My husband and I had just spent time in Wyoming and were headed back home to eastern Nebraska when the worst thing happened to a person while pulling a 5th-wheel camper on a Saturday afternoon. Our truck dinged at us and said that the engine was going into 'reduced power'. Trying to pull a 5th wheel at reduced power is nearly impossible...30-40 MPH at the most is all we could get and we are 5 miles west of Big Springs, NE. Lucky for us, we made it to the exit of Big Springs and went to the truck stop to see if they could help. Unfortunately, they only service semi trucks...we are stranded on a Saturday afternoon in Big Springs, NE. Worst feeling in the world. My husband and I both thought that we would have to stay at the truck stop, but we noticed a camp ground on the south side of the interstate. This campground called McGreer Camper Park turned into our Guardian Angel. As we checked in to set-up camp, we told Tim McGreer our truck issues. He immediately started to help us locate mechanics that work on diesel trucks, but unfortunately, no one was open and wouldn't be until Monday morning. Not the best scenario for my husband and I since we both had to go to work on Monday. Tim was so helpful! He stated that he would help us tow our truck to a mechanic in Ogallala so the truck would be there Monday morning. He also stated that we could keep our camper set-up at their campground until our truck gets fixed with no additional charges. I have never encountered such helpfulness from a stranger in a long time. Mom and Dad McGreer - You should be very proud of your son and believe me when I say "You've raised a fine young man!" Tim kept a bad situation from turning into a terrible situation. My husband and I will definitely stay at McGreer Camper Park in the coming months and years as we pull our camper across Nebraska and need a place to spend the night and relax! Thanks you for your...
Read moreIt was late and we were tired driving. Nita answered and It was easy to check in and right off the interstate. Site was pull through on grass and easy to level. Full hook ups and wifi. Showers and restrooms were super clean but we did not use. We did laundry, two washers two dryers. Washers 1.25 and .25 for dryers and they get really hot. Unless you overload it a quarter will dry it. There is a lounge area next to the washing room where there are games, books, sodas for sale, tv. I witnessed the place being cleaned every morning. Addressing the cons others have said. Highway noise does exist because you are off the highway. With our air conditioner on we slept well. Flies will enter your camper as it is a working farm. Buy an electric swatter and it will keep the kids entertained. We didn’t get to see any farm animals besides chickens, but walked the dogs around the farm. Nita and her granddaughter were very friendly. Her granddaughter was a young dog whisperer. Our pup melted in her arms and our bigger dog loved her. Good people. A major storm hit while we were there: hail, thunder, rain, and strong winds. We never lost power. We went into Big Springs and drove around and admired the old buildings, people’s yard decorated with antiques and even met one of the residents. You can see the Lincoln Highway signs which predates Route 66. It’s is a small town where everyone knows everyone and are very friendly. One building had old cars and signs on the outside. Post office was small and quaint and Bobbie was super friendly. We liked this camp site and town and ended up staying three days. Ogallala is only ten miles away where there is a Walmart and bigger stores. Great stopover for any size Rv or camper. Flying J across the interstate had a restaurant with a triumph car and other auto memorabilia. We would stay there again or just stop by...
Read moreThe McGreer Camper Park is a golden nugget to find right off the highway & at a great price! It's a multi generation working farm family owned grounds with multiple pull thru and back- in spots. We stayed one night in a Class C for $43. It is only $40 if you pay cash though. We had full hook ups, but only used the electric (didn't need the others at the time). We did a load of laundry, very clean machines, coin operated, $1.25 to wash & .25 each 15 minutes of dryer. My large load was totally dry by 45 minutes. The ladies restroom/ showers were clean and maintained. The stall doors didn't want to lock but there are only two and it was just me so I didn't mind. The shower water was hot, I actually wanted cold but only got hot which I'm not complaining. I didn't get to see Bob the cat except from afar, 😞. Just watch out for the goatheads, they are on steroids, but that might just be a Nebraska thing? Lol Overall, this is a great place to stay, I highly recommend, and if I'm in the area again I'll stay again for sure! Family is super friendly and accommodating, love to support family businesses like this instead of corporate giant RV parks. Thank you McGreer Camper Park for making our trip all that...
