Mouse Infestation and Dirty Conditions at The Chalets at Hocking Hills!!! 🤢🐭🤢 I stayed at The Chalets at Hocking Hills recently with a friend who had reserved an A-frame cabin for 3 nights (~$800!). From the moment we arrived, the experience was terrible. Immediately on arrival, we found mouse feces and urine all over the kitchen: counters, cutting board, silverware/silverware tray, and inside the silverware drawer. There were also dead insects all over the floor. I called the office right away to report it, explaining it might be understandable if a mouse got in between guests but unacceptable if it had just been cleaned that morning. They insisted on sending housekeeping, so instead of unpacking, we left to get groceries. When we returned, it appeared housekeeping had only cleaned the silverware and organizer, not even the rest of the drawer. —they left the counters, other drawers, and dried mouse feces on the cutting board untouched. We had to soak and scrub it ourselves. After that, my friend checked the beds: both had hair between the sheets—one with long brown hairs, the other with short black hairs—showing they hadn’t changed the bedding. We had to go to the office again to request fresh bedding, and they gave us new sheets and a complimentary sauna pod for our troubles. We accepted and went back to the cabin to strip and change the beds ourselves. The next morning, there was fresh mouse feces and urine again all over the kitchen, including on the dishes and silverware we’d just cleaned. And, we discovered mice got into our food over night, forcing us to throw it away and buy more, along with buying sealed containers to protect our new food, disposable plates/silverware, and Lysol wipes, constantly disinfecting surfaces ourselves. While staying, we also discovered several hidden mouse traps throughout the cabin, making it obvious this is an ongoing problem they are aware of. And while fixing dinner, around 6p on our last night there, my friend pulled open a kitchen drawer and a mouse sat right there looking at her! 🐭 When we went to check out, we asked to speak with management. The office employees tried to keep us from talking to the owner. Only after we threatened to call the health department did they call him again, and he reluctantly spoke with us. He refunded half of the stay but took no responsibility and dismissed our concerns, saying, “It is a cabin in the woods.” This was a health hazard, not just a rustic cabin, with evidence of a known rodent infestation and inadequate cleaning. There were rodent droppings on surfaces where food is prepared, bedding that had not been properly cleaned, a staff that seemed afraid to address it, and management/owner that was evasive and unprofessional. If you care about a clean, safe place to stay, I would strongly advise looking elsewhere.🤢

Beware of rodent infestation. Rodent urine and droppings all over the silverware. Opening the drawers and seeing mice. Not healthy and a health code violation. The bedsheets were also dirty and we had to ask for new bedsheets on the first night. I’ve stayed at cabins before and never had to deal with rodents. Rodent traps all over the cabin because they are aware of the situation. Mice got in our food and I did not feel comfortable staying there at all. I did get a partial refund and the owner originally tried to avoid talking to me. I refused to leave until they got him on the phone. No apology at all but at least I got a partial refund. I have pictures as well and considered contacting the health department. Not worth the cost they are charging. I don’t feel the owner took my complaint seriously and his comment was, “Well it is a cabin in the woods.” I stay at Hocking Hills every year in a Cabin and never once had to deal with a rodent infestation. I don’t think the owners realize how serious of a problem this is. Expecting people to use your kitchen utensils and pots that have rodent droppings all over it. Even the cutting board had dried rodent droppings when we first got there. Not impressed with their house keeping either. Just remaking beds for the next people instead of actually changing the sheets. For the cost they are charging, there are better and nicer cabins in the area. I stayed in A frame 18, avoid this cabin but I’m sure they all have the same problems. To the owners, please do something about your rodent infestation. It’s a health hazard and a serous concern! Response to owner: This is not an exaggerated review when I was seeing mice when I’d open a drawer and mice droppings everywhere in the cabin, even the next day after I’d clean. Plus the mice getting in our food! Take accountability for your rodent infestation because the mice traps aren’t working. 🤷🏻‍♀️

