My husband and I stayed here 2 years ago in Cabin 1. We had the best time just relaxing. After traveling for almost 8 years and staying hundreds of places in 42 different states we decided to do something we've never done-return to a place we stayed before! That place was here, Stonegate on Superior. This time we booked cabin 4.||The good-the structure of the cabin is really neat. It is an A-frame Log Cabin with a loft for the bed and dresser. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes and utensils. There is a small fridge and electric stove plus things like toaster, coffee pot, Etc. Large windows to view the lake (although trees block half the view). The bathroom is a decent size but it only has a shower, no tub. You have to bring your own toiletries for the bathroom. They provide towels and tp. There is a large fireplace that is the heat source for the cabin. The bathroom also has a 60 minute timer that turns on a small heat register in that room. Because heat rises the lower level was always much colder than the top level. There's a small fan upstairs and a ceiling fan above the living room area. The area where these cabins are located is very quiet and the owners discourage any noise after 9 p.m. even conversation! Sounds kind of strict but it is just fine for us because we like quiet! You have to clean the cabin when you leave as far as taking out the garbage you accumulated and doing the dishes. Pretty simple!||The bad-unfortunately this stay was not good for us and made us quite sad. Upon entering the cabin there was the most atrocious smell. It was either a dead animal under the cabin or propane. The owner said it also might be a sewer smell when he came to check it on day 2. Either way no matter what it was we were never asked if we wanted to move to another cabin even though most of them were empty while we were there. Upon leaving when we called to check out and told them that the smell had never left we were not even given an apology! When we were driving up to go to this cabin for our second stay we thought it would be fun to come here every couple years and stay in a different cabin but because they couldn't even bother to say they were sorry much less give us a refund for an awful stay, we will never be back or recommend this place. I felt sick the entire time and it was not relaxing at all. Every time we left or when we would take a shower and come out of the bathroom we would be hit in the face with that horrible scent. If they checked the cabin right before we checked in there is no way they did not know that smell was there. We understand that things can happen. But when the owners can't even offer an apology or any sort of solution and are just happy to let you stay in a cabin you paid $600 for knowing that it smells so bad, it is not acceptable! We also only had hot water for dishes half the time as well and every time we took a shower the hot water ran out immediately. Really bummed as our last stay was 5 stars. Couldn't afford to lose $600 so that's why we didn't leave (they don't do refunds if you cancel 30 days or less in advance). 2 years ago we left happy, relaxed and content. This year we left stressed, unhappy and I had...
Read moreMy husband and I just spent 3 nights here. We have stayed at a few different places on the North Shore, and this is our new favorite. When we booked the cabin last month, we had intended to do some hiking at the nearby waterfalls, but the weather was too cold when we arrived, so for three nights we just sat in the cabin! We cooked, did some reading and writing, and watched the waves! Resort was super quiet, we didn't even see anyone else altho we know others were there since lights were on in other cabins. The cabin itself was beautiful, fully stocked with everything we needed (we brought plenty of food)! The warmth of the fireplace was cozy and the bed was comfortable. Plenty of hot water. The views were spectacular-we woke up no later than 6:30 a.m. each morning to view the sunrise. This place was a dream and we can't wait to come back in a warm month where we can spend more time outside! No TV which was actually a bonus. The only slight negative was that if the fridge and fan for the fireplace were running at the same time you couldn't hear the waves. Another reason to return in the summer when we can have all the windows open! The cabins here are housekeeping cabins so you take your own trash out, do your own dishes, and leave the cabin as you found it on check in, when you leave. Owner was really friendly and kind. Parking is easy and doesn't obstruct any views. Easy to find on Scenic 61, and close to town if you...
Read moreThis was our first stay at Stonegate and we loved it! Perfectly quiet cabin but short driving distance to Duluth and Two Harbors. The kitchen had everything you'd need for cooking meals. Only a few things we'd note: The website needs an update - our cabin had far more amenities than were listed and it's much more updated. Was a very nice surprise but we bought a couple things (that we can return) that we thought we'd need. Cabin 6 is attached to another cabin. It doesn't show that on the website. We would have chosen another cabin had we known BUT - our neighbors were respectful, quiet, and we could only hear minimal sounds. There is no confirmation email after you book. I called to confirm but being very type A (😆), I appreciate being able to refer back to a confirmation email so that might be a good thing to add!
Regardless, we will absolutely be back and using this resort. I only list those things for anyone booking, so they know what to bring and which cabin to book :)
We look forward to bringing our daughter next year and making this an annual...
