DO NOT STAY HERE This wasn’t a hotel stay—it was survival. Baymont by Wyndham in Kasson, MN turned what should have been a healing retreat into a three-day battle against neglect, discrimination, and unsafe conditions. I am a wheelchair user, bc doctors insist, I do use arm crutches, but my next fall could kill me, as my mother always said I never listen it'll be the death of me. traveling with my fiancée, who has MS. We booked a first-floor accessible suite with a jetted tub, intending to celebrate life after my Mayo Clinic visit—but arrived to find ourselves trapped in what felt more like a being in a horror movie than a place of rest. We were assigned a second-floor suite with no elevator access despite my mobility limitations and the accessibility clearly checked and doubled checked by me when booking. We received no apology, nothing from the manager not even a FU. Only three bath towels, one hand towel, and one washcloth were provided for two guests over three days. Our requests for more were ignored. We might be getting married, but we still prefer our own washcloths when we shower. Shampoo bottles were reused and half-empty, indicating the room was not properly cleaned or reset. Wi-Fi dropped constantly, making work or communication impossible. No contact number was posted for the front desk, and there was no way to call for help. Breakfast was shut down early, and the coffee maker was broken and dripping.
🖼️ Deceptive Advertising The photos online are a lie. The suite shows a large fridge that fills the entire cabinet space. What we got was a half-sized unit that barely fits six cans of pop, with broken parts and a faulty thermostat. On setting 1, it froze our drinks until pop cans and beer bottles exploded. Staff handed us garbage bags, towels, and spray cleaner—so we could clean their fridge ourselves and throw away our ruined food. But when we asked for basic linens? Nothing. 🏳️🌈 Discrimination & Emotional Harm Initially, staff were warm—until they learned we were a same-sex couple. That one detail changed everything. The tone shifted. Help stopped. Requests were ignored. Disabled guests shouldn’t have to hide who they love to get basic respect. And we sure shouldn’t have to do our own electrical troubleshooting or scrub out a dangerous fridge explosion while being actively dismissed by management. 💸 Cost of Survival We paid $264.78 for this three-night ordeal from July 28 to July 31, 2025. I was too exhausted from my clinic visit to leave safely, and my fiancée insisted we stay only because the risks of travel were higher than the risks of staying. Her MS symptoms worsened under the stress. My birthday—potentially my last—was spent not in celebration, but in damage control.
⚖️ Violations of ADA & NEC Safety Codes These failures weren’t just unethical—they may be illegal. The suite failed to comply with multiple provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the National Electrical Code (NEC): 🔌 NEC Violations: | Article | Requirement | Violation | | 406.3(D) | Duplex outlets must be fully functional | Bottom sockets were dead | | 210.52 | Habitable rooms must have usable receptacles | Half of each outlet was unusable |
The room I booked said it was wheel chair accessible and on several websites it says that it is wheel chair accessible, The manager didn't even tell us that there was a closer door that we could use to park to save us from having to walk 3/4 of the way down the hall to get to the car. Other Hotel Chains tell you the easiest places to go when you have challenages to save you from struggling. ♿ ADA Violations: | Section | Requirement | Violation | | 206.2.3 | Accessible route between spaces | No elevator to second-floor suite | | 309.4 | Operable parts must be usable without strain | Staff expected disabled guests to fix lighting | | 203.9 | No bias based on identity or disability | Discrimination after LGBTQ+...
Read moreThis was possibly the worst hotel experience of my life! We had booked a conference room for a baby shower for my son and daughter-in-law and a room for ourselves for the night before. When we got there Saturday night, the lobby reeked of what smelled like paint thinner. We were concerned but, although we could smell it strongly throughout the main areas and halls of the hotel, the staff were pretending not to notice. They offered no explanation. They opened no windows or doors, put out no fans, nothing. We thought it would go away. My husband walked around the hotel and figured out that they were re-doing the pool, which they hadn't bothered to tell us wasn't in service.
The smell wasn't that strong in our room. I had rented a whirlpool suite because I like a whirlpool before bed. The whirl pool puked out sediment and yellow water. After flushing it several times, it finally cleared a bit and I filled it will less yellow water, just to discover the jets didn't work.
We woke up at 6:30 the next morning because of the strong paint thinner smell which by now was in our room and discovered the guy was back down working on the pool again. The smell was horrible and was making us nauseous and giving us bad headaches.
I spoke to Sonja, the manager who was very nice and very apologetic but who said her first notice of this was when she got there at 9:00 AM and she was harried and frantic, trying to deal with solutions for some very angry patrons by herself. I have NO IDEA where the owner was!
There was no way we could have even my 7 months' pregnant daughter-in-law there, much less the rest of the shower. The conference room was right next to the pool and that smell wasn't leaving any time soon! In mid-May between graduations and weddings, we couldn't think of any other venues available and we were in a panic with people coming from out of town to be there at 1:00.
Fortunately, the Sake's bar and grill next door very kindly made room for us and stayed open past their closing time and offered the venue. If not for them, the event would have been ruined!
There weren't even washcloths in our room! All of the water was yellowish. But the smell was impossible. To not even warn us about this when we were staying there and having an event there was ridiculously unprofessional.
This hotel is the worst! DO NOT STAY...
Read moreA large portion of family booked into this hotel because of a funeral. Many traveled over 1500 miles. This being the only hotel in the area, we all stayed. One family me member bound to a wheelchair, had the bed break i his room. They moved him into another room, but, the door would not shut and lock.. One room had old food in the refrigerator. One room the guys had to put water into the back of the toilet to flush it. Another had to flush and then adjust the rubber snubber in the tank to get their toilet to work properly. There were stained towels, hand towels with holes and a wash cloth that shredded while being used. There was mold spots on some ceilings. Maid service, may not have existed as the girl behind the desk appeared to be doing it all until Monday morning. The rooms are all in need of a good dusting and detail cleaning. The pool was broken. Not that it mattered to us. The staff was friendly and trying to do their jobs. This hotel needs regional management to step in and step it up. As is, this is a $49.99 a night hotel. I gave 2 stars for the help trying to accommodate us given what their boss has given them to work with and for the unlimited use of the lobby for our large group. Because the hotel was full the night we all arrived, there were no other rooms to move into to avoid the problems listed. Stay in Rochester. There will be letters going to regional and corporate about the condition of this hotel and our experience(s) staying there. It needs owners who care about customers returning, reviews and what they have given their employees...
