This is a gorgeous park with tons of interesting history. We stayed in the Assistant Lighthouse Keepers house--LKW1. Its 3 bedroom with a large very well appointed kitchen and living space, only one bath. The kitchen has the usual but add in a blender and tons of high quality pots, utensils, etc. ||The place was spotless. Beautiful hardwood floors (or something that looked hardwood), nice clean couch and loveseat. I always give an extra star to a place that has hooks in the bathrooms especially now we don't get clean towels every day (why do so many places have no hooks???). Overall, a very lovely place to stay....IF you are a hearty, healthy and unimpaired person....||...However, for us, my husband has mobility issues and arthritis. While he can do a normal set of stairs, the stairs in this beautiful old house are quite high (each step is probably 3 inches more than a normal set), somewhat circular and there are a lot of them. He had a ton of problems getting up and down them (especially down). Super scary in the middle of the night traveling down to the one bathroom. ||The other issue is that the beds are like concrete covered in a two inch thin pad. I've literally never slept in such a hard bed or knew they even made such a torture devise. My poor husband lasted about 2 hours the first night. Ended up going downstairs, taking the cushions off the couch and sleeping on the floor. Super miserable. ||Long story shorter, we stayed two nights of the three we payed for. If the bed had been doable for him, we would have done ok, but between the unusable bed and the steep stairs...it just wasn't the place for us.||Notice I still gave 4 stars because it is lovely, clean and very well appointed. It is just not made for oldies with arthritis or sore joints or those with any sort of mobility problems. And let me say one more time... the beds...
Read moreI booked 2 campsites in loop D near Lake O ‘ Neil in Cape Disappointment state park in January. My camping experience was ruined because of the mess created by raccoons. We reached our campsite after sunset and kept a bag of unopened chips on the picnic table before we started setting up the tents. In less than 5 min of our arrival the raccoon stole the bag of chips and tried to escape. So it was clear that we couldn’t have any food outside. That was a bummer. I had called the park to check if Loop D sites were operating and had no issues. It would have been helpful if the park office warned us of raccoons attacking campsites. We would have better prepared ourselves. Even after no food was kept outside while we were sitting by the campfire the raccoons were roaming the campsite multiple times. So we couldn’t be relaxed and always had to be vigilant of their presence. My request to the park is please put up signs to be aware of raccoons to not take out food even when you are present at your campsite. All campsites in loop D are not well maintained. The one good part was washrooms were clean with hot water and hot showers. Overall the loop D campsites need a lot of maintenance for...
Read moreWe positively love this campground and camp here every February. We had a rather poor experience with a couple of campers behind us last weekend, which, although extremely entertaining, also caused a disturbance to at least two different camping loops that continued off and on from just after 10 p.m. until about 2 a.m. So, a gentle reminder for those who may have a medical device that must be plugged in at night: Generator hours apply to EVERYONE and can only be run at certain times of the day. Contact the Ranger station at the campground for generator hours and for help. There are sometimes electrical sites that end up open from travelers that cancel their reservations at the last minute. And, if someone does not abide by the rules, contact the non emergency state patrol phone number and let them know instead of causing a bigger disturbance than a...
