First of all I paid 234 for my room and the individuals that we traveled with paid significantly less.
Upon arriving to the hotel at 3:30pm, we waited almost 20 minutes for our rooms to be ready. This was apparently because we requested to have rooms near each other. Which one member of our party still ended up 3 floors down. Little did we know this would be the least of our worries during this trip. During the time we were waiting to be checked in, we asked where the pool was and a staff member took us over to the doorway and showed us.
We finally head over to the elevator to go to our rooms, we wait what feels like a lifetime for the one working elevator too open and it’s full of staff with large baskets of laundry - so there is no room for guests with children, let alone luggage. This happens 2-3 times before we finally get an elevator that does not have staff, laundry, or both - once we get on the elevator it is barely getting us to the floors and was dropping in a terrifying way when stopping at the floors. A hotel employee who looked terrified quickly exited the elevator at the next stop. And said there was too many people, there were 6 adults and some children. No where near the 2,500 pound limit written on the wall.
Once we get to our rooms, we quickly Change to get the kids to the pool after a long 3 hour drive in the car. We go to use the safe and lock up our belongings, only too see the safe does not work. We go to put our beverages in the fridge, it also does not work. My husband pulls it out to ensure it’s plugged in. Which it is, but it is not working.
When we arrive at the pool, we find a closed for maintenance sign on the door which was not there 15 minutes prior. We are then told by a different hotel staff that the pool will be closed for the remainder of our stay.
We head back up the rooms to change with our extremely disappointed children and shower up for dinner. When the elevator door closes, it CLOSES on one of the adults. The single door seperated into two sections when the sensor tried to stop it - only half of the door stopped. Slamming into her. Thank god it was not one of the small children were traveling with. I have never seen this in my life. So we decide to take the stairs instead. Upon arriving at the 3rd floor there is a random door which is cut essentially in half and is half standing up on its own and half leaning against a wall. One of the children touched it unknowingly and it falls, luckily a parent was able to catch it before someone got hurt. There were also multiple lights missing in the stair case making those sections completely dark.
When we get to our floor we realize the room door never shut behind us and is open. The doors to the room do not shut all the way unless you pull them closed hard. We then realized almost all of the doors on the floor were open.
Once we’re back in the room, we go to take a shower only to find hair, dirt and grime in the shower, on the shower glass and also the hardware of the shower. The floors are filthy and not cleaned. They have hair on them and visible dust sitting in the corners near the shower floor and just top it all off, The bathroom door knob has something crusty on it. Instead we decide to use washcloths and the sink. Except the sink is covered in toothpaste and the backslash and counter tops have toothpaste and other spots everywhere.
At this point I’m beyond frustrated and start inspecting the room further. I find stains, boogers, and food on the walls. The dresser has visible staining on the outside and is dusty and has crumbs on the inside. When opened the A/C unit has some sort of stinky substance on it and is also visibly dusty. Furthermore, Both the chair and the couch cushions have visible dark spots and staining. There was a red or yellow stain on one of the bedsheets and also some sort of dead bug or black crumb on the inside of the pull out couch.
We finally get to go downstairs to dinner where we’re met with a woman at the buffet who seems to have zero idea what’s going on and no desire to find out. She sends us to the bartender who is extremely helpful and kind. He gets our order taken and drinks served. He seems to realize that however many individuals are working in this “restaurant” are struggling too fufill our order and begins to help her. Meanwhile the woman from the buffet is watching and doing absolutely nothing. We waited in total over 1 hour 45 minutes for all of our food including 2 appetizers, 7 adult entrees, and 8 children’s meals. The food all came out at different times totaling a 45 minute span. Some of the food was piping hot when it came out and some of it felt as though it just left a refrigerator. The trash can nachos were so cold they were inedible and only a few bites were taken. 2 orders of fries were so cold no one could eat them. And one of the children waited the entire 1 hour and 45 minutes for his plain pizza, which arrived last - when everyone else was already done eating. The bartender was super understanding and trying to be as helpful as possible but there was little that he could do to fix it. Another staff member approached us with dipping sauces and asked if we needed anything else. When I started telling him about our experience he directed us to the front desk associate who was very nice, but told us that there was no one in charge here tonight and nothing that he could do until the morning when we would need to speak with the manager who would hopefully be in between the hours of 7am and 8am but no immediate solutions were offered.
We decided to call it a night and come back up the rooms. The last member of our party, whose room was separated from all of us found her pullout couch did not have fresh and clean bedding but was unmade, had dirty sheets, and a blood stain. The other members also had dirty walls and shower and a safe giving them an error code, but at least their refrigerator works.
