We had our wedding at Larsmont in January 2020. There were some fabulous things about the venue and some things that left something to be desired. All in all, I highly recommend this place as a vacation stop, but not as a wedding venue (unless they improve their food... the restaurant food is fabulous, just not the wedding food).
First, for the good. The resort is FABULOUS. Our guests loved the venue. It was beautiful. The set up was gorgeous. Multiple guests said this was the most fun wedding they've ever attended, in part because of the venue. Also, Larsmont was kind of a one-stop shop wedding venue which was really great. I didn't have to do a ton of outside planning, organizing, etc. Larsmont was able to take care of nearly everything from the venue, the food, the alcohol, lodging, set-up and take down, and the groom's dinner. They also had great recommendations for local hair/make-up (Salon 507) and flowers (Saffron & Grey). Our two outside vendors were amazing. The staff worked hard to make our day a success. They were very kind and professional.
Unfortunately, there were a few things that need to be improved upon. Our wedding food was AWFUL. It was nothing like the tasting. We were so disappointed in the food. Our entrees were cold, overcooked, dry and expensive! At least 2 of our guests didn't even eat their meals because they were so bad. For this reason alone, I recommend finding an entirely different wedding venue. If Larsmont is able to improve their food I would definitely recommend Larsmont for a wedding. This is unquestionably the worst food I've ever had at any wedding I've ever attended. I was so crushed. My sibling was married at their sister resort last summer and the food was fabulous. I don't know what happened.
Next, our bar tab was totally screwed up at the end of the event. We were hosting beer and wine only, but the bar served everyone whatever they wanted causing us to reach our bar limit at 7 pm. The Larsmont Staff worked really hard to fix this after the fact, but this isn't something I wanted to wake up to deal with the morning after my wedding. Additionally, it didn't get completely resolved for more than a month after our wedding date. I have to say, even though this situation wasn't ideal, the staff was super nice about it and did what they could to correct it. This speaks volumes about the service they aspire to.
There was a minimum 2 night stay at the resort despite a mid-January wedding. This was extremely frustrating to many of our guests. I certainly understand this requirement mid-summer, but mid-winter it seemed to be unnecessary.
Lastly, there were a couple small things here and there where the wedding coordinator made things more complicated than need be. Our wedding coordinator was very kind and professional with all communication, but seemed to struggle with independent problem solving. More specifically, our wedding coordinator would reach out to me to solve their internal problems which I am incapable of solving as they were their issues. Ultimately, I reached out to the manager who got involved and straightened out all these small kinks.
If Larsmont is able to improve their wedding food, I highly recommend this as a wedding venue. If not, you will definitely need to find a...
Read moreWe stayed here twice. One time just as a couple and the other time we came with a toddler for sauna days. The first time impression was much better than the second one. The room was nice and clean with a fireplace and jacuzzi. The location is spectacular. Right on the shore of lake Superior. Very beautiful views. Their wood sauna is great and available 24 hours. Also, pool and a hot tub is very good addition. The prices for the food offered at their restaurant were too high, and the food was mediocre to our taste. The second time, we came here for Sauna days. When they announced that they are going to have sauna days on their website and started selling the rooms for this event, I called and asked about what is included in the pass, the person who picked the phone had no clue and there was no information on their website. They were selling something without providing any information as to what they were selling exactly. Some weeks later the information was posted on their website. We did not stay at the property the second time but got a one day pass for sauna days which is $100 per person. The pass included the breakfast and dinner buffet. Definitely, they oversold this event without the adequate space or staff. There was not enough place for people to sit and the most upsetting there was not enough food even though it is not the first time they are holding this event. The buffet was empty most of the time and the staff was not rushing to fill it, the same was for the drinks. The situation with the breakfast was a bit better than with the dinner or maybe we were just lucky to be the first in line to get it. For the dinner there was a big line of people. We waited 1 hour and half just to come to the empty buffet table. They tried to figure out how to feed the people who did not get the food as it was obvious that they did not have the food ready to restock the buffet. We waited for another 30 minutes. Finally, given that we were with a one year old child, they gave us the honest answer that it will take a while and offered us a free dinner at their restaurant but at this point we could not wait any longer and we left to get some ready to eat items from the grocery store. If you advertise this event with food and the price reflects the same, then there should be enough food provided for everybody as this is what we paid for. Otherwise, the price should be different. After this incident we are not going...
Read moreWhat a great experience celebrating our 35th Anniversary in a room with a small deck overlooking our fire pit and Lake Superior literally 20 feet away. We were lulled to sleep each night listening to Lake Superior waves crash on the shore. Great activity options for riding bikes (helmets provided) or kayaking. Good access to trails at the many nearby state parks and the Superior Hiking Trail. They'll even come and light your fire pit for you if you call, but where's the fun in that! It was nice that they refilled the firewood bins regularly or if you run out just give him a call and they come right down with more wood. If course in late September we had some rain and massive waves that washed up huge Driftwood on shore but that was all part of an excellent experience with plenty of mixed sunshine and cool days for hiking trails and roasting treats over the open fire. One suggestion is for units without full kitchen is to provide outdoor charcoal grills for general use. Maybe even one of those fire grates that swivels over the fire pit so you can grill out some fresh Zup's Smoked Polish or fresh Bratwurst :-) Oh, the staff was very friendly and you could tell genuinely like their jobs. I've traveled to many hotels on average every other week for 22 years, and trust me, you can tell when staff doesn't like their job. Of course this is a vacation destination so pretty much everyone we met was happy. Walking along the Lakeside path I have to say it was sad to glance at so many people with their backs turned to the bank of picture windows watching television rather than doing anything...
