The location was incredible, and the space and privacy afforded by the cabin was nice. The floorplan was spacious and worked well for our family. However, the maintenance and cleanliness of the cabin was a huge disappointment. Several items significantly impacted our stay, causing a stressful and aggravating experience, instead of the relaxing and joyful time that we anticipated based on the glowing reviews and wonderful description on their website. First, we could not unpack upon arrival as there were no dressers, shelving or hangers, and the heavy mirrored closet door was almost impossible to open and seemed as if it would fall off its tracks. We ended up using the bed in the spare bedroom to unload our suitcases, and got our requested hangers by the end of the next day. The TV connection was unusable--we only expected four channels, but got none. The drain plug in the master bath sink was closed and had to be pushed up from under the sink; the sink faucet drained very slowly; dirty shower curtains. The blanket on our bed was filthy at the top edge; looked like a kid wiped his nose on it. Loose doorknob, broken screen door, broken mini-blinds, an electrical socket without a cover in a bedroom, and more. We called Evan a couple of times, but we were too busy each day to waste our time and energy on dealing with all these aggravating items. We expected a simple, rustic cabin, not luxury. But basic cleanliness and functioning equipment is not too much to ask.

We highly recommend!!! We stayed at the Spokane cabin for 8 nights, loved it, worth every penny. It has a full kitchen & stocked to cook & serve food, 1 bedroom with 2 small beds for children and with a private bathroom, another bedroom with a bathroom next to it, a large living room with a TV fireplace & a pull-out bed, and a sun room with a pull-out bed - so could sleep 8 or more if needed - and with a modern gas grill and a fire pit outside on the patio. These cabins are in a great location in a beautiful valley 1.5 miles west of Keystone SD. There was no cell phone reception for us (AT&T) but the cabins have good wi-fi supplied so no problems with contact with the outside world - including using wi-fi calling & video calling. It's peaceful relaxing lodging a few hundred yards off of the paved Old Hill City Road - a perfect getaway spot in the very heart of the Black Hills! The ONLY negative for some folks would be the only 4 TV channels but there is a DVD player supplied, and we did not go there to watch TV - Bruce & Jeanne W.

I would give this place 10 stars if I could!!!! Such a wonderful property and really added to our stay in Keystone. We stayed in Ingersol cabin and it was perfect for our family of 4. Comfortable and had plenty of room. We cooked some meals on the outdoor grill, sat outside around the campfire, and enjoyed games in the sunroom. Beds were comfortable and we got great sleep, very quiet. We enjoyed the extra touches like S'more supplies, a guest journal to sign, and the beautiful and comfortable decor. Quick access to Keystone and attractions in the area. Our kids had fun exploring the woods and creek and my husband and son did a trail that was close by. The outside/above ground pool was perfect for the kids and we choose this location because there was a pool! Hope to stay here again in the future as we were sad to leave after only 2 nights but needed to continue on our journey West! Thank you so much! **Not an issue but just an FYI, the Wifi can be spotty...so have some non-screen activities :)

We just finished a 3-4 day October stay at “the Barn” cabin at BackRoads Inn & Cabins as part of our family roadtrip from the east coast and could not have been more pleased. Our visit was just before snow/winter set in but cabin was warm and cozy (electric heaters throughout). Clean. Spacious for our family (boys 15, 11 and 6)... teenager loved having his own room down stairs while us parents and other two boys were in loft upstairs (us parents had own room too). Two bathrooms. Beds very comfortable. No issues with hot water. Cutely decorated with rustic decor. We did not use fire pit or seating area outside due to cool temps. Kitchen stocked with pots, pans, eating utensils and the basics like a cookie sheet, colander, toaster, coffee pot (with coffee and filters!), etc. They even provided supplies for a batch of s’mores! Provided WiFi in our cabin was spotty and not quite good enough for dependable streaming (our cabin was one of the farther cabins from the WiFi access point). Cell coverage (Verizon) was similar... always good enough for texting or calling but streaming video cannot be guaranteed (obviously nice to totally disconnect but one boy needed streaming for some school work). My only recommendation would be to have some type of on-premises laundry. Nearby Keystone (very convenient) had a single laundromat but it was closed for the season. Hill City apparently has one but we went to the laundromat in Rapid City (Parkway Laundromat - huge, clean). For those cautious about Covid / Corona Virus, note Backroads Cabins can not be beat. 100% contact free check-in and day-to-day living (key for the cabin upon arrival is in a lockbox you open yourself with code). We hope to come again and spend more time relaxing on premises than seeing all the...
