Wow, where do I start. Let's start with the positive! The food was delicious and reasonably priced. A very good drink/beer selection again reasonably priced. Almost all of the staff were pleasant, especially Stacy. The lake and surroundings were beautiful as nature almost always is! Now onto the stay. Please understand I have given the owners/managers a week after checkout to contact me about my stay and have heard nothing at all.
Check in was easy, Hope was very pleasant and went over everything. My brother and I stayed in Cabin 19 a wheelchair accessible cabin for 4 nights, 5/1 - 5/5. The ramp is good, a little steep for some but not a problem to push the chair up it. When we opened the door we were greeted with the aroma of death and urine. It is a cabin in the woods so a mouse or other small rodent probably had died and caused the death smell so that wasn't a concern. The urine smell was a concern. I found that the comforter on the trundle bed in the living room area had a very large (16" diameter at least) urine spot on it. The sheets were clean but the mattress pad underneath had a matching urine mark. Meaning that the sheets were changed but the rest was ignored. It was disgusting! Hope at the front desk called maintenance and the sheets and comforter were changed. I helped and even asked for the mattress to be flipped. No mattress protector was provided. The thought of laying on pee kept me up most of the night until I was too tired to stay awake.
Here are some of the other issues:
Washcloth, trash and cigarette butts by the stairs on ground. Told housekeeping person and she said she'd get the Washcloth but the rest is a maintenance job. Topictures. See picture.
Missing knives, 4 open slots on knife block. Informed Stacy. See picture.
Cracked switch plate in bathroom. Informed Stacey. See picture.
Still smells like something died. Informed Stacy. I bought air freshener.
Long black hairs on sheets in bedroom. See picture.
Horrible pillows!!!! 2 were good, 2 were sad excuses for pillows.
Bathroom faucet leaks at handle base.
Heater makes loud noises waking us up nightly. Have video.
Heater started smelling like something was burning. Called after hour maintenance, he brought space heaters.
Maintenance unformed us heater no longer works, abandoned in place, no spare parts to fix it. Must continue to use space heaters.
Neighbors in 18 had dogs that were off leash and kids kept running on ramp for the cabin I'm in. Cabin 18 is a no pets cabin. Have video. Spike with Carol and Stacy. So if you are expecting a pet dander free room, jokes on you!!!
Spent $18 on 3 pints, gave the bartender $25 and said change please. Bartender said thank you and kept the change. I gave up with this place! Nearly 40% tip for slow service and last beer when the beer was stirred and foam was scooped out.
Asked to speak with manager was told the owners would reach out. That was day 2 of a 4 night stay. Apparently, they have a weekly meeting on Thursdays and hoped to hear from them by then. Well now a week later, crickets..... Very disappointed with my stay, especially the room. Here you do not get what you pay for you get much worse. You've...
Read moreWe love Lake of the Woods. It has been the favorite place for our family to go in the summer. However, I/we are becoming increasingly frustrated, disappointed and this last trip...dismayed. First of all, we love RVing at the resort. However RV's are essentially are being squeezed out to make room for more and more cabins. We don't want to stay in a cabin, we like our rv. There are spaces to stay in, but there is a principle involved here for us. We have been going to the resort for 15 years when 33$ was the nightly fee. It has been slowly going up as all things have, but it is now 60$ a night. Not out the ballpark except there has not been one single improvement made to justify the increased fee. They did gravel some roads, but the sights are still a bit dirty and as in many of them crammed together and uneven. I feel the RV'ers are helping to fund the cabins. This last trip, we stayed at Aspen because we had a lot of family that tent camped. There were two bathrooms for the campground. A third was not operational so they added portable toilets. The last thing and this was the source of the total aggravation. Many of our party went home providing us a wonderful, first opportunity to go to the resort restaurant to enjoy dinner and a cocktail. I called the restaurant to make sure it would be open and we could get a table in 30 minutes. I was told that would work. About 30 minutes later, we are there to be told we would be waiting for 40 minutes! We go to the bar and order cocktails. My sister wanted a mule-out of ginger beer...no ginger beer. Ordered a Mountain Margarita only to be told, after mixing, serving, and tasting the drink...out of amaretto! Triple sec was the substitute and it didn't work well. In hindsight, should have left the drink on the bar and walked out. So, we went to the marina and ordered pizza. I have to say the pizzas are delicious! I wanted a cranberry pecan salad- out of pecans. We ordered a garden salad and we were going to split it 4 ways. We were given 3 metal forks for FOUR of us because there were no more plastic forks and they only had 3 metal forks. So unbelievably frustrating! Not just one missing thing but four, and with the drinks, should have been told before ordering! How hard is it to stock pile booze? Or to send someone to replenish as you notice what is left won't be enough to make it through the day? Lake of the Woods is not the quaint beautiful place it used to be. I know things to change and grow, but so many people now and be prepared for that. This last trip may be the last summer one...
Read moreCame up there for a three day retreat with a big adult group, we head rented many cabins almost a year in advance. We had one of the newer cabins, a one bedroom queen with two queen beds up in the loft. Beautiful cabin fully accommodated. Except for food bring your own😊 Check in was easy and smooth our reservations were made almost a year in advance. We were constantly reminded don't take anything from the cabin 🤔 we got it the first time we're just here for some R&R we're not thieves, They have a store where you can buy fishing accessories, chip, soda, beer, even a hot slice of pizza which isn't bad. You can also rent kayaks and pontoon boats, however, one very very short haired young lady working in the marina store and another lady waitress working in the restaurant, both seemed to have nasty attitudes and that was the consensus through out our group. I don't know how but we encountered a bat in our cabin up in the loft during midday, we flagged down a worker he came with a piece of cordboard and a bucket, made a suggestion to use a fishing net so he returned with two fishing nets. This resort not only has cabins for rent, there are hookups for campers and trailers and also a place for tents, highly recommend making advance reservations for cabins. They go fast, the prices are a little high even at the end of the season. We had 4 people to a cabin splitting it, so it wasn't too bad. There is so much to do here at lake of the woods. We explored the many hiking trails, most of us brought our own kayaks. You can rent kayaks, or pontoon boats or bring your own boats. There's great fishing. We got to see trout being delivered into the lake. They even have a nice restaurant with amazing views of the lake. We didn't have the best service, even with a dinner reservation for seventeen, we had to wait over 2 hours after ordering our food to get our meals and no, the restaurant was not busy. You are allowed campfires in the designated places at your cabin. Highly suggest bring your own firewood as a bundle of wood is $8. There is nothing like having a beautiful potluck dinner with friends and watching the sunset on the lake, roasting marshmallows over an open fire. Overall, this is a beautiful resort to visit, even if it's just for a day trip, we'll be back again next year doing our fifth...
