The word I would use to describe this place is... delightful. From the moment me and my wife got there we were just so happy. We stayed here for two nights and three days for our honeymoon, and we could not have chosen a better place to be in the world. I have stayed in a lot of hotels, a few Bed and Breakfasts, and various other accommodations. In all my trips and places I stayed, this has to be the best place. Ever.
When we arrived, we were immediately shown around the gorgeous property. From the breakfast area and living room in the main house, to the pool, to the coy pond in front of secondary house, and then to the private gazebo by the ocean, everything was superb. The houses are all kept niiice and cool, which was a relief from the summer heat of Florida. Everything was meticulously clean and beautifully furnished. We felt at home right away, especially because of the extremely kind and welcoming staff. It was romantic and unforgettable, and was honestly one of the best things we have ever done.
Right next to the breakfast area, which was incredible and stunning with full sets of dishes and glasses, there is a small kitchen. A small fridge and a sink and a microwave, free to use. Great place for leftovers from eating out. Along with this, there is always cold drinks, fresh baked goods, hot water for coffee and coco, and other little snacks always on hand. Also, very free and very delicious. Breakfast was INCREDIBLE. They weren't ever simple dishes like eggs, they were amazing dishes like apple French toast and so on. But they were never too heavy. :) My wife has a lot of food allergies and they were more than happy to accommodate her. Everyone chatted and was so friendly, regulars and tourists alike.
We stayed in room # 1, the top most room at the end of the hall. Our bed and linens were extremely comfortable and nice, and so were the robes that were provided. (Seriously, give those things a try). The bathroom was HUGE and the shower was so clean and big. The jet tub was actually a really nice touch and worked beautifully too. The TV was nice, and at night we had a beautiful view of the ocean, not 150 yards from our house. Our room also came with a guest book with letters from all who had stayed, and a red tinted flashlight, for looking at the sea turtles at night. (Regular flashlights can confuse them, and make them head away from the ocean instead of towards it). Housekeeping was also really nice. Like I said, we never found a grain of sand out of place, even if we brought some in.
The walls, are a liiitle thin, but only if someone is loud. Like a cough or a sneeze. Nothing crazy. We felt nice and private, especially on floor farthest from the lobby area.
The Amenities were overwhelming here. From the full toiletries in our room to the kitchen snacks, we truly were never left wanting. We never had to "make do" or anything. Whatever we needed, was always there. The Amenities do not stop in your room either, because there was a closet outside FULL of beach things, everything you could ever want! Chairs, umbrellas, towels, beach mats, and much more! All free to use, all very nice. It was perfect since we weren't able to bring much in our one carry on. There is even a little shower outside to rinse off in before you go on inside.
The location is even perfect. Our little strip of beach was always quiet and was so nice to hear from the windows. We took some lovely night strolls and had a lovely time on the beach, getting caught in a rainstorm. About a mile down the road there are some great places to eat, especially a local Mediterranean restaurant, which we went too twice it was so good. (Just be careful, everything besides that place seems to close a little early, so plan ahead). There is even a CVS and some little strip malls too. Gift shops and everything else you could want. (closest LDS church was a 15 uber ride too. Easy!)
I cannot say enough great things about Windemere, or the beautiful memories me and my wife made there. We sincerely hope to return one day, and strongly urge you...
Read moreWe arrived at the Windemere Inn for our reserved 3 night prepaid stay during the requested check-in window. The innkeeper, Bonnie, said there was "a mixup" and could not find the room keys for #5, "The Lookout" room, which we had specifically reserved. Bonnie couldn't recall if there were guests in room #5 and so climbed to the third floor to see if anyone was there but couldn't open the door. We were told to sit by the pool while she tried to sort out the problem. Bonnie contacted a locksmith to open the door to room #5. I used the time by the pool to seek out alternative accommodation options in the area but as it was Spring Break there was quite literally nothing available, and I was anxious that there would be no place for us to stay anywhere in the area. After nearly an hour of waiting by the pool, Bonnie gave us the keys to room 5 and told us we were all set. We went to room 5 only to be greeted by the occupants of room #5, who must have returned to the room after the locksmith's departure.
Bonnie assigned us room #6 for the night, which is a pet-friendly room in one of the adjacent buildings. Room #6 was a definite downgrade from the room we had paid for. The room was cramped, loud, and bright at night due to the proximity of the backdoor entrance light fixtures. The walls were thin, and we could hear the family next door and their dog and small children. This was interesting because on Expedia.com, the description of the Inn says that no children are allowed under age 18. Maybe the policy has changed, but if so, the change should be updated as this would matter to some potential guests.
We were told to vacate room #6 after breakfast and were assured that room #5 would be ready for us by noon. We moved our belongings into our car during this time.
Room #5 was adequate but not quite luxurious. The a/c did not run all night (no thermostat in the room for us to manage) and by morning the room was stuffy. It was also very bright. We tried to block the light coming from a stained glass window with bathrobes ($125 if we wanted to take home!) but this did not work well. It was difficult to open the door with the keys. It shouldn't be difficult to access one's room in an establishment that bills itself as a "luxury oceanfront bed and breakfast."
Breakfasts were not special and a bit on the stingy side. Three slices of undercooked bacon were to be shared between two adults. One slice of French toast came with one sausage patty. Scrambled eggs came with something called a "mashed potato ball," which was bland and not hot.
Best part about the stay is access to the beach, but one can get access to the beach for a lot less than the rate we paid.
It was surprising that the innkeeper did nothing to make up for the inconveniences that we experienced at the beginning of our stay. We are expecting a refund for the difference in price for the less expensive room the first night. We will be checking our statement to make sure that the refund was indeed submitted correctly.
Overpriced. Disorganized. Underwhelming breakfasts. Bring a sleep mask and snacks if you feel like risking it. We've stayed at bed and breakfasts for over 30 years from Maine to California and this was hands down the most disappointing stay we've ever...
Read moreWhat an amazing unforgettable experience! My husband and I went for our 4 year Anniversary on a Saturday. We stayed in the Sea Breeze room which is HUGE room and bathroom. with a king size bed, Jacuzzi tub, and stand up shower. The room was spectacular and every little detail was taken care of and it was the cleanest room I've ever seen. There were fresh bakes cookies and brandy in the cottage foyer, as well as kuerig coffee, tea, sodas, and snacks. There was very nice pool with towels set out for each guest. There was a closet full of umbrellas, chairs, and even body boards to take to the beach at our choice. In the room there were even little chocolate bars, as well as a bath robe for each of us. On Sunday morning we attended the dining room for an amazing breakfast complete with fruit, cereals, yogurt, danishes, juices, fresh coffee, teas, and so much more. The tables were set up with nice china, and beautiful glasses for each drink. Then, Bonnie made a delicious breakfast meal with eggs, toast, tomato, and ham with a white Parmesan sauce that was out of this world! The way this Inn is ran, every single detail was well thought out and cared for. Including the way we were treated. My husband and I could only afford one night and that one night was unforgettable. Miss Bonnie made sure we were treated just like every other guest and she went above and beyond to take care of us. I couldn't recommend this place enough and I will come back here in the future and I can't wait to come back!! Such a beautiful property with amazing people running it. Thank you so much, we will never forget...
