The Worst Hotel Experience of My Life – Avoid at All Costs

I’ve never had such a terrible experience at a hotel. From start to finish, it was an absolute disaster.

We booked two rooms next to each other, anticipating a smooth stay. Our flight arrived in Vieques at 8:00 PM, and we got to the hotel around 8:40 PM. Earlier that day, at 4:00 PM, I messaged the hotel to confirm that the room keys would be ready in their respective lockboxes upon our arrival.

When we arrived, the key for the first room was in the lockbox as expected. However, when we got to the second room, the lockbox was empty. We couldn’t believe it. I immediately reached out to the hotel staff via the same messaging platform I had used earlier, but there was no response. I called multiple numbers provided by the hotel, sent emails, and even left messages, but no one got back to me.

We were left with no choice but to cram four people into one room. Two of us slept in the bed while the other two slept on the floor. Exhausted, angry, and completely stunned by the lack of service, we barely got any rest.

At 8:00 AM the following morning, I finally received a casual, dismissive text from the staff. They showed no concern for the situation, acted as if it was no big deal, and offered nothing more than their “free breakfast” as compensation. They didn’t even mention a refund for the room we couldn’t use.

When I pointed out their mistake and asked how they intended to resolve the issue, they seemed clueless. We had to suggest the idea of using a master key, to which they replied, “Oh, right.” The lack of competence and care was astonishing.

The next day, when we went to request a refund, the experience got even worse. A staff member initially offered a credit for future stays (as if we’d ever return). When we insisted on a refund, she said she had to call the manager, who would arrive in an hour. We wasted more time waiting for answers, only to be told we wouldn’t receive a full refund for the night we couldn’t stay in the second room. We had to practically beg for compensation for a problem they caused.

And the issues didn’t stop there. The rooms were absolutely filthy. Here’s what we found: • Toenail clippings scattered across the floor. • A bathroom ceiling fan coated in thick dust, clearly not cleaned in years. • A broken ceiling fan in the main room. • A dirty, moldy shower that felt unhygienic to use. • The outside terrace had a bloody bandage on the floor completely unacceptable.

This place is a nightmare. The staff is unresponsive, the management is unprofessional, and the accommodations are far from clean or comfortable. I strongly advise anyone considering this hotel to look elsewhere. Save your money, time, and sanity this is not a place worth staying...

Our stay at Old Crow Hotel and Suites was nothing short of spectacular. The moment we stepped into our room, we were greeted by a spacious, immaculate space that immediately felt like a home away from home. The room's view was breathtaking, offering a stunning panorama over the serene pool and the vast ocean stretching towards the main island.

The hospitality at Old Crow Hotel and Suites is unparalleled. The staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to ensure our comfort and satisfaction, embodying a level of service that truly enhanced our experience. Moreover, the room rates were very reasonable, offering excellent value for such a high standard of accommodation.

One of the highlights of our stay was the charming small bar, where we indulged in a variety of superb mocktails and cocktails. The convenience of having these refreshing drinks delivered right to the poolside added a luxurious touch to our afternoons.

The attention to detail in the hotel's design was remarkable. Every aspect, from the air conditioning units to the doors and fixtures, reflected a thoughtful and meticulous approach. The art adorning the walls was nothing short of incredible, adding an extra layer of sophistication and charm to the ambiance.

Centrally located, Old Crow Hotel and Suites provided easy access to everything on the island. Its prime location made it effortless to explore and enjoy all that the island has to offer.

The pool was a wonderful retreat, providing a fun and relaxing way to cool down while mingling with guests from around the world. It was a vibrant and refreshing hub that enriched our stay.

This hotel offers a harmonious blend of comfort, convenience, and style. It is a haven of relaxation and enjoyment, making it a perfect choice for anyone looking to experience the best of island...

We reserved a room at The Old Crow Hotel and Suites via Airbnb at 8:30 PM, received confirmation, were charged immediately, and were told check-in was at 9 PM. When we arrived promptly at 9, the property was completely deserted. There were no check-in instructions, no staff on site, and no way to access the room we had paid for.

We waited outside in the rain for over two hours trying to get help. Repeated calls went unanswered. Airbnb customer support couldn’t reach them either. We were stranded on Vieques with our luggage, late at night, in the rain.

To make matters worse, my partner is disabled and has terminal cancer. He walks with a cane and relies on timely access to food and medication. Because of the negligence and utter lack of communication from this property, we were not only left in the cold—he was unable to take his medication on time and we had no safe place to go.

It’s now a full day later, and we’ve still received no contact, no apology, and no accountability from the hosts. This was one of the most upsetting and infuriating travel experiences we’ve ever had. Shame on this property for operating with such disregard for basic decency—let alone customer service.

(Edit) For the record the reservation was under my partner‘s name,...

So it averages out to a 4.3 rating out of 5. I can explain....the Old Crow is in a fantastic location, the girls that check you in are super sweet and knowledgeable, and there is a really nice car rental place a stone's throw away, and a really nice restaurant just a bit further down the road. It is nice and quiet here, excellent pool and accessories to borrow and take to your beach experience, etc. The rooms are really nice, just look at the pictures, and the prices are reasonable. Old Crow, if you are reading this, my wife and I have a few suggestions. Where is the staff at night?? No one answers the phone...what if someone had a reservation and got in late? That would be a very black eye if that happens a couple of times. You have a really good thing going here. Also, you have a really nice elevated bar but where is your bartender?? And the sweet girl that checked us in said "sometimes there is food, sometimes there is no food." These are small things but I cannot stress the importance of having someone to answer a telephone anytime of the day when you have guests here. Aside from these small items I will not hesitate to stay here again with my wife when we come to Vieques on out next trip.

We rented 2 rooms: Room 112 (2 people) and 113 (4 people). We would not stay again and don't recommend it. Our number 1 requirement in hotel is it to be very clean. Room 112: Serious issues with cleaning. We found a fake eyelash in the bed close to our pillow. Unfortunately, we didn't take pictures as we were so tired and didn't tough about it at the moment. The bed cover had several stains (see pictures). Mattress did not have a protection, direct contact with bed sheets. We asked for new bed linens, and the new ones also had stains. The front desk person said that they can't be removed (so get new ones!!). Many spider webs with spiders (see pictures). Room 113: Overall ok, but not very clean (our daughter reported hair on bed sheets) and couches with stains. Only one knife and one fork probably due to previous guests. Spyder webs. Hotel entrance: has something like a rental jeep garage in front of the hotel. Gives a bad impression. Other: Kids like the pool there. There is no restaurant, bar or anything of the sort.
