*If you need a park ranger after hours because of NOISE DISTURBANCE at night: CALL 911 AND ASK FOR A PARK RANGER. This information is not anywhere but we were informed by a park ranger at their office that this is the only way to reach a park ranger when their office is close. *
It's a shame but this isn't a family campground anymore. Unfortunately this place became a place for people to party all night long. Me and my family were there twice recently and both times we had problems with loud people partying all night. We didn't see one single park rager around day or night at the campground. From other reviews here you can see that this is a recurring issue that has not been addressed by the park management. My guess is that over time people that are there to camp with their children started to stay away from this place because you can't sleep at night due to the noise and people that like to party keep coming back as there is no reinforcement of the park rules. Allegedly you shouldn't be allowed to be loud after 10 pm but because it is not reinforced people just keep come to party all night. In my opinion this issue could be easily addressed and resolved. The park management could easily have signs at the main office reinforcing the noise ordinance, their website could have information about the noise ordinance and explain about reinforcement and park rangers could go around at night to patrol but unfortunately nothing is done by management. There is also no phone number to call and ask for a park ranger after their office is closed. After having to deal with several loud people partying until around 4 am, the next day we went to the office to talk to the rangers and only then we were informed that the only way to get a ranger after hours is to call 911 and ask for a park ranger. Why this information is not easily available on their website or office is unbelievable. It is like they do on purpose to not be bothered. So if you need a park rangers after hours CALL 911 AND ASK FOR A PARK RANGER. Unfortunately we had to call several times because as soon as the rangers left the campground the people would start partying and being loud again. Like I said before it is really a shame what this place has become and I would...
Read moreNice park lots of things to do. Sadly, lots of mosquitoes with too much standing water and bugs not only mosquitoes but Nats and biting flies! we were so miserable. The rain was bad enough with the mud, but the Nat and mosquitoes were horrific, relentless. I will say, if you book it based on the weather if there’s not a lot of rain in the past or in the future, it would be a super nice experience. Shades of death trail was challenging not good for me. A 60-year-old woman, But very beautiful. I feel the sites are very nice large lots of trees some privacy. We were originally placed beside the bath house on the Pet loop but way too busy. We moved to site 175. 197 was very nice, but it was booked. You can hear the stream from your campsite. So it’s 182 184 186 187 looks very nice as well. I would go back again, but I would make sure it hasn’t been too rainy with too many mosquitoes breeding and check the weather ….no fun camping in the rain for four days! The kids really enjoyed the lake. There is a beach with sand. They were having fun with the creatures in the lake. We also spotted four water snakes, all which were non-aggressive. Check out the Boulderfield. It is pretty cool but watch out for slippery rocks with moss on them. Kids also went fishing at the small lake and at the day use area. They had fun doing that. There is a really really cool café for breakfast and lunch in Lake Harmony highly recommend so fun and delicious food! call Tara Cottage Café and gifts....
Read moreThis is such a special place for my partner and I but unfortunately it’s gone downhill in the past few years. We were unfortunate enough to have the most obnoxious neighbors in the campsite surrounding ours - it was a family that booked 3 sites and had no care or consideration for their neighbors. Not only did they play music after quiet hours until I told them to stop, but the biggest annoyance was that they pitched their tent on the grass that was dividing our sites (91 and 93) which disturbed our sleep due to their loud snoring. They were about ~5 feet away which is too close for comfort. Tents should not be pitched outside of the gravel area they provide because of erosion concerns and damage to the ecosystem - anyone who camps regularly knows this. We told the camp office in the morning about the issue and they said they would send out a ranger to have them move their tent to the correct spot and nothing happened. 2 nights of horrible sleep later and I’m questioning if I’ll come back due to the poor experience - if the rangers did their job maybe it would’ve been better :/ I know that this is a hard job to have in the best of circumstances, and right now it is tough with budget freezes and layoffs, but the thing that bothered me most was that the rangers were making their rounds through the...