[EDIT] Following the original review, the management team reached out to me, heard my concerns, and offered compensation for a return stay. Based on that response I have raised the review rating. [EDIT] Original Review Below____________________ We have stayed in their cabins many times over the years going all the way back to our honeymoon, and we've always had great stays. That was not the case with our recent two-night stay. The cabin itself was fine, but we encountered 4 problems, called the office twice about them, and no one from management ever reached out to us. The problems we encountered were 1) a broken dishwasher that management knew about but never informed us of - we discovered it only after filling it and then it not working. On our second call we were told that the dishwasher was scheduled to be replaced after our stay, but again, no one told us this so we let a dishwasher load full of dirty dishes stack up and spent our last evening together washing dishes for an hour. 2) small, flying bugs in the cabin. (photo) 3) messes in the kitchen when we arrived, including some sort of batter that was all over the fridge (photo) 4) and the worst issue was a dirty pair of women's underwear in the closet when we arrived (photo) Again, we have had many good stays with them, but after two calls to their office about these issues, both promising to share our issues with Matt the office manager and the housekeeping manager, we have heard nothing back from them. This is extremely disappointing when we're happy to pay a premium to stay with them expecting that they will take care of the property and us the renters. Unfortunately this experience was bad enough that we will no longer be renting from them.

So, my cousin, sister, and I, went to the Rock House for my birthday. On the second day we noticed that the thermostat said that it wasn't connected to WiFi and the cabin began to get cold. The fire place was not working either. The wifi was choppy the whole time so we thought that it would kick back on. My cousin stayed up all night trying to figure how to get it back online and it was after 8 PM so we did not have any other way to reach the office. They brought space heaters in the AM. We were told that a supervisor would come by to speak with us. I wasn't there when my cousin was presented with two gift certificates for a BBQ joint. She said that she didn't agree to the gift cards being an accommodation for the night of cold on the coldest night that we were there. The supervisor said he was just offering it as a kind gesture. They allowed us to come without filling the gas, apparently. We were all vegan and despite the suggestion of one of the workers that they had vegetables when we returned the gift cards letting them know that we couldn't use them, we didn't want to eat there and couldn't use $100 worth of veggies in the short time that we were in Logan. One of the beds in the second bedroom had long hairs under the covers. My cousin was in that room and didn't want to complain, but with the way they handle their business they probably would have ignored that as well. I've called while we were there to have accomodations for the night and morning spent in the cold and was told that the owner would call us. We were there for two more nights without contact. When I called once we left I was told that we would receive a call and it is going on two weeks since leaving and we have not been contacted. My sister and cousin have anemia and I feel that we should have had this issue taken care of by the manager without having to ask. The way we've been getting treated is very unprofessional and despite the pool we will never make this place a family retreat. I will not let the issue go despite the blatant ignoring by the manager and the owner. I would not suggest this place. They didn't have emergency contact Incase of an emergency. Who doesn't fill up the gas for a four night stay. Reckless and unprofessional is my opinion off Chalets. The night was refunded after this review. The place...

This was probably one of the most disappointing experiences that I have ever experienced on vacation. I had booked this weekend getaway with our two doggies for my boyfriends birthday, me finishing a surgery travel assignment out of state and finally being back home with him, and me graduating with me bachelors to celebrate together. When we got there around 7:30-8p, the back door was unlocked and the fire alarm in the living room was chirping. About an hour or so after we arrived, it seemed that the whole road had lost power and was not coming back on. Due to the area, we had no service to contact anyone as well. We had searched in and around the cabin for fire wood in the dark in hopes to maybe start a fire in the fireplace to give heat and light to make us more comfortable while we waited for the power to come back on but eventually just chose to stay at a hotel for the night because none was in sight nor explained where to find some. I sent a message to the property manager about the issue of the power just to inform them and make them aware since I knew it was late and the office was not open to call right away. I received a message the following morning stating that they were not aware until they came in that morning and that they could refund me the rent amount for Friday and Saturday but in gift card form because power would not be restored until minimum 10pm that day. I explained that we had to stay somewhere else to accommodate safety due to no heat nor service if anything were to happen and if I was being refunded all the fees as well and then was told that they couldn’t do anything for me other than a refund for Friday night and now MAYBE Saturday. It was not the refund of only 50% of my payment but the change up after I brought up that I had to make accommodations for us late at night due to inconveniences that I completely understood were out of everyone’s control. This is not how you treat guests in my opinion. I truly would give 0 out of 5 stars if I could because I was then paying almost 1k to a cabin we couldn’t even stay at and then 300+ for a hotel room for two nights. Luckily, the hotel felt sympathy for our inconvenience so they discounted our rooms to help out. Shout out to holiday inn express...
