I stayed here as a wedding guest, not my booking. It is a great venue for a wedding weekend, when guests can get rooms here and not have to travel to and from the festivities. That said, there are some issues I have to mention. First of all, the buildings here are old and have been adapted for lodging. EVERY doorway, it seems, is a step up or step down or has 2" high thresholds. Everyone of these doorways should be marked with 'watch your step' or tape/paint to make the transition more visible and safer for guests (yes, I tripped in one doorway and had the bruises to show it). The Farmhouse: There should be something in the description that indicates that the steps in the farmhouse are narrow and steep, so folks can make an informed decision before they book. Aside from the (winter equipment) cubbies, there are few places to put belongings, the downstairs bedroom has 2 tiny nightstands, no dresser, just 3 hooks and 2 luggage racks. The bed takes up most of the room and is designed in a way that makes it a knee/shin/toe killer. The downstairs bathroom vanity has basically no surface area for toiletries, etc. Upstairs bedrooms are a bit roomier. There is a washer/dryer in the master suite, but I was surprised to find, as I was pulling my clothes out of the washer, that whomever had used the washer previously left a LOT of dirt inside, which was now all over my just washed clothes. Owners should check all equipment/amenities between guest bookings, it's just common sense. I can appreciate that there are a lot of rooms here, a lot of guests, and lots to do during a wedding weekend, but it doesn't excuse lack of attention to details. Had this been my booking, I would have raised hell, but I didn't want to bring drama to the event. My husband got an apology, I did not. I felt the continental breakfast offered was bland, and gosh how I hate rock hard butter. I would also recommend an interior designer be consulted to make the accommodations more visually appealing and comfortable and less like a fraternity house. The sliding glass door in the kitchen did not work properly, and there's a sign saying to keep the door shut or hummingbirds will come in the room. Why not fix the door and move the hummingbird feeder to another location? Who is the priority here? The guests or the birds? You might think that based on what I've said so far that there are no positives to be found here, but there are. The farmhouse kitchen was well equipped and large enough for gathering. Also has a large living room. The master suite was nice, but again, more steps up to the bathroom. I liked that the farmhouse was accessible from the main gathering area in the building, and from the outside. Outdoor deck, and firepit areas are really nice. Very close to town/shops/restaurants, but quiet. Again I'll say that being able to have a large number of wedding guests that can gather and stay in the same place is a wonderful way to spend a weekend. The Trailside Inn is good, but could be so much better with some improvements in details and...
Read moreI needed to burn a few vacation days from work before the new year. I decided to head to VT skiing for two days. I was looking for reasonable place to stay near Killington. I was traveling alone and did not need a lot of amenities. I stumbled across The Trailside Inn and could not have had a better experience. ||||This is a family owned Inn and they seem to take great pride in providing an excellent experience. Josh (one of the owners) greeted me on arrival. He was polite, friendly and very helpful in answering questions about the area. Josh mentioned that he likes to think of it as a large home rather than a hotel. They certainly attained that goal. ||||Room: The room (and place in general) was extremely clean. They upgraded me to a King room without me asking (nice touch). The room was simple but comfortable. It felt country but with modern touches. There was no TV or mini fridge but I did not need them. ||||Great Room: There is a large central room that felt like a huge living room/dining room in a large home. It had a great vibe and I spent some time alone in the evening sitting by the fire and enjoying a drink. The room has ski books, magazines, board games etc. It was warm and inviting. ||||Breakfast: A continental breakfast was included in my stay. Due to COVID, breakfast was more grab and go style. There was still still many options. I had a yogurt parfait with fresh fruit and granola as well as fresh squeezed OJ. It was delicious. ||||Location: The location was great. It was ~12 min from Killington. Unless you're going to stay slope side and pay a fortune for ski in-ski out, you need to get into your car either way. I liked that it was not on the access road and more of a quite setting. ||||Overall: I felt like I stumbled into a gem. It may not be a perfect place for a longer stay w/ young kids, but for a solo traveler or a couple, it is fantastic. It was clean, warm, inviting and overall a great experience at a reasonable price.||||I will not be looking for any other place when returning to this area of VT. ||They are doing...
Read moreMy experience with Trailside Inn was so delightful, I'm not even sure how to start describing it. In the summer of 2021 my (then) fiancé and I were somewhat frantically searching for a wedding venue. We wanted a place where we would be able to host most if not all of our family and friends because the most important thing was that we were able to relax and connect with our guests. It was on a rainy July day when we drove RT 100 to the Trailside Inn to meet with Josh and Ann. Even in with the dreary weather, the Inn stood out. Nestled in the woods, just down the road from Killington it had the perfect mix of Vermont beauty and solitude. The interior of the inn has been lovingly cared for by Josh and Ann and manages to be effortlessly cool. And then there was Josh and Ann themselves. They are so down to earth but obviously very capable and organized. We knew they would be a huge asset when it came to planning.
And honestly, it lived up to our wildest dreams.
Josh and Ann are super stars. They were so helpful every step of the way. Whether it was contacting a vendor or answering a question about "how is X typically done" I felt so confident that we had things under control because of them. The weekend itself was, if possible, even more relaxing. When we arrived on Thursday we unloaded food and decor and they just took it all and I didn't have to worry about it again. It left us so much more time to relax and be present.
The inn itself was so perfectly charming. We were very fortunate with the weather and got to explore some of the local area but we also enjoyed hanging out in the common rooms for breakfast, after dinner games, and general socializing. We wanted together time, and we got it.
If I were to do it over, I would get married at...
