I am the sister of the bride for a recent wedding that took place at Kent. I also work in the events industry so I'll be offering my perspective from these points of view. This space is beautiful and the staff who were there on the day of, overall were very kind and attentive. The catering and the bar staff were friendly as well. The wedding experience on the whole though was miserable. The full time staff at Kent rarely answer the phone are slow to reply via email, if at all, communicate poorly and relay incorrect information with almost every exchange. In our case the venue was selected for the view, the on site inn, and the beautiful area where the reception would be held inside. Kent started construction and in spite of their assurances it wasn't done in time for the wedding. So the main reasons they selected this location were off the table. From there it took getting a lawyer involved to update the pricing and get new contracts updating the reception and ceremony placement. We also had to ensure the guests staying at the inn could get lodging elsewhere and we needed shuttle service for these extra people from another hotel. Kent did help set these things up. As you can imagine, this was all very stressful for the couple and the family. Sadly the issues continued right up through and during the wedding. The first look photos were interrupted with issues (the tent flooded for a third time) the venue should have been addressing, not taking to the bride and groom. So for all of these reasons I would not suggest having any event at this location. The event and venue specific issues are as follows: No sub floor was included so we experienced flooding all night. Not to mention the staff having to work around this. The tent walls were not spiked to weighted blocks so the wind and rain easily blew into the it. The forecast was for 50 degree weather all week, along with rain. My understanding is that the updated contract (after the lawyer got involved) included heating or cooling as needed and the venue insisted we wouldn't need either, which ultimately we did, didn't have it, and it was not their random decision to make. They also knew they would need pathways to the restrooms. Due to construction we had to have an outdoor trailer bathroom instead of a permanent indoor restroom. They used plywood to create a path which helped, but as this issue was their fault, it should have been resolved in a much nicer way such as carpeted plywood or Dura Track pathways. Plain plywood at a wedding is not very pretty. They included tents on the way in but not to the bathrooms. All tents for cover were mismatched (different colors - also unsightly for a wedding) 10' x 10' pop ups. These were not extended properly nor weighted. Guests had to duck to come and go and occasionally got dumped on. Simply put, Kent offers uninspiring service, doesn't keep the client in mind, don't problem solve or manage well, and should know better than to handle something like this the way they did. When they pushed the wedding outside due to their choice to remodel, these issues became their problem, not the couples. They added extra stress during the entire planning process an during the wedding itself, were unprofessional, and offered no positive solutions to any issue or concern. As a person involved in a wedding there, and as an Events Coordinator, I would never work with them again, and I would suggest you steer clear. You deserve to enjoy your special day and there are beautiful views all over MD. Don't...
Read moreKent Island Resort was extremely underwhelming. Poor sleep due to uneven floorboards leading to a lopsided bed, paper thin walls and a very loud wedding party with people yelling and running through the halls at all hours of the night. Floorboards creaked, and the space felt very sterile, lacking any sort of warm decorative element. We additionally booked (and paid extra for) a room with three beds and were put in a room with only one bed, smushed on the third floor of the building with only tiny windows. Guests on the first and second floors have their own balconies outside, whereas we barely had a window to look out and felt extremely claustrophobic in our room- almost felt like being locked in a psychiatric ward. With a wedding taking place at the “resort” during our stay, we felt like any peacefulness and relaxation was disrupted by the event going on. Very unfortunate that we paid $260 for a night at this place. Wish we could get a refund. We checked out as early as we could.
UPDATE: I received a call from the manager of the inn after leaving a negative review. Instead of apologizing for the negative experience my partner and I had celebrating our 1-year anniversary, she offered a multitude of excuses. I chose to book through Expedia (in order to receive cash back), and the manager stated that “booking through Expedia always puts guests on the third floor.” How is that my fault/issue? She also stated that Expedia ripped me off and that the hotel only received $170 of the $260 I paid and the rest went to Expedia. Please note— the nightly price on the inn’s website was ALSO $260, so it seems to me that the hotel is upset they aren’t receiving the full nightly price and Expedia is taking a large cut. Again, not my issue. She further stated that Kent Island Resort doesn’t have any rooms with three beds and what we booked on Expedia doesn’t exist. Not my problem— it seems you should take this up with Expedia and not an unsatisfied guest, who has nothing to do with the issue. Maybe fixing the booking options on Expedia to accurately represent what your inn offers will prevent future disgruntled guests. The manager then further offered the excuse that “they have weddings every weekend and are booked all year” — again, how is this my fault/issue? If you have weddings every weekend at your facility and this is causing non-wedding guests to have negative experiences, perhaps you should close your inn to the public on weekends, or do a better job or ensuring your wedding parties are not disrupting the stay for other guests. I was then told that COVID supply chain issues have caused the inn not to have rugs and decor, causing the sterile, lifeless decor. Again… not my issue. The manager then FINALLY offered apologies for our negative experience and offered to comp a room at a future stay. Thanks but no thanks— the environment at this facility is not something we’d like to surround ourselves with again.
All in all, if you are not planning to stay at Kent Island Resort as part of a wedding, I highly suggest you rethink staying here and book an Airbnb instead, where the host will actually care to make your experience a...
Read moreI don't know how I even found this place, I think I just happened to find it while looking at the map by St. Michaels. I am so glad I found it as they had a stay 2 nights get 1 free special, and weekend was included! I was able to book a Sat-Tue stay, but the only thing available was the Premium King, and I really wanted the King Suite Water View room. I called and asked if it's possible to move us to the King Suite water view room on Sunday & Monday, since it was available for those days. I talked to Sunny and she was so nice and was able to accommodate my request. I am glad they are flexible especially since it's off season. We had a great time esp. since we were able to get the King Suite Water View room (206), which has a balcony, though shared with room 208. But since nobody was there, we were able to use that balcony also to take some pictures. One thing to note though, the bathrooms were down some steps, so would be an issue for people with mobility issues. But everything was updated and looked really good. Maybe in room 206 they can add a night table on the left side of the bed, I think one would fit there without the balcony door hitting it.|As for the amenities - they have kayaks so we really enjoyed that as we love kayaking. They have bikes but they look very old and rusty, and the place does not really have any bike trails, so we didn't use the bikes. We used the firepit. You will need to ask the front desk during the day to have wood prepared because at night when you want to use it, there is nobody to bring wood to the firepit. We did take a while to put out the firepit, as we didn't want to leave any embers in it.|They have complimentary coffee in the lobby, so that was great. They have a restaurant - 18Twenty - where we ate once, and I would recommend getting the Truffle pasta, it was so delicious! And on Saturdays, it is pasta night, so the Truffle pasta was only $16 instead of $24. |Jackie, the lady at the front desk at night, was really nice and friendly, suggesting places to eat. I had a nice time talking to her.|When we were there from Sun-Tue, I think there were only 2 other rooms that were occupied, so that was really great. I love the off-season as it's quiet. On Saturday, there was a wedding so there were more people, but good thing the guests didn't make a lot of noise at night. This was a great place to stay, especially...
