I rarely write bad reviews, but this hotel deserves one. I would give it zero stars if I could. ||||My husband and I realized on short notice that we would need a Spartanburg hotel, near I-26, that accepts dogs. Since we only planned to sleep there, not make use of a pool or other amenities, we chose a cheaper-priced hotel, but we made sure it was a Choice Hotel since we get a discount and we have been satisfied with them in the past. The previous reviews for Rodeway Inn were not that great, but most of the bad ones focused on the lack of updates, which was not a major concern for us.||||Upon arriving, we should have been warned: the pool was a nasty green, and the trash bins were overflowing. However, we were tired and rushed, so we decided to chance it. Bad decision.||||When I entered the lobby, there were three people behind the registration desk. Except for answering my questions, they continually spoke another language. While I have no problem with their native language not being English, I thought it was rude of them to be constantly talking in front of a customer who cannot understand what they were saying. I asked for a room on the first floor since our arthritic dog has problems with stairs. After checking their phones for about five minutes (because their computers were down), they informed me that pet rooms are on the second floor and non-pet rooms on the first. I am not sure why they needed to check their phones in order to tell me this, but we took the room anyway since we would only be staying one night.||||The only nice things I have to say about the room are that it smelled fine and the air conditioner worked. The bedside lamp was broken, the sheets were dinghy and worn, the bathroom sink was missing a stopper, and the TV had no remote. Another frustration was that the light over the sink was on a timer, which continually went off at inconvenient times, such as when I was removing a contact lens. ||||As far as cleanliness was concerned, the room was the worst that we have ever stayed in. The refrigerator and microwave had dirty fingerprints on the outside of them. The baseboards of the toilet room were filled with curly black hairs—and a large red pill. How could the cleaning person possibly miss this red pill? The bathroom faucet was broken on top and, worse yet, the broken top was filled with short black hairs, presumably left by the previous occupant’s razor. The blow-dryer had a layer of dirt and a long hair on it. The floor in front of the sink was sticky, so after we walked over it a couple of times, the stickiness pulled all the dirt from the bottom of our shoes, making the floor filthy. We stripped the bedspread from the bed, assuming that it too was dirty, and found that we had no blanket, just a thin sheet. ||||If we had not already unpacked the entire car, including lugging dog, dog crate, and bicycle to the second floor, we would have turned around and walked out. In retrospect, we should have done so. Instead, we left the room to go get a bite to eat, thinking that at least all we would do is sleep there.||||Upon returning, wondering if we had somehow missed the TV remote, we tried to call the front desk. The phone beside the bed did not work—no surprise there—so my husband used his cell phone to call. The lady who answered said that she would send maintenance to fix the TV, but my husband told her to forget it. It was already late, we were in our pajamas, and TV was not a necessity: we just thought we might have overlooked the remote. Fifteen minutes later, after I was already in bed, a guy showed up at our door with three remotes in hand. He played with them all for a bit and finally got one of them to work. Obviously, we were not thrilled with his showing up at that point.||||We finally managed to go to sleep, awaking the next morning to the thought of a continental breakfast with probably the same lack of cleanliness standards, but we decided to at least check it out. In the breakfast room, the seats of the chairs were so bare that they were completely without coverings. Remarkably, though, the food counters and containers did seem clean; however, it was the most pitiful continental breakfast we had ever seen at a hotel: a few slices of white bread, some small blueberry muffins, cornflakes, and Lucky Charms. That was it except for the milk and juice. My husband asked the man at the desk if he could bring out some more food, thinking that the other choices must have already been picked over, but the man brought out only a few more blueberry muffins. These were in the twin packs like the ones sold in convenience stores; the man opened them and began placing them in the bread container. I grabbed a pack before he handled them, thinking at least that would assure the muffins were clean (no, he did not wash his hands when coming from the registration desk to the breakfast room), but unfortunately the muffins did not have as much taste as even convenience store muffins. Needless to say, I ate breakfast on the road.||||I have included a few pictures of the hairs and the worn chairs. I strongly urge readers to stay away from this hotel. I realize that Choice Hotels are the mid-range hotels, not the fancy ones, but this hotel in no way compares to the other Choice Hotels we...
Read moreFirst of all am not the one to complain much, i comoletely reevaluate the whole situation and only stay with the positive impressions. So i had a friend stay with me for a night and i decided to do an early checkout for personal reasons. Since i put the room in my name i felt it was my responsibility to checkout and comolete the stay reservation.well my friend went ahead of me without knowing and told front desk i was leaving and he needed a new key bc he was not gonna leave but stay. I told the front desk that since i payed for the room and was under my name i wanted to leave in good terms and not be responsible for any damages or fees without my presence. The employee quickly dismiss me and asked .e to firgure it out on my own outside his business. I wasnt abt to try to reason with a irresponsible person (my friend) so i stayed in the front lobby and the employee kicked me out threatening to call the police. Finally the employee gave me the reason and since it was under my name i was able to complete my stay and my friend was asked to leave the premises. I asked if i could wait in the lobby while my friend grabbed his bilongings from the room and left but he yelled at me,angry and mad of the whole situation wich i completely understand his frustration but theres ways of asking someone was been responsible by closing the reservation early and notifying of the sudden change of plans. I was looking out for both our interest. Happy customers and happy businesses. I own a business my self and customer service has made me modify my character and how i deal with situations. Clearly this guy wasnt train in customer service. I wasnt asking for a refund/ i wasnt asking for a favor, i wassimply been a responsible adult and it wasnt appreciated or respected. I dont know what else to say but my identity and a room i decided to rent for a night could have turn into my worst nightmare. Had i just walked away and not let the hotel know of my last minute change of plans. Angry peoe can cause some...
Read morePLEASE SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN! We stopped because we were exhausted from traveling, and right off the bat there was problems... the front staff was nice but there was a language/communication barrier so I felt like he really didn’t understand our concerns nonetheless he was truly nice. But that’s not where the problems began, we got 2 rooms (room 114 & 115) and they were supposed to be side by side, we were assured by the front desk that they were, we pull around and mine and my husbands room is on the OTHER SIDE OF THE BUILDING AROUND BACK. So that agitated us but it was whatever, we open the door and the smell of smoke hit us like none other (later on come to find out my mother in law and grandmother in laws room smelt the same way), so it immediately turned my stomach (might I tell you I am almost 9 months pregnant!) and when I walked outside and found a cleaning woman and asked her for some air freshener or something she stared at me for a second and walked back into the room she was cleaning like I was a ghost! So after storming back in the room, I decided I would dare to try to shower. I walk in the bathroom and the vent cover is off and inside the vent is covered in what looks like black mold, I am also greeted by an unwelcomed guest (a giant wasp). Finally after exploding probably way more than I should, I walk towards the bed, pull back the cover and reveal STAINED SHEETS WITH HAIRS ALL OVER THEM AND ABOUT 5 OR 6 LITTLE BUGS SPREAD OUT DEAD (pretty sure bed bugs had never seen any before). So we left, we’re not even there an HOUR. Didn’t even bother getting a refund do to the lack of communication I was receiving at the front desk. WILL NEVER RETURN AND THIS PLACE IS A HEALTH HAZZARD...
