Green Mountain National – Vermont’s Premier Golfing Playground
Our group of eight golfers spent an unforgettable day at Green Mountain National Golf Course in Killington, Vermont — and we’re still talking about it. We teed off in two foursomes at 8:30 and 8:40 AM, determined to take on 27 holes over the course of the day. What we got was not just a round of golf — it was a full-blown golfing adventure set against the breathtaking backdrop of Killington’s mountain vistas.
Course conditions? Absolutely pristine. It had rained heavily the night before and even a bit that morning, yet the fairways and greens were dry, firm, and immaculately maintained. The drainage on this course is clearly top-notch — there wasn’t a single soggy patch or waterlogged bunker. Everything was rolling true, and the lush, vibrant green of the course only made the setting more spectacular.
What makes Green Mountain National so memorable is its incredible layout. Every hole brings something fresh — with dramatic elevation changes, strategic bunkering, and meandering fairways carved into the natural Vermont terrain. Holes like: • #6 — A picturesque downhill par-3 over water that demands precision and nerve. • #10 — A sweeping dogleg left where the elevated tee gives you a jaw-dropping view (and an ego boost when you crush the drive). • #16 — One of the course’s signature holes, with a downhill fairway framed by dense forest and postcard-worthy mountain views. • And #18 — A strong finisher where club selection and accuracy are everything.
Each hole is challenging but fair, offering both low and high handicappers plenty of excitement and opportunities to recover. It’s a course that rewards smart play and tempts you to take a few risks — exactly what you want when you’re out for a day of great golf with friends.
After the first 18 holes, we enjoyed a seated lunch at the outdoor grill area — a fantastic and much-needed break. The vibe was laid-back and friendly, never rushed, and the staff were just as welcoming as the course was gorgeous. Ice-cold beers, grilled sandwiches, and mountain air — perfection.
We capped off the day with 9 more holes, energized and ready to take in more of the rolling fairways and stunning scenery. The mobile beverage cart service was a great touch throughout the day — stocked with cold drinks, snacks, and plenty of good vibes.
Green Mountain National isn’t just a golf course — it’s a Vermont experience. With its unrivaled natural beauty, clever course design, and relaxing pace of play, it stands out as the best public course we’ve played in the state — maybe even New England.
We’ll be back, without a doubt. If you’re planning a golf trip to Southern Vermont and play Golf, this course needs to be at the very top...
Read moreI rarely review anything on Google unless it greatly impressed me, or disappointed me, and this review is no exception.
I'm not a terribly experienced golfer but this course blew my father and I away. I've never seen a golf course in this fine of a condition. The tee boxes are all perfectly even, the fairways were exceptional, and the greens are in prime condition. Just jaw-droppingly good. Also, it's worth noting the views on this course of Killington, VT. Vermont truly is a remarkable state and this course proves it with every hole.
This course is SUPER challenging and be ready for some tough putting. I found the front nine to be hard but the back nine was even harder! We would practically kiss the ball with our putters and the damn thing would roll a mile long! Wicked fun golf!
My only critique of this course is the bar inside the clubhouse. With such an excellent course, I was expecting to walk in to a incredible bar and this is where my expectations fell short. This bar… is a bar. Chips and snacks are piled up on a table in the corner, some draft beers are on tap and the menu includes all the bar favorites, hot dogs, hamburgers, fries and nachos. While I'm not complaining, I would have expected this club house to have an extensive menu selection with a much more classy look/feel. However, we came here to golf. Not to eat lunch and order steaks.
Overall, this was a 5 star golfing experience. I will be coming back (and I hope to take some strokes off my game). Come and spend the money to play golf at a course that makes you feel...
Read moreWe do an 8-12 man outing at GMN every year playing 36 holes on Saturday, the course is beautiful and in great shape. The only problem was the marshals and the staff are extraordinarily over vigilant for outside beers. We've been doing this for 7-8 years at this point and we know the drill here that outside alcohol is not allowed so we did not bring any. One new guy on the trip found a beer in his bag and opened it up and was caught by the cart girl who was nice enough about it and poured it out.
Then in-between rounds as we were buying lunch inside, we saw the marshal through the window going through our bags without us. We immediately went outside and asked him what he was doing as cordially as possible.(knowing they already had our money for the next round) He did not find a single beer and responded by threatening us and cursing at us. The guy knew he was caught and was extremely unprofessional. Then the staff banded together against us. When they couldn't find beers then they accused us of playing slow, even though we were waiting on shots throughout the entire round. What was otherwise a great day was tarnished by the staff who seem to take joy in the hunt for beers and accusation of bringing outside beers weather they are true or not. I've seen other reviews with similar complaints for this course, hopefully management can get these guys in line so we can all enjoy a...
