My wife and I booked a 5-day trip to the Inn at Sunrise Point for July 4th, our first week off together in over a year. As a former Marine, July 4th is my favorite holiday, and we felt Maine would be the perfect place to celebrate.
Sadly, 10 days before our booking, our 1-year old puppy started suddenly bleeding from a uterus infection, which can be lethal for dogs. We rushed her to the emergency room and were told she would need emergency surgery and would be in recovery for at least two weeks.
From the ER, we emailed the Inn to explain our situation and ask to move our booking by a couple of weeks, or to another slower time when they might have an available room.
Our jaws nearly dropped when the next day, as we were awaiting our puppy getting out of surgery, we received an email from the Inn saying that not only can we not shift our dates, but we would have to pay for our entire stay anyway because we were within their 14 day cancellation policy. We had contacted them 10 days out under these exceptional circumstances.
We spoke with the manager on the phone, assuming there was a misunderstanding. There was not. She coldly told us that this is why they recommend travelers insurance. When we explained that travelers insurance would not cover a situation like this, how much this trip meant to us, and that we could work with them to find a compromise solution, our words hit a wall. We asked to speak with the owner.
We received a call from the owner the next day, who again coldly shut down our request for flexibility. After a long conversation, she reluctantly said that she could see if she could rebook the room, but at that point, we were only a few days away from the booking. We were shocked by the lack of flexibility and lack of empathy towards two potential lifelong guests in a hard situation.
We sent one final email to the team at the Inn, pleading to find a compromise solution like a partial refund or partial rebooking. We received no response.
Now, we’re at home during Fourth of July week with a recovering puppy, paying nearly $4,000 for a hotel stay we could not use due to this medical emergency, on top of our medical bills.
We share our story as a warning to other guests that we were met with a surprising lack of...
Read moreWONDERFUL! My wife and I stayed here 5 nights for our wedding anniversary. The location is perfect; the grounds are incredibly beautiful and well-maintained; the staff are all so warm and gracious. And it's not just sunrises... you get moonrises too!
Room: We stayed in the "May Sarton" room, second floor of the main building. Totally private deck with a full view of the ocean, comfortable bed, plenty of windows, super clean, a gas fireplace, & a large private bathroom.
Breakfast: You can choose to eat in their indoor dining room or outside on the flower bedecked porch. There were always 3 options for breakfast (though I heard others special-order something simple like eggs, and they were readily accommodated). One of the options is always a "Special of the Day", which I recommend. Breakfasts are served with coffee, juice, scones or muffins, fresh fruit, and your main course. You won't need lunch after these amazing breakfasts! (PS. They also put out fresh baked goods every afternoon!)
Main Building has a cozy fireplace library with full bar on one end, and a full-glass solarium on the other, both of which make for great relaxing after a day of hiking.
Grounds: The lawn is well maintained with comfy chairs for relaxing; flowers are everywhere!; there's a stairway down to the stone beach, which is walkable at high or low tide. The rocks are navigable if you're good on your feet -- wear hiking sandals. Otherwise, there's a nice bench halfway down the stairs for those less sure.
Staff: I can't say enough of how wonderful & personable the staff were. From our first check-in & tour, to always making sure we got what we needed, to getting fresh towels & chocolates every day, to helping us map some amazing sightseeing spots for our excursions, I am just so pleased.
We will definitely return, and I...
Read moreWords cannot express how wonderful this place is. MJ, Matt and Mary are exceptional hosts and have thought through so many details to make this place beyond magical! I had extensively researched basically every location in and around Camden for our getaway, and concluded on the Inn at Sunrise Point. We stayed in the May Sarton room and it was perfect. If you're debating on where to stay, don't delay and book here. As we drove around town and saw all the other options, I kept telling my husband, "Wow, so so glad we chose Sunrise Point." It is hands down in the best serene location with, I believe, the best water view of all the available options. If you're looking for a quiet getaway where you'll hear bird sounds and gentle ocean waves right from your room, this is the spot. Also, for those who inspect places and love cleanliness, this was one of the cleanest places I've ever stayed - spotless. Also the bed was one of the most comfortable we've had during all our travels over the years and we are big on quality beds, so that says something! Beautiful sunrises and fresh flowers throughout.
Also huge bonus is the amazing breakfasts. I had found a lot of cute breakfast places to go to, but after our first breakfast at the Inn, we decided to eat there every.single.morning because it was THAT good. The atmosphere mixed with the most delicious cooking made for an unforgettable start to our days.
MJ also offered us so many great places to visit - some that were on my list from googling and others I hadn't read about which were must-see places. All in all, I will remember this trip and am so thankful we went here!
Thank you for such a memorable getaway MJ,...
