When we checked in the staff was great. Great directions, the park was empty. Spent all day enjoying the peace and quiet, the cabin was really hard to find, however pleasant. We were under the impression there would be mattresses on all the beds, and there was nothing. The pictures of this place are extremely misleading, the ziplines do not run and to be able to get to the beach and swim is impossible unless there before or after sunrise. The showers are very nasty and not convenient, with old clothes and spent band aids on the floor. After about 1oclock on Friday afternoon, people started spilling into the park. The Cass County sheriff's department were supposed to patrol and monitor this, but never once did we see a police vehicle. However, a seven year old kid was driving through the park, unaccompanied in his parent's car. The pictures of the fishing pond, do show ease for the family angling. They do not show, the hardship of the navigation of this "lake". The kenneth post, the convenience store, the staff were however very friendly and very quaint. But the prices were extremely high, when selling an off brand for twice the amount of name brand. The speed-limit within the park is 10mph, if you were a camper and golf carts coming by at 20-30 mph, you wouldn't feel safe or comfortable with walking on foot for fear of getting hit, when most were driven by 10-11 yr old kids, or adults with a drink in their hands. We researched this park for several years before we came, and we were really looking forward to the family outing that would allow everyone an enjoyable time. Highly disappointing that the pictures of the falls are very deceiving. As a camper and outdoors-man, and a family, this park was very disappointing. This is not some place I would recommend to anybody looking for a fun-filled weekend. We will not, and I repeat recommend or return to the France Park Facility. It was money, poorly spent. We watched over the course of two days, a clean field on the right and left side before the y in the road (before the campgrounds and cabin), go from a presentable place to being absolutely riddled with trash. Twenty tents, and 20 more vehicles, screaming kids and adults, and a non-quiet dog, right on top of our campsite, and despite saying something to the gate, nothing was ever said or done. We had to endure the same situation for two nights, and it was after 2:30 in the morning before anyone on our campsite ever got to bed. ABSOLUTE WORST CAMPING...
Read moreOverall, this was an experience. We did some nice hiking around the quarry on and off trail. They have nice trails throughout the woods for golf carts or walking. If you camp in the campground, be prepared to drive, walk, bike, and golf cart to all the different scenic spots. There are a BUNCH of rustic spots all over, and some are very cool spots. The campground however have very tight spots that are not only close. They can be hard to get into if busy. Many are also on very steep grades, so you need to pack lots of wood/blocks to get leveled out. Restrooms were fine, but they should have no smoking signs as people kept smoking in them. They have "no pet" signs but not no smoking signs. They do open the whole park & especially the swimming beach to the public so it gets very packed on weekends and rules are barely if at all enforced. Also, scuba diving is available but also block off a portion of the swimming lake as well so you're not allowed to have floats or your own snorkling gear while they are there or you have to pay. If there are lifeguards on site, they stay way up off the beach by the life jacket area for the blow-up area and aren't recognizable. The restroom near the lake is a good distance away and also smells strongly of sewage/sewer gas. The litter all over the park is sad, especially on the trails. There are dumpsters located around sporadically, but I feel if there were more trash receptacles available, it may help w/ the trash. The fishing lake is covered in moss, and there wasn't much to it (it's pretty small even though the map makes it look bigger). There was also litter floating around there, too. We took kayaks & paddle boards, but there wasn't much we could do w/them. It's definitely not a lake to do anything but fish if even that, and it smells. Overall, we had a great weekend, and again, it was an experience because we made the best of it. We'll be better prepared if we come again. I'd maybe leave the camper at home and tent camp and just bring a golf cart. They allow dogs but not on the beach and not in any facilities. The playgrounds and most facilities look like they're from the 80's but there are a couple. There are a few pavilions that get packed...
Read moreMy boyfriend, dog, and I stayed at France Park for two nights and had a great time. We rented the cabin (there’s only one on site) and wanted to make a review since it’s hard to find info on it. The cabin is tucked away and was difficult to find due to the staff not giving us a map or directions but we found it just after driving the whole park and deciding to go back for directions. The cabin is primitive and you have to bring your own bed clothes, pillows, etc. no running water, electric, or heating/cooling but there is an electrical outlet a little ways from the cabin. You’d need an extension cord to reach the cabin though. Picnic table and fire ring on site. They didn’t give us any hassle with bringing our dog which we declared when making the reservation. The cabin is very shaded and I was not worried about my dog over heating. There’s also a store on site with basic supplies and you can also buy firewood on site. There were vault toilets right by the cabin but they were intolerable…strong odor, wet floors, you get it…so we would head up to the bath house for the rest rooms. Little bit of a walk so we’d drive up. Those were clean and the showers were free.
France Park had a lot of fun things to do including various fishing areas (one being just down the hill from the cabin), a swimming/beach area with an obstacle course on the water, and the coolest disc golf course I’ve ever seen (we brought our own discs. I didn’t check to see if you could rent or buy on site). The course goes through the woods and was very challenging for a beginner like myself but loved the experience. The location is also fairly close to a tubing place called Riverside Rentals and we really enjoyed that river float. Also not too bad of a drive to town if needing supplies.
I wish we would have taken more photos but was too consumed in being present and enjoying disconnecting. Overall, the only negative was the vault toilets but we’ll definitely be back to enjoy this...
