Our first camping trip to this campground, we are avid campers with our travel trailer. The low ratings are because of the damage my 2016 travel trailer received from the road leading into the campground. Please see the good and bad below. I like to write detailed reviews so other campers aren't surprised by anything when they arrive at campgrounds. We checked out the other campgrounds while in the area and the Hocking Hills State Park next to Old Mans Cave has added full hookups and recently renovated, they had a pool and their campground is where we will stay next time in hocking hills. In all, this KOA was clean and acceptable for someone to stay at but there are much better options in the area.
The good: -cleanest restrooms and shower facilities (we don't use them but always check them out for reviews). -Campground was clean -quiet hours seemed to be respected, -playgrounds safe, -restaurant (pricey) on site -appropriate activities for children -pool was heated (3ft-4ft deep pool).
The bad: -the road (Patton RD) is only about 1000 ft long and steep, but that wasn't the problem. The road was so rough, even though it was recently chip and sealed, it felt like a washboard under the new covering, I have a new dually so my shocks are fine, the road caused my cabinets to come open, damaging two of them. There was a note in my packet given to me at checkin which explained the road was not owned by the KOA and gave numbers of county commissioners or township trustees (can't remember which) to call to complain and please don't use the road as a factor when leaving a review. This was a sad attempt to pass the buck, as KOA and the owners property was the only place on the road, it's a dead inn. There was one cabin on the road as you started up the hill but not sure who that belongs to. With the price KOA charges, they could easily put money into the road to concrete it than pass the buck and allow their customers to damage their rigs visiting the campground. -pricey, they nickle and dime u to death, charge for kids, adults and have a policy of no outside firewood. Their reason posted for this policy is they want to use local resources, which would be true if they would allow you to buy the firewood from the local shops at a much cheaper rate than they charge at the KOA! The also say burn all your firewood, just another way to maximize their profits. -wristbands for activities required. This is more annoying than anything, my wife likes to take the girls to the pool while I cook dinner. She forgot as we were hiking all day and hadn't put our wristbands on, so she had to walk all the way back down to our site to get the wristbands before being allowed in the pool. Owner explained to me at checkin this was required because so many outside people coming to swim for free, another excuse instead of just adding some security measures to the campground. -checkin time closes at 9pm. This was their local policy that I wasn't informed of when I made the reservation. On my way to the campground on a Thursday night, I received a call on my cell st 845pm asking where I was. I was still 30 min or so out and the woman didn't believe me that no one made me aware of the policy. They did give me a grace period and I showed up and got checked in by the owner. He said it was his policy and his campground was tricky to get into the spots. This 9pm deadline for those of us who need to work before going camping is impossible. -the entire campground is on a hill with cutouts for campers, my site (17) was a little over 3 inches low on the downhill side so took some extra time leveling. -sewer smell from the treatment facility when the wind blew -bees! Our site was covered in bees, wasps seemed to be all over the ground, must have been a nest close. -pine trees over camp sites, I had to clean pine cones off of my slide outs before pulling them in. Hard to do on a hill without a ladder -3 day min...
Read moreI stayed in my RV at the Hocking Hills Holiday site on August 9th & 10th, 2025 based upon close proximately to Hocking Hills S.P. and the various good reviews found here. The campground is clean and the staff friendly however, be aware that some RV sites are not very level. When booking a site for my TAB 320s tear drop trailer, I asked for a site with electric with water but was not given a site number (TBD). When I arrived, I was directed to the tent camping area and the area was far from level. I had to use all of my leveling blocks just to get close (not safe). I finally went to the office where they gave me a pull through site instead (additional cost). OK, stuff happens... On the very next morning as I was walking along our site, a camper came very close to hitting me with her car. She surprised the heck out of me! She was driving reckless, doing at least 25mph, and was throwing road gravel everywhere. Her speed was high enough that she was actually bottoming out her car along the campground roads. I went to the office to complain and file an incident/police report. My God; what if children had been playing by the roads? Unfortunately, the manager was not there and thus, the staff were not allowed to follow up until she came into the office. They acknowledged that there was supporting video but could do nothing. Only the manager could act. BTW, the manager never returned that day either. The next day, I checked in again but the manager was "out", possibly returning at 2pm. I came back at 2pm and was told they knew who the driver was but only the manager could act on it. Manager was again out and did not return that day. I left on the 11th and never saw the manager although she was supposed to call me (never did but texted late in the day). In talking with the staff, they all stated that she barely comes around and that they have a hard time getting things done since ONLY she can approve. Asking for the manager's boss proved fruitless as well. I tried KOA corporate but they have a little nifty statement saying that, "...all KOAs are "franchised" and managed independently." Again, the site was nice, staff friendly, bathrooms clean, and etc. However, this site is very poorly managed. Why reward this KOA when there are many more, independent campsites in the area that are better and more deserving of your hard earned camping dollars. CAMPERS BEWARE especially if you...
Read moreRude and Disrespectful Owner, other staff was nice and embarrassed by the owner, they privately apologised for the way we and our friends were treated. I've stayed with my family at KOA sites my entire life, it's always been a very enjoyable and friendly environment..until now.. We called 3 times on 3 separate days about visiting our friends on site in their camper and tent policy on the same site. ( I understand this is on the website, but we were not planning on staying at the time ) No return call, once we were told the owner was mowing and would call us but she never did. When we showed up we were 1.5 hours ahead of our friends. It was hot so I tried to check in and pay for their site and guest passes so I could put the kids in the pool. ( have done this before). I was told this was not allowed. OK so I said we'll go to the play ground and wait. I was told this was also not allowed because we were not guests yet. I said ok I'll just rent a tent site...we're full go to the State Park she said....wow. Then they sent a poor girl out to my wife in the car and said that there was a 6 person policy per site and that we can't be there anyway, again, we should go to the state park. The way we were handled was rude and if they would just answer their calls it could have been avoided. Amazingly enough they came up with a site after the other two people showed up and had some discussion with this woman. Next day a third party showed up to visit and checked in to pay for guest passes, she accepted their money and gave them the wrist bands. When they asked which site, she gave our site number. At this time she CHANGED HER MIND and told these people that they can't be here, refunded her money and took the kids and her wrist bands back.....all because they were with us and we called her out for being a poor manager / owner. Unbelievable treatment. We all packed up and left the sites. Terrible, terrible, terrible owner. Sadly I have to say the staff was great and apologetic ( should find better jobs ) and the sites were clean, like every other KOA. I'll never be back and neither will my family and friends. Oh...there was a family reunion there at one of the tiny cabins with about 20+ people that used the entire visitor's parking lot...Guess the 6 person rule only applies to some families and their...
