If your looking for a campground near the beach then this is the campground for you because you are literally not much more than 100 yards from the beach at any point once you pull through the gate as it is located on a narrow peninsula with the St John's river on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other side!

Also if you're a 4wheel drive enthusiast that loves the sand then once you drop your camper on any one of the very nice sized sites you can drive your vehicle (Jeep Wrangler in our case) farther into the park and right into the beach of the Atlantic Ocean, just be careful not to drive right into the ocean as there are no boundaries to stop you from driving into the surf and I did not measure it but I would guess that there is about a mile of beach access that you can drive on.

Back to the campground, we booked site # 41 and not only was the veiw of water right out or front window but it was plenty big enough for our 38' class a motorhome with lost of room to park our jeep, bikes and scooters with still have lots of room for the picnic table, fire ring and lounge chairs and still plenty of room to set up games or even a good sized tent.

A couple of other bonuses to note, The bathroom and showers are newer and appear to be clean and well maintained. There is a cool little museum on the property of thing found in the area as well several little shelters with picnic tables near the shoreline for having a gathering Also did I mention lots of sandy beach line for laying out, building sand castles, swimming, surfing, and wind surfing and this is out of the boundaries for vehicles so you don't have to look both ways for cars before crossing the sand😁.

Now for the cons... This is a city park as well so the beach is open to non campers during the day. Dogs are not allowed on any beach but there are plenty of areas to walk them in veiw of the water. There are no full hookup sites but there is a dump station on site centrally located near the center of the campground as well as a separate fresh water station for filling your fresh water tank. There are a lot of protected dunes around the perimeter of the campground so you do have to walk or to drive to an access point but it not to fare and like I said you can there is about a mile of pristine sandy beach line that you can drive on so if you don't want to walk just load you beach chairs and toys into your car and drive right down into the surf if you really want to. One last con is that our first night the winds were gusting up to 30mph and though there were people I don't know that I would have wanted to be in a tent or a popup camper as there is very...

I am not from the area and decided to stay at this campground specifically because of the close beach access. Overall, not impressed at all. First, the bathrooms are repulsive, and I’m not saying this lightly. I have camped my entire life at multiple, multiple campgrounds and these bathrooms were by far the worst I have experienced. They are dirty, wet, sandy, trashcans are overflowing and smell horrific. I believe they may have been cleaned at most once per day (which as you can imagine is not nearly enough with 100s-1000s of people using them per day considering the bathrooms are open for public use to beach goers). I couldn’t bring myself to shower more than one night in their shower facilities. There is standing muddy water on the ground, no where to put your stuff, and not enough space to get dried off. There was hair and dirt literally everywhere. Another con, there is absolutely no privacy camping here, especially on the weekends. It is so busy and loud with non-campers going to the beach. The only peace and quiet you will get is past 8pm.

The reason I gave it 2 stars is because the views are amazing and the price is very reasonable. There is water on all sides of the campground. The ocean is so close and it’s really nice that campers can stay on the beach later than the public. The sites are decently sized and you aren’t right on top of...

I brought my 6 year old daughter for her first camping trip. I'm somewhere in between 3 and 4 stars. The reason I'm going to lean more towards 3 stars is the crowded level. Obviously I did know what I was getting into based off how busy the park gets despite the camping aspect but there is also quite a few campers slapped into one area so keep that in mind. I'm sure there are some better spots don't get me wrong but it's not a very secluded feel at all. That being said there are definitely still a lot of pros so don't take my review as the gold standard because your needs and wants certainly may be different.

Pros: Electric at campsite Picnic table and fire pit Bathrooms and showers relatively close Playground and limited hours nature center to entertain little ones Beaches and areas to go fishing and great views by the water

Cons: Crowded and noisy with cars driving by blaring music on their way back and forth from the beach Very windy and no cover from the sun Busy campground at night so be prepared for car doors closing and people starting them in the middle of the night Seagulls (or flying rats as I like to call them) are very aggressive here because of all the people. They were stealing my bait as I cast lines and harassing other people on the beach and by...

We had a nice time - the weather was brr … chilly but it was worth it. We expected it to be since it was January and the country was expecting freezing temperatures. We tent camped- tip bring your own drinking and cooking water. They have two restroom areas, showers with codes needed for access, playground, seasonal nature center, pavilion can be scheduled. Fishing, biking, hiking, swimming. Dolphin sighting, sea life and shark teeth, shells, and so much more. Mayport Naval base is across the river- and base noises should be expected - helicopter training, loud speakers, and plenty of ships passing. Some sites are not as level as others. Some are on the park’s main road (inlet side). Fire ring and electrical hookups at sites. It was breezy of the ocean/ water. You can drive on the beach with a 4x4 vehicle. Two waters to be on - the inlet and the ocean. Inlet you can kayak and canoe. Several reviews mentioned sand fleas- at THIS TIME OF YEAR THERE WERE NO SAND FLEAS or bugs. So we enjoyed our visit!

The location is great to visit. If you are planning a long beach stay, this is idea HOWEVER COMMA, The showers had back mold around the whole interior. The mold was in the shower. The bathrooms were disgusting. They have the nerve to tell people not to bring their own portable toilet. I had to use the shower and felt just as dirty coming out. I am going back for labor day weekend for 3 days and will be taking my rv this time. People were friendly and like to talk to you weather or not you wanted to company. I recommend not getting a spot on the interior sites. That way you don't feel surrounded. Don't be a late night party group, they will shut it down. Another negative, after 10. Pm you are locked in. Meaning you can leave but can't return. Privacy is very minimal the best part about this place is access to the beach. I did all my enjoyment of this place on the beach.
