We have been coming to the Shawnee at Cabins in the pines for 17 years for a weekend getaway. This year has so far been disappointing. There used to be a personal touch to the stay and easy communicating with Genie by email. There were cookies for us when we got here and even a Christmas tree. Of course times change so those things can be overlooked. There are, however, quite a few little things that have definitely put a damper on enjoying the weekend. The biggest problem is Venture in real estate, the manager, isn’t in until 11 am on Saturday. So the missing items are not available. There are mouse droppings in the silverware drawer. I understand mice are to be expected but no dishcloth, dish towels, or dish soap were left to wash dishes. Previously the silverware was in a closed container on top of the microwave, for good reason. There is no bathmat in the bathroom so it’s hard not to get water everywhere. Then there’s the water. It is so putrid with the smell of sulfur. I understand well water can have that but there are filters to use to lesson the stench, I mean stench. The hot tub will not shut off so you can’t sit in it and enjoy the peace of the woods. By the way, if you’re not too lazy, you can change the open of the refrigerator so it doesn’t open into the peninsula. I know that’s being trivial but with all the other stuff I’m super annoyed. We loved it here for many years, unfortunately I think this may be our last. Honestly I’m very sad about it. We looked forward to it...
Read moreTheir description and pictures on their website represented the cabin nicely, no surprises besides the plate of freshly baked cookies on the table for us when we arrived. Jeanie, the person who called to confirm our reservation was very nice and answered all the questions I had. Great location, not far from any of the trails/caves/falls, maybe 30 minute drive to the furthest park attractions. Cabins were pretty easy to locate. The cabin was clean, although I wish we were informed that there were ant poison traps around the cabin. Our concern was that our child found one, but not necessarily their fault, just would have liked being told they were there. We did not see 1 ant though so that was a plus, they should be expected with the cabin being in the woods. The back porch could use a good pressure washing and sealant, which would really brighten up back porch. One of the windows were cracked when we arrived, but again, not a problem. A TV in the bedroom and loft would have been nice. But other than the minor cosmetic things mentioned above, we will definitely be back. Very nice people and we were not bothered at all. 10-15 minutes away from Walmart and other stores and restaurants. No "housekeeping" came but we weren't really expecting it besides an envelope that was on the table that said "for housekeeping tip." Cabins in the Pines is a great place to stay. I can't wait to be back. We had...
Read moreOut of the several cabin companies I have stayed with in Hocking, this is by far my favorite for so many reasons. Four cabins on secluded land make for a wonderful location close to all the main attractions in the hills. We actually were very close to our favorite stretch of the Buckeye Trail off of Rocky Fork Road. The cabins are beautiful, carefully decorated, and loved. The owners truly care about you and the experience they provide. It feels beyond cozy, especially on a chilly fall night. It's an amazing place for a summer get together with friends, or a romantic getaway for a couple. The cabins have all you need for comfort. You really only need to bring your food and clothing. Everything else is ready to go! The only small inconvenience for some may be the lack of cell service (I have Verizon, but Sprint and others sometimes work a bit stronger). Another thing some may not enjoy is the sulfur smell to the tap and shower water. Not too strong, but if you're not familiar or used to this, I would recommend bringing bottles of water or jugs for drinking. Shower did not have as strong of a smell. Very minor detail overall. The owners always leave a homemade tray of cookies when you arrive, and you can expect a hand written thank you note in the mail shortly after your stay. Not many other places have that touch. Cabins in the Pines is my go-to happy place,...
