Where to start!? My friend and I were absolutely blown away by the hospitality, the room, and the comfort of the Waldo Emerson Inn. After spending a few hours (scratch that - many hours!) deciding where to go away for a short trip to escape the reality of the pandemic that we are all facing, we landed on the Waldo Emerson Inn in Kennebunk/Kennebunkport. While we were looking forward to the trip, we didn’t realize how special of a place we were staying at. Short and simple: the inn completely exceeded our expectations - from the room to the parlors to the level of attention to every aspect of our stay to, most importantly, Hana herself. Starting with the former, the Sweet Haven room was absolutely adorable. The bathroom was relatively large and redone, and the bed was very comfortable. We loved the decor and the fire was such a nice touch. After taking a peek into each of the rooms, you can’t go wrong with any of them but if I would stay again, I would stay in Sweet Haven because it’s the largest and gives you just the right amount of space. The room wasn’t the only thing well designed. The downstairs parlors were cute, functional, and cozy and there is a game closet where you can play any games in there. That alongside the candy jars around the house and the homemade cookies (omg!!) give this inn a little touch of sweetness. You really felt the history and the charm of the olden days. I can only imagine the other touches in the home if they didn’t have to take COVID-19 precautions. Perhaps the thing that blew us away the most, however, was Hana. Hana is amazing! Not only is she a wonderful host and gives you great recommendations based on what you like and you want, she is someone that you can really connect with. Her stories are remarkable, she is very engaging, and she makes you feel like you’ve known her and have been friends for decades. She is also brilliant and her background in marketing, business, and hospitality only help to make this inn as unique as it gets. The best part of Hana is she is the owner, the innkeeper, and the person you interact with. She is, at the end of the day, the real deal. It’s safe to say that my friend and I easily spent 6 hours or more with her during our short trip and she is a huge part of what makes this inn special. We cannot wait to come back for more delicious breakfasts, cookies, deep sleeps, and wonderful conversations and company with Hana. Hana and the Waldo Emerson Inn set a new bar for luxurious yet comfortable hospitality. Consider yourself lucky if you can get a room here :). Until we find you next...
Read moreWe visited the Waldo Emerson Inn this past weekend and had a wonderful stay! Their Sweet Haven room was very spacious and SO quiet! The room had a comfortable king sized bed, two cozy upholstered chairs where we spent some time reading and enjoying our morning coffee, and a good-sized bathroom with a tub and shower. The bathroom even had a closet where we were able to store our toiletries. The Inn's decor is a nice blend of comfortable traditional furnishing and antiques. Breakfast was a highlight of our stay - it began with a very tasty house-made granola sprinkled over yogurt and fresh berries. The main course was beautifully presented and full of wonderful flavors! Layered on top of a grilled Portuguese sweet bread/muffin, were melted cheese, bacon/onion jam, and a fried egg topped with peppery arugula, sliced apples and deliciously crispy crumbled bacon. My only regret about breakfast was missing the photo opp because I dug into it too quickly! The Inn's location, just a short distance from Main Street, Kennebunk was so convenient for getting to the Art Walk on Friday evening, and just a short drive into Kennebunk Lower Village and Kennebunkport for dinner and shopping. Owner/innkeepers Amelia and Ron were very gracious hosts from check-in, which included a tour of the historic home and a review of the amenities offered, to their full-service, freshly prepared breakfast, to check out. A lovely stay marked by hospitality that will keep us...
Read moreMy wife and I had a delightful time at the historic Waldo Emerson Inn. The back half was built in 1753 and the front half in the 1780, yet this historic home had all the conveniences of the modern world: snug windows, heated bathroom floor, and easy to control heating. The B&B was originally the home of the great-uncle of Ralph Waldo Emerson. One of our favorite times were breakfast. Amelia, our hostess, is a great cook and so much fun to be around. While we stayed 11 days, the variety of breakfasts never ceased.
The ground floor has two sitting areas for guest to gather. One is the living room with fresh baked cookies and a fireplace. The other is a room has a a refrigerator with softdrinks and wine on the honor system. Help yourslef, but sign for the wine and it is added to the room tab.
One the first floor landing is a coffee maker with teas, an assortment of coffee and hot chocolate. Self-service. Handy any any time of day or night.
The structure is along a road with the most historic home in the Kennebunk area. Often the historic homes of ship builders and sea captains from the 18th century.
The is convenient off road parking. So that's never a problem.
It is a place the immediately feels like home.
We would gladly stay there again. In fact, we are looking...
