There were a lot of bad reviews posted so we were a little weary on staying here. Yes, the bathrooms could use some updating but honestly the only "mess" I saw was from other humans who obviously didn't know how to flush toilets. The showers had a pull string that made washing and rinsing a tad bit of a challenge, and could use a good cleaning but I take flip flops to wear in public showers anyway and the water was hot so I was happy. My fella rented the "BACK" cabin thinking it was back and away from others as it was just him and I for the weekend. In reality, it was the back door to a cabin that was right near the check in office so it wasn't as private as we thought. (See photo) The staff did call and try to switch cabins for us during the week prior when one opened up but like I said we thought it was "back" and away from others so we didn't want too. Our fault there. We didn't know. The cabin itself had 3 twin beds, one bunk bed and a single against the wall, a microwave, baseboard heat, and a small fridge. We put the single away on the bunks and slept on an air mattress we brought along with us. It was perfect to keep the wind and weather off of us as it was October and rained the first evening. Yes, the put put course could use some visual aids but there was a game room for teenagers and kids to hang out in. Pool was closed due to it being October. Fire wood can be purchased in the office, but we stopped along the roadway and picked some up so I don't know the price. The location of the grounds is ideal as it is not far to travel to see any of the caves and had great hiking trails on the property itself. All in all, the staff and front desk was very friendly. Water was hot, campground quiet, and we had a great time. If you're a "Glamper" stay in a Holiday Inn, if you're out for a good time and enjoy camping in itself this is a decent choice and we would stay here again.

With an average 3.6 stars, our family was unsure if Top O' the Caves was going to be a boom or bust. I am glad to report it was a fantastic stay and we'd highly recommend Top O' the Caves to others. I think it's all about expectations. We were driving a 36' motorhome and wanted a mostly level site with a full hook-up that was also close to hiking around Hocking Hills. When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly staff, shown to our site and then helped with parking on the crushed stone pad. Mark asked if we needed firewood and brought us several bundles and charged them to our tab. We visited the store once and bought some candy, but didn't see if it was well stocked for other travel related needs. There were several other RVs near us, but not so close that we felt crammed-in. The power, water, and sewer worked fine and the views of the hills and pond were nice. The picnic table and fire ring worked for our family to cook several meals outside. Delightfully, the hike to Ash Cave is less than 30-40 minutes away, which made for a wonderful day hiking adventure for our family without having to drive and find parking again. The old church and cemetery across the street were fun to explore, too. Other comments about the facilities looking run-down are mostly on-point - the structures are tired and worn-out, but knowing that in advance makes TOTC as good if not better than the State Park. Highly recommended for RVs and mostly self-contained motorhomes/trailers.

We made a last minute decision to go camping and therefore made our reservation request in late afternoon/evening on a Wednesday for Thursday-Saturday. We tried to call before making the reservation but got no answer. My husband left a message. We received no call back and no reply email. Upon further investigation Thursday morning I saw that their Facebook page says their office opens at noon. So we packed the truck like we were going and headed out. When we arrived the girl in the office had our reservation request (said they had tried to call and didn't get an answer and I'm thinking maybe we were in a dead zone close to camp because we had zero cell signal the whole time we camped) and she helped up pick out a camp site. The site was great! In the trees for shade, close to the bathroom, and the pond for fishing. Girls bathrooms were typical campground bathrooms.. Showers were alright but could use a little love. My daughter and her friend had a blast on the play area and in the arcade. Bummed because some arcade games didn't work and the prize machine was only half working but Camp Staff did help them with that! I wish the tent sites were a little more easily distinguished (like where one starts/ends...) but I think we did okay figuring it out.

Extremely unprofessional behavior from this "company." I essentially got scammed out of my rental money.

(TL;DR)Brief summary in case you don't want to read the entire thing: I planned a trip to Hocking Hills, planning to stay at one of their cabins. They seemingly were not ready for me, and when I wanted my money back, they refused. So not only did they ruin my vacation, they cost me my cabin rental money and refused to refund me.

My brother and I planned a Spring Break trip to the Hocking Hills area (which is gorgeous, by the way), and this had the cheapest place to stay. All I wanted was a place to sleep both nights since this area is a decent trip from home. (Roughly ~3 hours drive). Once placing my reservation online, the ONLY thing I received from them were two emails, one confirming my request, and one confirming my reservation. Absolutely no details on what to expect, instructions to check-in, etc.

When we arrived at the campground, it was immediately apparent no one had been on the site in quite some time. We walked up to the front office, which was closed. (This was around noon) We looked up and down the front area, and saw nothing able to help us, and without any cell service (and the payphone conveniently out of order), we figured we'd come back later and try again.

My brother and I checked in periodically over the rest of the day, visiting various locations around the area, looking again and again around the front office area and wandered around the campsite a bit. We eventually gave up, and after a long day of hiking, we had to drive another three hours home. Once we gained service, we called the office and left a message saying that we were not able to check in, would be canceling our reservations, and were expecting a refund.