Being that it was at that point now nearing 8pm we have no choice but to stick it out and stay here, especially considering we have to be up early for our engagement the following day and the children need to sleep. I cleaned up the sink using my Own wipes to make it suitable for brushing of teeth and washing faces. We continued too see how neglected the rooms are and the lack of cleanliness. Crumbs sit in every single corner space, the desk chair has never seen a wipe, nor the desk table. You can see the mirrors had been wiped down, and the toilet paper had stickers holding the top down but it’s safe to say that’s the only house keeping that was done here.
Oh, and the microwave doesn’t work. So if hot food is something you desire - this place is...
Read moreThis was my families 15th year in a row coming to the area for a trip to Hershey. Over the years we have stayed at the Holiday inn a few times when it was at another location down the road. On this stay there were a few things that were not that great. The main item I had a big issue with was the room I was in. We were in room 414. I booked it due to the space of the room in the pic on the website. It was a king suite with two rooms. In the picture the room looked great. Nice living room with a big couch that also had a lounger section on it, big dresser, mirror and sitting chair with ottoman. Upon entering the room it looked more like a cheap motel then that picture. It had a very small couch w/no lounger, no sitting chair, no ottoman, a TV on top of small and dirty looking fridge with a bracket still on the wall, no dresser, no mirror, and a desk with wires just all exposed. It was a horrible set up. Not sure why a room would be in that condition. I sat there upset and uncomfortable by the set up. I knew the hotel was sold out so moving was not an option. I had called another hotel down the road about availability but due to money my wife advised me we should just stay there and make best of it. So to make it more comfy and look better, I personally moved furniture around and put the TV on desk so it looked a little better and used my kids luggage to hide all the exposed wiring. I then also went to Target and bought an air mattress and blanket for one of my kids since the couch was smaller then anticipated.
Not what Ive come to expect from a Holiday Inn. I had just booked the same type room from another brand hotel in Williamsburg VA from 7/30-8/3 and it was everything the pic showed and I was very happy with it. Maybe this room was just under construction or something and I was the one who got the bad room. I would hope the rest of the rooms were not in this shape. Other issues were minor ones like no light in the shower so when u shower its dark, shower curtain was short so water goes all over floor when u shower, no towel hooks and a bath counter like 8ft away so you have to leave ur towels on the floor outside the shower on the floor that gets wet. Minor things but big thing was definitely expecting one type of room and getting another. Definitely makes me reevaluate staying there or with the Holiday Inn Brand again.
I will say one good thing was the staff. They were attentive whenever I needed anything from them. This review does not reflect them as I know they dont fix rooms and set them up with furniture or put the pics on the website showing the...
Read moreLet me first acknowledge that we are in unprecedented times. However, unprecedented times or not, this experience was was pretty terrible even coming in with low expectations. Upon entering the hotel all staff had their masks on and all guests in the lobby had no masks, which is great either way. But the pool is closed due to covid and the continental breakfast is closed due to covid. This makes no sense to me, why not just open the pool and breakfast for people with their vaccinations. We specifically looked for a hotel with a pool, and with the mask mandate lifted for vaccinated people you’d think your policies would also change. The interior of the hotel was warm, we later found out that the air conditioning in the lobby and hallways was broken. If we had known we would have went to a different hotel.
Thank goodness the air conditioner in our room worked. The sheets on our pull out couch were dirty we had to request new ones. The
shower in the bathroom was extremely difficult to turn on. Then there
was no blow dryer in the room at all. The next morning we called the lobby for house keeping to clean our room, due to covid they only
clean rooms if it is requested. Unfortunately, we called 3 minutes too
late and our request was denied even though there was no sign of the
cut off time anywhere, just a sign stating a request was needed. After speaking with the front desk to see if they could still honor our request
the man at the desk stated he was the manager and the request
would not be taken we would have had to call before 9AM, we called at 9:03. We later complained to the evening desk only to
find out the man was not a manager but a supervisor, obviously
abusing his “power”. There was no continental breakfast just an 8oz water bottle, a small OJ and a nutrigrain bar in a brown paper bag. Just a disappointing visit to say the least. Last on our way out we spoke to a manager, hopefully this time it actually was and he was apologizing about the supervisor which we appreciated and he said he would credit the card that was in file. This did not happen which is fine but don’t offer or say you’re going to do something if you’re...
