The location of the property is slightly off of the main highway and a few miles from the city and essential stores and gas stations. There are Culver's, Subway and a Dairy Queen within 5 miles from the property. There is also a full size grocery store as well.||||This Property is essentially a set of small cabins set well apart from one other to offer privacy and seclusion to those who seek it. They are not as far apart to make it seem lonely. ||||The property is owned by an old couple Bob and Cheryl who have their single family house on the property. We mostly interacted with Bob who was hospitable and made us feel welcome. He gave us a little tour of the place and showed helpful amenities. There's free WiFi on the property along with a common firepit shared by all the families who rent there. ||||We'd originally rented a cabin with 1 bedroom. However due to a cancelled reservation, owner upgraded us for free to a 2 bedroom cabin.||||The cabin itself was showing it's age. However you can not deny that it was well maintained and the owner clearly cared for the property. The interior, as you can see is fairly quaint. There are 2 bedrooms separated by the one common bathroom. All 3 are accessible from the living/dining area. There is a outdoor deck with furnishing for outdoor dinner. The island on the lake superior is clearly visible from the front of the cabin, which is the reason for the name. ||||The rooms were nicely and adequately furnished, particularly the kitchen where silverware, crockery and appliances were newer and immaculately cleaned. The bathroom was a bit tight but not unreasonably impossible for one person at a time. Overall the cabin was well lit and welcoming. ||||One downside of the age of the property was that, there is no Air Conditioner or ceiling fans. There is a fireplace in the corner that is controlled by a modern thermostat on the wall. The evenings and nights in early May were pretty cool and we rarely missed having Air Conditioner. However for those who are sensitive to heat and humidity, this is a point worth noting. The TV had an Over the air Antenna and built in DVD player. There are quite a few DVDs at the office for you to choose from. There are also a few board games in the cabin for those inclined to spend time that way. The local marina is within a short distance away as well as the beach. ||||Each cabin was accessible via a gravel track off of the main concrete road that ran through the property. So your vehicle could be parked in front of the cabin. ||||We were there for 3 days and 2 nights. We...

After camping near Jay Cooke, we had a few days to ourselves and decided to book three nights at Island View. Cabin 2 was just perfect for my husband and me (we booked a cabin with an extra bed in case our friend could make it, but it ended up being just the two of us). From the adorable kitchenette, complete with vintage dishes, to the lovely Lake Superior views, it's a perfect place to throw open the windows and enjoy an old-fashioned Minnesota summer.
Included with the cabin were kitchen & bath towels & linens, pots/pans, all the dishes and utensils we needed, a drip coffee pot, toaster, microwave, gas stove, full-size refrigerator, sink and dish rack, teapot, and an outdoor charcoal grill. There was also a tv/DVD player, with movies to borrow from the office, for rainy days.
Just a quick stroll to a lovely beach where you can hunt for rocks or watch the seagulls, a cute candy shop, and 47° Art Gallery & Gift Shop. We walked a bit further for some excellent cheese and local smoked fish at Russ Kendall's Smoke House. It's a fifteen minute drive to Castle Danger Brewery, and I would highly recommend nearby Lester Park Trails for a gorgeous hike.
The weather was beautiful for most of our trip, so we really enjoyed that our cabin had a front deck with table and chairs, however there are also picnic tables available for those cabins without a full deck. We had a lovely stay, really appreciated the friendly faces, and hope to make...
