Don't second guess, just book this place!!
On a whim, we decided to visit the black hills after other vacation plans fell through, so this was all last-minute:
First of all, the owners were incredibly responsive and helpful. Within an hour of finding these cabins online, we had a 4-night stay booked and had exchanged emails and texts with the owners about what to do on our visit....as we were leaving the following day we didn't have a lot of time to research.
The cabins are incredibly adorable, clean, cozy and very convenient! Location location location! Keystone and that surrounding area are centralized to everything we wanted to see, we spent one day going north toward Devil's Tower, Deadwood, Spearfish and the swooped around back through Custer and Hill City landing us back at the cabin. The next day we did the "south" and went through more of the National Forest and Custer State Park. We spent another whole day fishing different reservoirs and were never inconvenienced when returning back to the cabin. The last day we left to the east to catch sunrise in the Badlands to cap off the perfect visit.
The cabins were warm (we came in November), clean, quaint, pet friendly and truly made our Black Hills visit a...
Read moreOur family of four stayed here for about a week and it was a great experience. I'm glad I chose a cabin over a hotel room as it was out of the way and very peaceful and quiet when we weren't out and about. Keystone is a small tourist town, but has a lot to offer for activities, souvenirs, and food/drink. Although the cabins are stocked with just about everything you may need, I recommend you stop at the Rapid City Wal-Mart for food or other amenities as Keystone/Hill City don't have grocery stores/Wal-Mart. Hill City is the closest town with a market, but you'll be paying marked up prices. The entire area around Keystone is easily accessible for all of your outdoor adventures, including a short drive to Mt. Rushmore. You can also rent UTV's at American Pines and cabin guests get a discount (We didn't rent one). I had one small problem and that was our keypad to get in to the cabin had died and it was around 10pm when we tried to get back in to our cabin. The owners responded promptly to our text for help and came out to let us in and change the battery on the keypad within 10 minutes. We would definitely stay here again if we have the chance to explore this area in the future! We...
Read more4.5 stars. This place was great.
On our drive to Rushmore area I saw lots of sketchy looking cabins and was asking myself "why did I book a cabin instead of a hotel". But once we arrived we were so glad we booked this place.
The owners were very nice. They even lent us their board games for one afternoon that we stayed in. The whole cabin was quality built and the beds were super comfortable. We all slept great! There were plenty of basic cooking supplies although we didn't opt to cook. An outdoor campfire would have been nice but the weather didn't cooperate. Plenty of space between cabins and our kids loved the play area.
I would say 4.5 stars vs 5 because we had only a tiny amount of hand soap and no shampoo, body wash or conditioner for the shower. Maybe it was stated in the description and I missed it. It wasn't a big deal for us because we were only there two nights but any longer of a stay and we would have had to go shopping for basic supplies that I assumed would be included.
Overall, we...
