After booking our cabin, the communication began immediately. As we drove to Nisswa, I received a text from Halley instructing us to text her back with our approximate arrival time, and to proceed directly to our cabin and let ourselves in. This was an unexpected and appreciated personal touch.
We arrived shortly after check-in time and were so pleasantly greeted with a very well-maintained resort. Cabins of various sizes sprawled along the lake shore. We arrived at cabin three and paused for a stretch and view of the lake. We were awed by a beautiful view of Mount Ski Gull across the lake. Eagerly, we ventured into the cabin and were pleasantly greeted by soft music wafting through the cabin and table lamps lit welcoming us home, which is exactly what it felt like.
The furnishing were modern but rustic chic. The beds were crisply made and each had a towel origami animal on it. Ours was a loon. We were so surprised by how well-furnished the cabin was that we could not help but snoop through the cupboards to find modern (read new) dishes, silverware, and drink ware.
A leather couch and two leathers chairs were poised near the gas fireplace and a large picture window faced the lake. A spacious screened porch faced the lake adjacent to an open deck to enjoy the view from during any weather conditions.
Soon after we arrived, Don came through to launch a boat for the guests in Cabin 1. When done he stopped by to introduce himself and visited for a short while.
The lake is small and does not see alot of boat traffic, which adds to the stress-free experience. The Wi-Fi is incredible and phone signal is excellent in case you do need to check in at the office during your stay.
I do not travel well and usually find it difficult to sleep the first night in a different bed in a different room, but that night I laid down on a mattress that felt like a cloud and got one of the best nights sleep I have had in a long time. I was so comfortable both physically and mentally.
Throughout our stay Halley stayed in contact via text to ensure all our needs were met. Done stopped by a few times to take care of some of his duties and always had time for conversation. Halley stopped by on Sunday, and visited a good while with us, with Don stopping by once again to join the conversation. We invited them back later in the evening to join us for a cocktail and more conversation, which to our delight, they graciously accepted.
We spent a very nice evening with them and enjoyed great conversation. Not only were they wonderful hosts, Don and Halley have become friends. Genuinely good people with down home American values founded in faith, and they know how to run a resort.
Every aspect of our stay was done so perfectly. My wife and I agree that this was the most relaxing weekend away from home we have ever had, in the nicest place we have ever stayed. We cannot wait to return, and are already making plans for a family stay at Agate Lake Resort.

Read moreMy family recently stayed at the Agate Lake Resort and had a wonderful time. We rented cabin 4 which was new and comfortably slept 7 of us (my family of 5 including an infant, 2 year old and 4 year old, and my parents). The cabin was nicely outfitted with all of the items we needed to prepare meals.||||While the cabin was nice, the resort itself is the true star. There is a nice, sandy, shallow beach perfect for young kids. They also have a play structure and a large sandbox. The lake is a nice, manageable size and the resort provided access to all non-motorized boats and water toys at no charge. In addition, the resorts owners were extremely friendly and had a few fun activities planned for the kids like a medallion hunt. Finally, the resorts proximity to Nisswa also gave us great options for dining and shopping.||||My kids loved every minute of the vacation and rarely came in the cabin the entire week we were there. We will definitely...
Read moreAgate Lake Resort reminds me of the way it use to be in the good old days. There's a quiet pleasure about the place that's almost hard to describe. It's close to the frenzy that is Gull Lake, but seems light years away.
The Garry's are kind and caring people who treat you like family and keep the place spotless.
It's laid back on a beautiful clear lake with good fishing and a nice sandy beach. They are open year around since there's other seasons to enjoy the Brainerd Lakes area besides summer!
I talked we families that have come here for years and their kids grew up at the resort and now the kids and their families vacation there to experience that old time "throw-back" feeling of a mom...