The next day, a lady calls me acting as an employee of the campground. She tells me that they had left a note on the front door saying "the key to the cabin was inside the cabin." I told the lady that there was no such note on the door, and that this was very unprofessional, especially with no previous instruction. She replied with the following: "Sir, this is the off-season. My manager can let you reschedule for anytime in March or April." To which I replied that I would not be doing business with them ever again. I asked if I could get my money back on at least one of the days, to which she replied "No sir, I'm afraid I cannot do that. Goodbye." And promptly hung up on me.

So, not only did this company cut short my Spring Break vacation, they refuse to refund my rental money, which, as a student, I could really use. If they see this review and do end up refunding me, I will adjust accordingly. But as of this point, they have not given me any indication that they plan on doing so.

Please, avoid this campground. It is poorly managed, poorly maintained, and I hope you can avoid the same predicament as the one I...

We paid slightly over $1000 for three nights in this dump, and I'm still shaking my

head. We wanted to turn back the moment we saw the place but they already had

over $500 of our money, so we figured we'd give it a try.

The place was very outdated, so, that's okay, but it was filthy! The kitchen floor

was so sticky that my sister ended up mopping it (with the pitiful excuse for a

mop they had there). I had to stay in the back bedroom off the main kitchen, and

the bathroom there was frightening. There's just barely enough room for a toilet

between the wall and the tub, but you need to be about 150 pounds or less (which

fortunately I am) to get back into the tub/toilet area. And when you sit down,

your leg pretty much touches the wall if you don't turn your body toward the tub.

Because of the proximity, I'm sure years of urine splashing on the wall is what

caused the paneling to bubble up. Luckily I brought Lysol disinfecting wipes, and

after using FOUR of them -- just on the 1x1 foot area where your thigh would touch

the wall if you weren't careful -- the wipe was still yellow from the years of pee.

Gross! I refused to go barefoot in the place.

Not only were most of the furnishings a bunch of mismatched and outdated stuff,

but the dishwasher did not work, and both of the coffee makers were apparently so

clogged by the hard water that it took ONE HOUR to brew 12 cups. I had to get up at

7:00 just to put the coffee on to serve it at 8:00. At least one of the beds was broken

down -- the corner of the mattress crushed -- and the beds were so squeaky. As I

was on the lower level, I could hear every move people on the second floor made. It

sounded like they were going to come through the floor! There was only one small

saucepan, and although the place is supposed to sleep 20 people (and there were

plenty of dishes), there were only a couple of decent-sized skillets and both had the

non-stick surface in bad shape.

Unsafe: The railings going upstairs would NEVER pass code. They are about 1.5

feet apart, so totally not safe for little ones. Same with the railings over the balcony.

There were wasps everywhere (and quite a few inside). There were mangy, flearidden cats roaming around, which were pitiful, but we dared not let the kids near

them -- some had open sores on them.

The pool looked straight out of 1950, with cheap plastic chairs around it, and little

room between the pool and fence. The arcade looked like something out of the 70s,

too -- pathetic. There's a small lake that was pretty, but the fishing was poor.

Pros: The guy who did the grass-cutting was very nice and said he had no idea

about the broken appliances. The sheets and towels smelled very fresh and clean.

We checked and found no bed bugs. There were plenty of dishes. The grounds were

immaculate and it is a very...

We were very excited to get away with our family for the New Year’s eve weekend. We rented the Top of The Caves Lodge located at the campground. We rented the lodge for 3 nights. We are very disappointed during our stay. The whole lodge was very dirty it look like someone had not cleaned in quite a while, a little dusting and cobweb cleaning would’ve went along way. Upstairs there were old beer cans left in the loft, water bottles and trash under the bed, dirty towels left under the bathroom sink, One lightbulb over the bathroom sink that was working, some of the upstairs outlets would not work, The Jacuzzi tub would not work, and rust in the standup shower , and no shower head on the upstairs shower just a pipe coming out of the wall . The upstairs also remained very hot due to the electric fireplace being on and even when you did turn it off it’s still remained quite warm upstairs. If both ceiling fans had worked upstairs that would help maintain the temperature however one of the ceiling fans was not working . The downstairs bedrooms some of the outlets were not working and just dirty . In the bathroom closest to the front door the floor looked like it was giving away. And the other downstairs restroom was so tiny and dirty. It kept saying there were 3 kitchens. Yes there are 3 kitchens but they were ridiculous one kitchen the stove wouldn’t work another kitchen the water wouldn’t work and in main kitchen one of the burners on the stove would not work. The dishes and cookware they left were filthy and were cobwebs and dirt in the kitchen . Good thing we brought our own kitchen items. The hot water situation only approximately 2 people could take a shower before the water was cold so we did not have very much hot water that was another downfall. In the common area it was very large and decent again it needed cleaned. In the common area there are 2 large doors leading out onto the sunporch however the doors would not close, so there’s constantly cold air coming into the common area. They had put curtains up there but the curtains only block so much cold air. This made it very cold in the common area. I understand this was the off-season however I would’ve thought someone would’ve went in and checked the place and made sure it was clean before renting the lodge out . We had reserved this in November so it was not like it was a last-minute reservation they had plenty of time to go in and check the lodge out and to clean it. Before we have left we had made sure everything was picked up and things were put back where we got them and we swept the kitchen floor . I think that we did more cleaning, than they had done in a while. We will not be going back and we will not recommend this to anyone until updates and cleaning has been done I would not recommend...
