Review updated . This place got updated BIG time since I have been here. It was a great experience again.
Stayed spot 329 Jul 12- Jul 15th Pros: They are deadly serious about not being inconsiderate. Even during the day. Want to crank your radio. You will get told to turn it down so it cant be heard off your site. Staffed really well - These people arent volunteers and it shows. Office staff was very accommodating and professional. Constantly doing maintenance on the property Put your trash in bags by the roadway every hour they come by and take it. Spots are clean - Spacious - and did I mention quiet? For a campground with 250 sites they have 7 pump out stations. The pump out stations are setup great too. Didn't need to pull out the long hose. water pressure was VERY high which was great for back washing my black tank. Shower houses are pretty convenient Discount program for subsequent stays all the way to 30% off. No cellphone service We did the 5 mile Kayak trip on Monday and it was nice. Because of where our trip went it was clear of other people on the river. Everything they have is well maintained. From the Kubota/John Deere Zero turn mowers to the Ford Transit vans they use for the river trips. The whole place looks clean and inviting.
Cons: No cellphone service. Wow the pit toilets are horrendous. I mean seriously. WOW. It is FAR from everything- This might be a Pro. there are 5 muddy sites when it rains. (I comment on this below)
Id like to address some of the nonsense I read in other reviews too.
"Grass not cut" - Monday starting at 10am 5 Zero turn mowers were out cutting the grass until about 1pm 4 were John Deere and one Kubota. They also ran on Tuesday the day we left. The grass cutting was actually over done. They cut areas they already cut the day before. 5 kids out cutting grass for the better part of 4 hours. I did not remember seeing them saturday or sunday (It was packed) The grass wasnt particular long before it was cut either. so "Grass not cut? my observations say this is false. They were NOT lazy either they moved all the tables and fire rings and when they were done they put the fire ring on it's side and the picnic table back where it belonged.
"Needles in the bathroom" - I am a type 1 diabetic. Used the shower house 3x and 4 different pit toilets. There were no "needles" in any of them. The trash cans were interestingly very small like one you would see in your home bathroom.
Muddy spots? yea I saw about 5 spots that were muddy near the road. Even in those spots there were places I could have put my camper that would not have been in or near mud. On all sites there are spots you wont be in mud because the spots are big. Not bad out of 250 spots. I marked them down on a map 104 was bad so was 102. 623 621 303 302 all had some mud however it rained a ton on sunday so I got to see it "as bad as it is going to get" Those were the sites that had mud. By tuesday the spots were dry again.
To the person suggestion they go to Mohican Adventure lol No. That place is the complete antithesis of Mohican Wilderness and what they stand for. Some people like loud parties and noise. I DO not. This place has a vibe that fits my wife and I. Hopefully I have given you a good fair representation of...
Read moreWe have camped at Wilderness for many years and it continues to be our favorite campground! My wife and I just returned from celebrating our wedding anniversary at Wilderness. (We were married at Wilderness) Most of our family also camped with us. As always we had a wonderful time. The staff was very friendly (as always) and YES they do know what they are doing! Pricing on the website couldn't be more clear for those who can read. As for poison ivy...Yes it is present at Wilderness as it is at any campground. If you camp anywhere, you must know how to identify it. There was some ivy around our site, most of which was not poison ivy. Just look around at the trees and you can see dead ivy. Wilderness does a good job of keeping poison ivy to a minimum on the sites. Bathrooms? As always they were clean and better than many campgrounds we have camped at. Even the pit bathrooms were better than most. And like always you can take a free shower in the main shower house if you don't want to use the more private family showers. A change this year that was a little discouraging, not being able to leave our vehicle at the landings for a river trip back to camp. Maybe reconsider this change as it was a great benefit of camping here for those of us who have our own boats. We always parked our drop vehicle well out of the way. Maybe consider a designated parking area for campers at the landings and even a parking pass to use them. We would have no problem paying for a separate pass to use the landings like we always have. We were also unable to rent a boat for the day like we have in the past. We hope you reconsider this change as well. We have purchased two boats from Wilderness in the past, after renting them for the day. Over all, Wilderness continues to be the best campground, and our favorite campground. Thanks Ann for all you do!
Two things we missed the most! Our long talks with Ken about nature and the history of this area. He is sadly missed by all in my family. Seeing Ann this trip! She is a...

The not so good: We rented a cabin for 3 nights. It cost $100/ night plus tax and an additional $50 deposit for each key for the masterlock on the door. When we arrived, they had forgot to record my payment and had also charged my sister in full for our cabin. They corrected it, but didn't think they caused any inconvenience and were treating us like they really didn't care that it had. We were told to bring our own sheets and towels. We get to the cabin to find cigarette butts all over, holes in the floor, walls, door, and the perimeter of the cabin where the walls meet the roof all open - so there were hundreds of bugs in there. The mattresses on the bed were only 3 or 4 inches thick, were filthy, holey, and had bugs and small worms coming out holes and on top of them. There is no bsthroom in the cabin, you have to walk down a steep, unlit trail with big roots to get to a dirty outhouse with no sink. Some of the shower houses you have to feed coins in to get water for the shower, some you do not. There's no mirrors in most of the bathrooms and no hand towels or hand air dryers in any of them that do have sinks. They told us guests would just make a mess with hand towels. They treat you as if you are a burden to them and they charge extra for everything. The cabins are basically a roof over your head should it rain and not worth $100. I don't mind rustic, but not being covered on bugs all night for a 100 dollar cabin isn't too much to ask. They did let us check out early and after much complaining, and refunded our money. There are many other options in the area, with nice, hospitable people. You don't want...
