Our yearly birthday retreat turned into a needlessly escalated nightmare of police threats and blackmail over a rules dispute.
My friend has Chrohns disease and a medical marijuana card, and while I fully acknowledge private property rules, we were discreet for years with vaporizers (no combustion) and carbon filters used with the patio door kept open. Never once got a call after, complaints or cleaning fee in YEARS, and for the first three days of this trip, no issues.
Third day, my friend failed to be discreet coming back from the beach outside and someone obviously complained. He was warned by staff to not smoke in the room. We tried to be careful and stop vaporizing, the smell must have remained.
The next morning, there is heavy banging on the door, followed by heavy banging on the patio door, followed by threats to unlock the door and force their way in. I opened the door with no shirt on half awake, and the owner aggressively confronts me about smoking marijuana.
At this point I panic and say Iām not SMOKING marijuana in the room, and I apologize. It was a technicality but I was panicked and half naked. He demands to immediately come in and search the room. I deny this because again I am half naked and my friends are undressed.
He then demands we leave within the hour, and pay a massive cleaning fee, as well as keeping the money for the rest of our planned stay, or he will call the police on us. I again apologize and try to de-escalate, but he doesnāt wanna hear it.
We immediately begin vacating as we donāt want escalation. As we are finishing leaving the room, he inspects it. We ask him if it smells like we smoked in it. He admits āNot now that youāve had a chance to air it outā again keep in mind weāre rushing out the door with our things in fear in under 30 minutes so yes plenty of time right. He reminds us to stop by the office to pay the cleaning fee, knowing we will becauseā¦
The worst part is, as we are packing our items into our vehicle, we see that he has already called a police officer to the parking lot and has spoken with him. He reminds us to stop by the office to pay the $250 cleaning fee or weāll have trouble. He keeps the 200$ for our planned last nights stay as well. Iām essentially forced to pay a $450 blackmail fee under implied threat of being questioned, arrested, and possibly killed by a police officer. If it wasnāt my friends birthday I would have fought this tooth and nail, but it just wasnāt worth it. I was complying and apologetic the whole time.
The worst part is he had the gall to come out to our car after I paid his extortion and warn us that āpolice in Indialantic donāt mess around, and you might get pulled over when you leave here.ā Yeah, duh. You are the one who called them and had us setup to be arrested (Which we wouldnāt have because again my friend has a medical card for prescribed marijuana and this was a civil dispute). He clearly felt some kind of remorse, and admitted that the only reason he did all this wasnāt for the marijuana, but because āI lied to his faceā.
Good god. Management respond how you wish on this one, marijuana is still illegal on a federal level, I fully admit some fault, but the way this was handled was insane and traumatized my friends and family.
Not 4/20...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI ended up booking here because of all the positive reviews. There was a mix up on the booking but that was NOT the resort's fault. I used a 3rd party booking agent and the error was on their end. However, I was very pleased when the owners came up with a creative solution to correct the error of the 3rd party booking agent. (I did learn a valuable lesson which is to always book direct). I had read in the reviews it is a family-owned business, and they take pride in customer service. I can attest this is a very true statement.||I was with extended family, so I had the luxury of seeing multiple rooms. The two-bedroom suite is HUGE and absolutely beautiful. It was recently remodeled, so everything is brand new. There is only one two-bedroom suite and if I could change anything about it, I would prefer it to be oceanfront vs ocean view. ||The oceanfront rooms are older but charming and quaint. They are well kept and very clean. They come equipped with everything you could possibly need. ||The property itself is immaculate for an older property. You could literally eat off the cement walkways they were so clean. The groundskeeper worked sun-up to sundown and took great pride in his work. ||I would ABSOLUTELY stay here again. I would much rather stay at a family-owned business with someone who cares versus paying high dollar for a name brand. You get one free parking space per room. The location on the beach is ideal. I prefer the first-floor oceanfront because I live on the porch and it is literally steps to the beach walkway. There is no elevator so make sure mobility isn't an issue if you are on the 2nd or 3rd floor. I believe the 2nd floor has a much larger balcony than the 3rd floor. There is a nice pool area with music so I loved the vibe. There is also an airconditioned pool house area with tables and chairs and a couch. This was a perfect place to play cards. The resort is also conveniently located and everything you needed is within a mile. ||Thanks Tuckaway Shores for you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMe and the family stayed at this ocean front hotel for 3 days in June. We opted for the ocean front view room which was on the top floor. The view is amazingly relaxing. The ocean smell and sound of the waves made this trip worth all the stress of leaving the house in this pandemic.
Room: The room was clean. But my OCD kicked when I found a speck of dust. So I wiped down all areas I deemed high touch areas. The size was great for 4 of us. There was a queen bed as you walk in, then in the living area there was a L shaped sofa that turned into a full size bed at night. There was a small kitchen area with a full size refrigerator. We brought our own utensils. But the kitchen was fully equiped with silverware, cookware, toaster, glassware etc etc. One issue we had was the AC. It sometimes was cooling perfectly but then it would not...but it was still keeping us comfortable inside when the outside temp was hovering around 100 F. It would be nice if there was a way to add a door or blinds between the living area and the bedroom area to give parents their own space.
Amenities: The family enjoyed the pool. It was perfect...clean, well maintained. The beach was a few steps away. And the hotel provided a few beach chairs and umbrella to guests. If you like fishing, that can be done at the beach...I swear I saw so many fish jumping in that water not even 20 feet from the beach...IF you catch any, there is a fish cleaning station close to the grill. BBQ area was a nice surprise. I expected one of those park type grills, bt the had a green egg and a nice sitting area to enjoy your meal. The management provides the charcoal and a chimney to start your charcoal. Location was great. Lots of restaurants and bars closeby. Also grocery stores as well as regular stores very close.
This was an excellent stay. I would definitely be back.(We travel to that area many times a year to...
