I frequently travel I-80 across Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming & Utah. Western NE was a good stopping point for me because lodging prices are lower than surrounding areas. The town of Kimbell is located about 2 miles north of the interstate on Route 30 (the old Lincoln Highway). Rt 30 is the major street through town & the Motel Kimbell is on it. I had reserved a room via telephone 2 weeks before. They have a website, but you have to call from reservations & prices. The price with all fees/taxes was just over $100 for one night. Check-in was via doorbell intercom outside the office. Very quickly done, without physical interaction; the key already in the room door. Single story older motel with plenty of parking by your room. I was amazed when I opened that room door. The room smelled fresh & I was standing on new soft carpeting. All the furniture, drapes, bed, dresser, table, full-size refrigerator, wall heating unit, toilet & sink are new. Includes a microwave & bedside table with lamp. Extremely clean, with new bed linen & bathroom towels. The shower/tub is still older tile & fixtures, but adequate with HOT water. No in-room coffee machine or morning breakfast offered. There is boxes of plastic silverware & paper plates in the countertop drawer next to the frig. I think the bed was a queen with a new mattress. The bed frame has underneath drawers on both sides. 2 people could stay here comfortably. They offer weekly/monthly rates & most of the other parked vehicles were work trucks. Very quiet night. Several restaurant options, but I was tired & picked up dinner at a local nicely stocked grocery. All in all, if my travel arrangements allow, I would stay here on a regular basis along I-80. It was a pleasure to write...
Read moreBooked the rooms for the hotel for my mom’s class reunion. The rooms have been updated and are clean. Very small. BUT. It was around 90 degrees in Kimball. The air conditioning is a window unit, when we walked in the room with the owner she said it will cool down the room was cold earlier. She turned the AC on. It was 7:30pm. We left to have dinner came back a hour later, the room was even hotter. We then went to the store and bought fans. That did not help. We cancelled our stay because the rooms are just too hot for anyone to stay in and we moved to the days inn 🏨 that have air con that cools the entire room. We paid for the one night and canceled the other 3 days. The owner was rude and said she did not understand why we would not stay and the room would eventually cool off. Zero chance that would happen. Tiny ac unit pushing out minimal air. The owner then argued with my 80 year old mother and hung up on her. They will now not answer when we call and proceeded to charge for all 4 days. Unprofessional thief’s at best. We will be disputing the charges and will word of mouth spread the word. Not how you run a business. Shame on you. Taking advantage of a elder person and thinking that extreme heat in the room is acceptable for anyone and just being unresponsive, true colors. Don’t. Stay. Here. Run. They won’t make things right....
Read moreWe were in the area for work and looking for a nice motel to call home for a week or two that wouldn’t break the bank. We were fortunate to have learned about Motel Kimball. ||It is an All American, owner operated motel that has been recently renovated. The room was spacious, clean, and quiet, the beds were new and comfortable, and there was plenty of hot water for our showers. The big screen tv was reminiscent of home, and the large refrigerator provided us with all the space we needed for our groceries. Mary sue, the proprietor, was around every day checking to make sure everything was okay. She even offered us laundry services. ||There is a Dollar Store and a large grocery store just a stones throw away that provided us with everything we needed in that regard, saving us a trip to the city. We purchased some steaks at the grocery store one evening and made use of the gas barbecue Mary Sue provided. ||If you’re in the area be sure to take the 40 minute drive to Scott’s Bluff and visit the National Monument and Museum. We did and the views are amazing....
