This is one of the best campgrounds I have ever stayed in (and I have camped throughout the US, Australia, and New Zealand). I booked my weekday campsite after dark, so I called rather than just booking online. The owner, Tom Pace, told me he could sell me a bunch of good dry wood for $10 and gave me directions to the nearest ATM/store and the campground (wood required cash payment, online site reservation did not). All were easy to find, even in the dark. Tom and his 11YO daughter came down shortly after I arrived, and he set up and lit my campfire for me (!). We talked a bit and then they left me to take in the fire-lit night. I could see the shadow of Pilot Mountain across the field in front of my campsite, but I was unprepared for the majestic view that met me in the morning. It was foggy as I lit my fire, and I sat on the same bench as the night before (the one beside my fire pit) and watched the fog turn into clouds and then disappear completely, revealing the best foothill view of Pilot Mt I’d seen (I have been there twice). Even the bench I sat on was a reflection of love and spiritual well being - “May All Who Sit Here Be Filled with Love” was carved by hand (probably by pocket knife) into the back of the bench. My eyes welled with tears. I needed this hug from the Universe. The couple beside me (campsites are very well spaced, with ample attention to privacy) gave me a cup of coffee and a packet of pop tarts, so I remained in the campground until nearly 2 o’clock, walking to the nearby pond and across the meadow, wishing I could be on my horse. When I returned to my campsite, I reserved it for another night, which was easy to do because I had better cellphone reception at the campground than I do in my own house. I went to the Pilot Mt visitor’s center (a 10 minute drive), then walked the relatively flat 2.5-mile Bean Shoals Access Trail along the creek - the trees were glowing with autumn colors. It was easy to get lunch and ice and groceries and dinner - everything was within a ten-minute drive, and any food I ordered was well prepared, well presented, and tasty. I am returning with my sons soon, because they can do virtual schooling at the campground using our phones as hotspots. I want them to experience the regenerating magic I was privileged to experience at Jomeokee Campground. I cannot say enough about this place. (P.S. The campground provides potable running water, electricity, and hot showers, and the bathrooms are large...
Read moreGorgeous campground right off the interstate and close to awesome hiking at Pilot Mountain and Hanging Rock State Parks! Beautiful views with plenty of space in between RV lots. We stayed here for a few nights and really enjoyed the location and the scenery, but personally would not stay here again. Let me preface this by saying we LOVE animals and have 2 dogs ourselves who are our whole heart - there are 3 dogs that free roam the property and they are sweet as can be. However, multiple times during our stay they crowded our campsite and made it difficult to get our own dogs in and out of the RV or in and out of the car. It’s the same concept as when you take a dog to a dog park; you’re not supposed to have the other dogs crowd the gate so that the oncoming dogs can enter comfortably. When we went to drive somewhere, the dogs would crowd the car and not move out of the way, and when we went to leave the campground with our RV, 2 of the dogs kept getting underneath our RV and wouldn’t move. It’s very unsafe for the owners dogs and it was concerning having to constantly check for them and try to make them go away from the vehicles. On our first night we couldn’t even get our dogs out of the car and into the RV because the owners dogs wouldn’t get away from the car or RV doors. We also had to wait several moments to back our motorhome into our spot because the dogs wouldn’t move. We messaged the owner and asked if they could please be called away while we were getting set up, and the owner approached our RV with aggression and no understanding of our reasonable request, giving the impression that he’s previously had complaints and doesn’t know how to navigate it. Just some things to keep in mind. Anyway, beautiful campground, just keep a vigilant eye out...
Read moreIncredibly AMAZING place to camp!!! Stayed here several times, and it's the absolute "best of the best" if you want breathtaking views of Pilot Mountain, peaceful/safe surroundings, tourist conveniences, and a hot (most importantly CLEAN) shower and bathhouse! The location is great for everything. Love being secluded away in a private place...while also being only minutes away from Walmart, restaurants, gas stations, etc. Pilot Mountain and Hanging Rock are just a short drive away, awesome fishing and hiking!
To be noted...this is a family-friendly place, where quiet hours are expected and enforced (as they should be at any respectable campground!) So if you're looking for a rowdy, loud music party spot into early morning hours, go look somewhere else...this ain't it. However, if you're responsible, mature, and RESPECTFUL of your neighbors, then by all means...enjoy the peace/quiet, beautiful surroundings, and perhaps a cold beverage or two by your cozy campfire.
The owner is Mr. Pace, and he's SUPER cool! Always available to help with any questions, and can offer extremely helpful local advice/insight to help make the most of our short vacays!
Absolutely adore this campground! Will never stay anywhere else when visiting this area...well worth the 3.5 hour drive for us! For my family (that vibes on camping at every opportunity), if we enjoy our stay so much that it feels like we've left a piece of our hearts behind...then the only solution is to PLAN...
