Overall, this place is just ok, but not a place we would ever go back to. We stayed there once for our anniversary in their most expensive room called the Castle Room. Here were our observations and experiences: 1) spacious, 2) very dark with poor lighting; 5 out of 10 ceiling track lights were burned out; only 1 out of 2 bulbs in each of the two dresser lamps was working; only one very dim little light in the sauna is working; electric candle lights on walls are very dim; 3) very drafty and chilly; no effective weather stripping beneath or between one of the two double doors, strong cold draft constantly flowed into room, making floor and feet cold even with shoes on, which chilled me; the caulking at bottom of fireplace hearth needs to be redone, since huge gaps allow cold air to blow into room; 4) rugs have probably never been dry cleaned, except for vacuuming, quite filthy, 5) substantial unrepaired water damage on ceiling directly above bed; 6) large, empty hornets' nest on storm window next to bed; 7) storm window next to bed and other parts are in disrepair, off track, probably have never been touched in many yrs; 8) shower drips cold water on you when not in use, while in jacuzzi; had to put a shower cap over it; 9) water spout on tub is wobbling and loose; 10) window blind on one door is too short, doesn't cover entire door window, and is color mismatched to other window blinds on that door & other door; 11) roaring thunder of truck traffic on 52 (only 100 yds away through woods) is heard loudly in room, esp at night; 12) squirrel jumping from tree onto tin room & running on it during middle of night was very loud, disturbed sleep on both nights; the first time it happened, we thought an animal had gotten into our room, got the adrenaline going, caused insomnia; tried calling office at 10:00 AM in morning to report animal issue, no answer, no mssg left; when manager was later notified, no offer made to comp us for the issue; 13) no 3-prong grounded outlets except for bathroom and 2 in room (1 behind TV), left no good place to plug a laptop; 14) impression is that room seems to be left generally in a state of disrepair as noted above in examples. 15) manager generally friendly though and available mainly via text message like an Air BnB; 16) small fridge behind bed makes noise all night long; 17) breakfast was mediocre in terms of the offerings, but Cathy the server/chef was so kind and hospitable that she was the highlight; she also brought us extra towels to rm when we called her & asked, & she showed genuine interest in taking care of our needs. Summary: As I said, overall ok, & we had a good, memorable time, but would not recommend Inn, & have no plans to return. I would not return due to all the issues, esp the ones that kept me...
Read moreGreat hot breakfast! Lots of options.
Beautiful place with a lake and view of the Pilot Mountain Knob. The room was dated but roomy. Some light bulbs were burned out. Room was oddly lit making it either too bright it too dim.
The hot tub, which was our main reason for booking this place, was chlorinated so much that it was unusable. We tried it, but it caused us to cough a lot and leave a rash on skin. Could see a thick ring of chlorine on the hot tub, but was told that had been there for "20 years". If that's true, then proper cleaning is not happening in the tub and is concerning.
The lake was nice but there was nowhere to sit unless you wanted to sit on the ground. No place for chairs as it's on a hill. Paddle boats were advertised on the website but there were no paddle boats. They had a couple of small boats and oars, but no oar holders, so that would have been difficult.
No kitchen to cook dinner and mini fridge was too small to store much food. Be prepared to dine out for lunch and dinner.
Operators were nice, treated you like a good friend.
Bathroom ceiling had brown marks on it, and some dirty grout in tiles. Needs some cleaning.
Road noise was a concern. It's very close to highway 52 and you can feel and hear trucks rolling by constantly. This was a problem indeed.
If you're looking for a place to stay where you won't be there much while you hike the mountain and tour the area, this is acceptable. However if you need a quiet place to stay mainly on property with things to see or do, this isn't it.
Don't count on the hot tub, it was a major disappointment. We were given a small discount, but not enough to make us risk the same...
Read moreDo not stay in the Penthouse suite if you want to use the hottub. Hottub was unusable . When we turned on the jets- all we got were lots of brown suds with an odd odor. Jennifer and Kathy seem to know about it... but it was not a big deal. Obviously they are use to the complaint. Our view out the large windows was a pool that had not been cared for in a long time. Was full of frogs and leaves. Our breakfast was lacking freshness. We had to split a hash brown the first breakfast. There were NO hash browns the 2nd morning. Bacon was diffentitly precooked some time ago. The bed is terrible. We sank to the middle... very uncomfortable. Slepted on the couch. The sauna is full of spiders. Unusable! Room needs a full cleaning. The creamer provided expired 10/22. Yuck! Most of all... if your going for rest, you want get any. The Hwy is too noisy. You can feel the vibrations... it's so close. But again- they were use to the complaints. We were told (bluntly) that "we didnt have to stay if we were not happy". Needless to say the online pictures and reviews are not current! I didn't see or feel any luxury! Pilot Knob Inn didn't meet our expectations at all. Very disappointing place to celebrate your 60th birthday... so we...
