I loved this campground but I had to reduce my rating from 5 stars to 3 because of the crime that took place while we were there.

Pros and Cons The following pros and cons are written with two other Kauai campgrounds in mind: Salt Lake Pond and Koke'e State Park, where we also stayed

Pros: CHEAP! At $3/person/night there's no cheaper way to stay at Kauai (Salt Lake is the same price)

Quiet: We stayed at the end of March and there were only 3-4 other tents. On the weekend, this increased to 10 other tents

Pleasant: Right by a lovely little beach of soft sand, there's no better way to have your coffee (from nearby The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, open 6 am) than sitting against a tree, with your feet in the sand.

Hammock space: With lots of strong, appropriately-spaced trees, there's a number of places to put hammocks.

Cons: Continous space: Like Salt Lake, tent sites are not divided up: There is just a continous flowing area, partially through large trees by the beach, and partially open grassy area (see the google maps picture). As the summer intensifies, I imagine this could be awkward if it gets crowded.

Crime: While we were there, the fuel intake line on our rental was sawn off and 1/2 a tank of gas was taken. According to Bob at the nearby 76 in Princeville, this happens 2-3 times a year. Perhaps it doesn't help that parking is so far from campsites. Our truck, and Nissan Frontier has an unusally accessible fuel intake for would-be thieves. Props to Enterprise at Lihue airport who not only switched us to a new vehcile immedately without charging us, but also comsierated with us while doing it. I also want to give a relucant nod to the thieves who left is with a 1/4 tank of gas, which was quite sufficient to make it to Lihue...

A Hidden Gem on Kauai's North Shore

Anini Beach is a true paradise tucked away on the North Shore of Kauai. This long, white sand beach is renowned for its calm, crystal-clear waters, making it a perfect spot for families and those seeking a tranquil escape.

Here's what makes Anini Beach special:

Protected Waters: A large reef protects the beach from strong currents, creating calm and safe swimming conditions, even for young children. Snorkeling Paradise: The shallow waters and vibrant coral reefs teem with marine life. Snorkelers can encounter colorful fish, sea turtles, and other fascinating creatures. Relaxing Atmosphere: Anini Beach offers a more laid-back vibe compared to some of the busier beaches on Kauai. It's a great place to unwind, sunbathe, and simply enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. Family-Friendly: With calm waters and plenty of space to play, Anini Beach is an excellent choice for families with children. Tips for Visiting:

Arrive Early: To secure a good spot on the beach, especially on weekends. Pack Essentials: Bring sunscreen, hats, water, and snacks as there are limited amenities. Respect the Reef: Avoid touching or standing on the coral. Be Mindful of Currents: While generally calm, currents can be strong beyond the reef. Swim only in designated areas. Overall:

Anini Beach is a hidden gem on Kauai, offering a serene and unforgettable experience. Whether you're looking to relax, snorkel, or simply enjoy the beauty of the North Shore, Anini Beach is definitely...

I camped here for a week. The park itself is beautiful. Great calm bay for snorkeling, lots of birds and mature trees. I didn't get cell service here and there are no outlets to charge your devices. When they say "cold showers" on their website they mean it and it's not private either. Just one of those out in the open rinse stations you'll see at most beaches. No soap in the bathrooms- come prepared. Also the sinks they have outside the bathrooms are not plumbed. The drain pipes go into the surrounding grass. I washed a bunch of stuff with soap only to realize this after. There were some questionable characters about but nobody bothered me. I packed everything up daily, so I didn't give anyone the chance to steal anything. My reservation was checked only once the entire time (very early in the morning) They will wake you up, so have your docs with you. All in all, I'd...

This campground was perfect for my plans to visit the nearby state parks and hike the Nepali coast. The beach was calm most days and ideal for kids to play in shallow water. I woke up to amazing views from my beachside campsite. It was quiet except for the occasional rooster crowing. There are several restrooms with water. The shower stations are completely outdoors and are likely meant to wash off sand. Bring a pop up enclosure if you are going to rely on it for bathing during your stay. Honestly I can’t believe my luck at finding this place. It is an incredible deal for the money.

My wife and I secured a beautiful campsite practically right on the beach in May. Our tent opened up to a perfect sunset. The campground offered quite a few sites, but most were already taken by what appeared to be transients. The small parking lot was also pretty full, with some people sleeping in their vehicles. The campground was a little too noisy for us, but overall we enjoyed our experience.
