This is an amazing find in northern AL. This is the MWR RV park on Redstone Arsenal proper, not to be confused with MWR Easter Posey CG on the Tennessee River. That CG is no hookups and not designed for big rigs. This RV park consists of 70 sites (with more under construction) that are approx 25'x65' pull-through concrete pads with 50A FHU. Only sites 8-14 are back in. Check in is easy: enter through Gate 8 on Goss Rd, find your site, park, and you're done. There are 2 hosts that go around and mark all reserved sites each day. No need to check in at an office. The commissary, exchange and gas station (no diesel) are all less than a mile away. The FBI, BATF, and NASA have major facilities on base along with several major Army commands. No active duty units on the base according to the host.
There is a paved walking/bike trail very near the campground that you can take all the way around the base (12.2 miles). The nearby NASA Visitor Center for the Marshall Space Flight Center costs $25, but has plenty to do for...
Read moreThe park is very nice. Bathroom is a tornado shelter, small, 1 shower and very HOT. Apparently my paid in full reservation has been completely tucked up. I was in site 10 originally, the person there didn't leave. When I arrived it was full, I called the office and was directed to site 23. My reservation was changed on the day I arrived to reflect the original reservation arriving on 11 July to 29 July to site 24. Part of that reservation had been cancelled weeks prior to arriving on 21 July through 29 July. My new revised reservation reflected the cancelled portion in site 24 and still active portion in site 23. But I'm continuously told by camp hosts that I'm in the wrong site, and I should be leaving on Saturday. The park office hasn't actually updated their records in a timely manner. Park us great, reservations seem to be...
Read moreThe RV park is set up decently. Adequate room between sites. No tress, and far more lights than is necessary. Like sunrise all night. All sites were FHUs, but some recent changes to the water spigots in many sites rendered them useless our first night because they were frozen during the cold snap they experienced. Additionally the spigots work with a key, which was missing from our site, so I had to find someone to lend me theirs before I could even attempt to open the spigot. After wrapping the spigot with heat tape, and wrapping it with insulation, we had water day two. The shower house(s), are clean, neat, and heated, but just one shower stall. We are pretty experienced RVers, so we are prepared for most situations. I think I'd opt for one of the other Famcamps next...
