Someone recommended to me that I need to go to the Great Lakes Candy Company and I, being in need of an adventure and a load of sugar, jumped into my car and flew there from Superior. Their website said they close at 6, and I arrived at 5:55, thankful to see that the doors were open until 7! I went in and was amazed at how many cool things they fit into such a small space.
I spent about $20 on various chocolates, truffles, taffies, etc. They were okay, better than Rocky Mountain though not as good as other small candy store candies that I have had. We left the store around 6:15 and my friend and I decided to go for a walk and eat our candy. When we came back, there was a note on my car that said "Please don't park here, we need this area for customers, Thanks". Okay, I understand the need for parking in a small lot, and I feel badly that I did not think to move my car for the remaining 45 minutes that they were open, but in my defense I was way at the end off to the side. BUT THEN, one of the owners marched up to my car and exclaimed to me "What makes you think you can park here all afternoon?!" As politely of a response as I could possibly muster in my taken aback state, I replied "I apologize, I parked here to come buy chocolate at 6, and we just walked a little bit after...." She rudely cut me off and said "But this car has been here ALL DAY", and no, I replied, I got there at 6. She did not believe me and continued to extremely extremely rude, despite the fact that I was a paying, first time customer.
With the exception of that woman who was not in the front of the store at the time of my purchase, the service was pretty good inside. The quality of the candy was good, but I will not be back as I know other small businesses that understand the value of...
Read moreA BAG FULL OF ANTS😬😬😬 We have been stopping here every summer since they opened- we stopped in on August 27th and bought $50 worth of candy- we drove straight home to our house- sat our bag of candy on our table overnight. We took the candy to our son and his fiancés place the next day as a gift. My son opened the bag which had little tiny sugar ants crawling all over- how embarrassing to give somebody a bag of candy full of ants! Every business wants to know about their products but when you call them - they get defensive! I called and talked to Andy - and he was very defensive and said that the ants came from our place not his and right away said he didn’t think it was due a refund- I hadn’t even asked for a refund at this point! I was just making them aware of what happened! The bag was completely closed and we have never had an ant problem at our house- which was very rude of him to accuse us of! They were tiny sugar ants and were mainly lingering around our fudge! So you might want to check your candy(mainly fudge) if you continue to stop here! We will not be stopping here again - not because of the ant problem but because of the unprofessional way I was talked to by the owner! VERY...
Read moreHappy 4 those who feel they are a 5 star. They have to be very tourist based and I understand. We spent $65 here 3 weeks ago and I'm disappointed. Got 2 samplers. 2 pretzel packs, drinks, and another bundle for the kids. Jmo, they tasted like I was eating the cheap boxed chocolate you get gifted from a relative who received the same gift and did not want them either because they're not that great. I need chocolate once a month and I'm struggling to enjoy them. Even "fresh" they weren't that good. I could have gotten a years supply of my favorite chocolate and probably a couple half gallons of Schwan's ice cream and be satisfied, and gotten my money's worth. I can't recommend, but I don't have the tastes I used to. Maybe if I was who I once was, I probably would have liked them, but I'm too "alienated" from the pleasures of the world anymore. What most people of society deem great, I don't fit...
