Well lets see where I start. T0 begin with the hotel staff was friendly when I called and inquired about a room for the weekend of 5/16/2015. The lady said yes they had a room and it is a pet friendly hotel, total price for 1 room with 2 very uncomfortable beds was $84.14. Not bad at all! When we pulled in we thought it was a cute little western hotel and still the hotel staff was friendly and welcomed us. Got to the room and it was still cute with a sign on the bathroom door stating that if you take a towel or anything out of the room you will be charged since they are trying to keep their costs down (which is completely understandable). WE unloaded our suitcases and went down to the stables to ride our horses, which we trailered up to ride with our niece and nephew. After riding all day long we came back to the hotel to get ready for bed and noticed the bed was very uncomfortable and there was a very loud party going on until about 2am (which we didn't say anything about). Next morning we got up to get a shower and the water pressure was the lowest I have ever seen, mise well taken a spit bath. Still didn't complain, as we were thankful for the room and a shower if that's what you want to call it. Now here is the big issue.....On 5/18/2015 I noticed they charges my bank card for $106.14, so I called the hotel and was told somebody would call me back after they looked into it, on 5/21/2015 @ 9am I called t inquire about the over charge and was told once agai they would call me back, at 4pm still no call back so I called again. Spoke to a lady over the phone again and she said I smoked in the room, funny thing is that we don't smoke!! I told her that and she stated well that's what she was told and the owner wouldn't be in until Monday and I an wait to talk to her. I asked her nicely do I need to dispute my charge on my bank card and her response was do whatever you need to do in a very rude tone. I also told her I will be writing a review on facebook and everywhere else and she said listen lady don't threaten me, do whatever you want to do. I said I will do it and then se yelled at me and said listen lady I said don't threaten me and then hung up on me. SO this is NOT a threat this is a promise and I will write this same review all over everything on the internet. This is not a way to operate a business nor is it a way to treat your customers! BEWARE DO NOT STAY IN THIS HELL HOLE OF AN ESTABLISHMENT!!! YOU...
Read moreLet’s start by saying it’s been 36 years since I’ve stayed here. My first job operating heavy equipment sent me to the Ray/Assarco mine. I knew nothing about Kearney. I just needed a room. From the staff to the residents, I was made to feel at home. Let’s be honest. There was nothing about me that looked like I belonged here. From the acne on my face to my skinny build, I was an outcast. I wasn’t even drinking age. Regardless, I was considered family for all practical purposes. Ya see, I was from the valley and it was November. A huge temperature difference to say the least. I didn’t pack anything warm and was always taught to not bother anyone. The manager at the time saw me struggling to keep warm in the early morning hours as I left for work and asked if I had a jacket. When I told I didn’t pack one, she immediately brought me her husbands to use for as long as I needed. On my way home that Friday, my tire was flat. I had the tools to fix it, but the bottle jack was broke. Again, a few residents drive home to get what they thought I might need to get me home safe.
This community it best described as a multi generational town being supported by the mine. While they may not have much, they make up for with love and compassion for each other. While the General Kearney Inn may not be the Hilton and its appearance is certainly dated, one thing I hope they never change is the kindness they show strangers.
Fast forward to today. I’ve gone full circle. I’m doing the same line of work and while all of the Motels in Globe are gouging people, this place is just as decent as it’s ever been. If you’re looking for frills and fancy decor, move on. Chances are you will also stick out just like I did 36 years ago. The only difference is that the people complaining today are grown adults suffering from a bad case of entitlement. Thank you to all the residents and staff alike for being yourselves and reaching out to help those less fortunate. And most of all, thank you for not kicking me to the curb years ago because I was just a 19 year...
Read moreAdding to the owners comment on Nathan Boswells review. We were given room 53 and found that it was occupied by someone and when we went back to the front desk about it, the receptionist was very vulgar about it and that "they shouldn't have been in that room" so we were handed keys to room 62 when I guess we were supposed to be in 63. We stayed 3 nights in 62 and when we got off of graveyard we thought we had another night, but due to having to sleep during the day and completely forget what day was what and had planned to call the same day when we woke to get another night charged to our card, even though the lady standing at our door, as we packed our things, said we can't call and charge another night over the phone yet I have called before having Angela, the owner answer, and her charge us another night. We never had "multiple keys" to your hotels rooms. I might add that we have stayed in multiple hotels in Pinal County and Gila county that also hold venues such as weddings, birthdays, etc. And have never paid such prices as we have had at the GKI. Unfortunately this hotel is the closest we have to work, otherwise we would have DEFINITELY stayed somewhere else. So to people who read reviews on hotels, be prepared for rude and vulgar receptionists, and random people walking into your rooms... because it has happened to us multiple times in the months that we have rented from the GKI (and no it was not...
