First, the room was generally dirty. The beds were actually clean, and comfortable, but the rest of the room seemed neglected. Dirty floors, bathroom floors were sticky, and the bath/shower was dirty - including clumps of long black hair on the shower curtain. The door to the bathroom would not close. Initially, we looked past this.
However, we later found we were left with only one towel. Then turned the tv on to find that all we have was a snowy screen or no signal available. When we went to use the landline phone in the room to request at least a second towel, and address the TV issue we were told they will bring us a towel and check the television for us. Noone ever showed.
The following morning, we noticed that there wasn't even a coffee pot in the room. And we realized there was a gap around the entry door (top half of right side of door looking in), which you could actually see into our room with the door closed. We did not mention the door - we knew there was no resolution for that while we were there. However, we were finally able to get an extra towel, and coffee pot from the front desk by going and getting it ourselves, but still noone to address the television.
Then we had rain storm, which caused a leak in the window (coming from the top of the window frame) with water damage along the top and side of the window. We tried to use the ice bucket to catch the water, and notified the front desk. They told us they had no other rooms available (which we understand). They said they would come by and check it out. Again, noone ever showed. We did our best to contain the water, and prevent it from getting inside the AC Unit.
Further, when my wife tried to use the hair dryer - it made a loud pop, and actually caused the power to flicker, which we later found out caused the entire building to lose power for a second.
I should disclose - that I was finally able to get the tv to work - for one channel. Unfortunately Hallmark Movies are not our thing.
We were told that the manager wanted to speak to us prior to checkout, and would likely refund the cost of our stay due to all the problems we had. However upon checkout, we were told the manager was not there, but would be calling us later that day.
No call from the manager - so we called. We were told the manager was not available and were dismissed.
My wife tried multiple times yesterday, to get no answer until someone finally answered - and would just say the manager was not available. Again today, we are told the manager is not available. We are starting to thing, the manager is answering the phone, and choosing not to discuss the incident.
I should also share - there was no operational smoke detector in the room - which I believe is a safety/law violation. It had been removed.
Because I cannot say everything was negative - I should at least share the positive.
The beds themselves were clean. The staff, was friendly, nice - they just did not follow through when they said they would. The breakfast was good.
But that does not make up for the experience that we had there. If any single problem had occurred - I would overlook it. But the vast amount of issues - that was left unaddressed by the staff - made the stay itself unpleasant. If the staff would have addressed the issues - this could have been resolved while we were there - and I would not be complaining. We are not high maintenance people - but for the price we paid for the room - we expect to have clean towels (and enough of them), a clean room, a tv that works, no water leaks, a safe room (with smoke detector), a coffee pot, privacy and security (no gaps in doors allowing views from the hallway), and a staff that stands by their promises of checking out and doing what is within their power to resolve the issues - and none of...
Read moreI am so extremely upset and disappointed with my stay at this hotel! At first, it seemed as if our visit was going to be pleasant. We used our reward points as a Choice Hotels member to stay 1 night while being in town for my daughters cheer competition. The hotel was not over booked or over crowded, I would say there was a max of 15-20 vehicles in the parking lot for the night we stayed. My daughter has a baby blanket that she has slept with since she was a baby (she is 7 now). It is not very big but a decent size. Somehow, it got left in the room and didn't make it to her bag. We only had 3 bags with us and all three bags were checked thoroughly when we arrived home and we went straight from the hotel to our house. I know it got left in the bed she was sleeping in! I immediately called the hotel the night we got home and spoke with a lady at the front desk who told me she was working on the laundry from cleaning the rooms that morning, she told me if she came across a blanket she would call me back and that she would also pass the information along to the incoming staff and manager the next morning. I called back in the morning, about 10 am, spoke with another staff member who of course did not know anything as the information was not passed on. She checked the lost and found and found nothing, told me she would pass the info along to a manager. Called back that evening, spoke with a manger who, guess what.... was NOT informed about the incident. So now, here it is Monday (we stayed Friday night) I called back to speak to the manager again and now I am being told that the blanket was NOT located!!! I am FURIOUS and SO upset!!! I know it was left there, we didn't visit anywhere else!! She does not go ANYWHERE without it. She has not had it since that night. It pains me to think that I have to tell my 7 year old that her sentimental baby blanket is gone. It irritates me that someone has either taken the blanket or is avoiding thoroughly looking for it. Blankets don't just walk off. If the room was cleaned as well as it should have been and the beds were stripped and washed, it would have been discovered in the laundry or while the room was being cleaned. Even more so, if the blanket didn't make it to the lost and found then I would be speaking with my housekeeper who clearly has sticky fingers! The manager offered to "replace" the blanket.... there is no amount of money or other blanket you could buy to replace the memories this blanket holds. I just want my baby's blanket back! This is the first hotel we have ever encountered not receiving a missing item back from. We travel A LOT throughout the year, and I mean A LOT! I have left more valuable (money wise) items in hotel rooms and have ALWAYS called and got them back, never have I ever had to go through this much of a mess! Out of all my stays with Choice Hotels and as a Choice Hotels member, this one goes on the top of my list as the most untrustworthy hotel yet! What a shame that my child has to suffer due to the lack of others, and trust me, I am blaming myself so much for not catching that it was left behind but this just makes it...
Read moreI do not recommend at all. Our experience here was AWFUL. We originally booked through the Choice Hotels app and used our loyalty points because this property had a room large enough for our family (3 queen beds). We were coming to town for a family function, and got the chance to arrive a day early. The larger room wasn't available, so we spent the first night in a smaller room with a roll away bed. It worked well enough for one night, and while the facility was obviously tired, we arrived at 10:30 pm and didn't look too carefully. There were a few spots of something dried on the seat of one of the chairs, but since it was so late and we were switching rooms anyway, we just put it in the corner and didn't use it. In the morning, as we were packing up, we noticed a pile of used tissues between the desk and refrigerator unit that we didn't see the night before because we had set our suitcase in front of it. When we moved into the larger room that we had reserved for two nights, we immediately noticed that the seat of one of the chairs was covered in something gross and crusty. We called the manager and he took that chair and gave us a new one. While I took some of children to the pool, which was probably the best part of this hotel, my oldest daughter stayed in the room. When she went to get into the bed, she stepped on a nasty, moldy banana at the edge of the bed. My husband took photos of it and showed the manager. He said that housekeeping was gone for the day and that he couldn't do anything about it - he literally wouldn't get a paper towel and pick it up, we asked and he flat out told us no - he offered to move us to a different room, but there were none available that would accommodate our family without using a roll away bed. Having used one the night before, we knew that the rooms were just barely big enough to add a rollaway and that it was impossible to move around with one in the room. It would not have been feasable to stay for for two full days in a room that crowded. We asked about giving a discount or returning the points we had used to pay for our stay if we cleaned the mess up ourselves and the manager said he 'couldn't do that'. At that point, we packed our things and found another hotel - the Best Western Plus by the Sporting KC/Kansas Speedway seemed like luxury accomodations after the Comfort Inn I-70 near the Kansas Speedway. Obviously, the expectation of a clean room is unrealistic. We filed a complaint through Choice properties, but we want to let people know about our experience with this hotel and the manager.
In the photo is the banana and some of the other trash that was under the edge of the bed. My daughter stepped on the banana as she went to...
