundown and really let go.
I had actually taken pictures to show what the park really looked like. The website is deceiving and probably hasn’t been updated in years! However, I decided not to post them to preserve the privacy of all the permanent residents.
If you are looking for a recreational place to stay, this probably isn’t the place you want. We almost left on multiple occasions, but our kids were enjoying being in a camping trip, so we stayed. However, we don’t foresee us staying at this...
Read moreMy husband travels for a living, this summer our 15 yr old son and I decided to tag along. After camping all over from Pennsylvania to Maryland we ended up in North Carolina for and extended stay and wouldn’t you know it I fell in love with a camper and purchased it! Without having a truck to haul nor a place to haul too!!! My husband called several campgrounds after speaking with John he was beyond helpful answered all our questions gladly and reassured our very new and rookie camper owners he would be there and walk us through the setting up process!!! Sure enough we got there not only was it a beautiful location to explore, John never left our side helping back in level up and even going through some basics we “needed” to know! Only planning to be a few days turned into a month long stay where we fished our hearts out met the friendliest neighbors and explored some nice walks around there 3 ponds. The campground is always clean and closely watched and monitored by John who is always willing to lend a helping hand!!! I’m sad to have to leave the campground I’m gonna miss all the wonderful people we have met and now call friends. Looking forward to next year when my husband travels back down here for work again bc we already know we will have a place to stay surrounded by good friends and amazing...
