We stayed in room 102 in the motel part of the resort for one night. We did not visit the pool.|I will start with the pros. The room was very clean and the decor was nice. The floor was some sort of laminate so it was nice not having carpet in a room where the door opens straight to outside. |Now to the cons. |1. When we received our confirmation after booking, we were told that the room would be ready by 4:00. Although this seemed a bit later than most other properties we have stayed at over the years, it was fine because we knew our ferry would not arrive in Cape May until a bit after 4:00. When our ferry was docking, I sent a text asking about our room since we still had not heard anything and it was just after 4:00. We were told that it would be ready shortly. We were offered a later check out but this was not helpful because we were leaving early the next morning to go to our next stop on our vacation. So we drove to the motel but our room still wasn't ready so we went to a convenience store and bought food for breakfast the next morning. We were texted that our room was finally ready about 4:25. However, when we checked into the room, we realized that we were missing washcloths and a shower curtain. It is pretty difficult to take a shower without a shower curtain unless they wanted us to get water all over the floor. We found someone and told them about the missing items and they were taken care of.|2. When we were putting our stuff down in the room, we noticed that there was an envelope on the dresser for tips for housekeeper. I tried to pick it up to move it but it was so wet that it just tore. At first we thought it was just wet from someone cleaning and putting the envelope down before the dresser dried. However, we soon realized that the room had a major moisture problem. After dinner, we got caught in a rainstorm. After everyone had taken a shower, we tried to dry off the floor where we had dripped some water from our wet clothes. We were never able to get the floor permanently dry. We hung up our wet clothes as best we could in the bathroom and they were just as wet the next morning as when we hung them up. Luckily they dried the next night at our next hotel. Also, when we got up the next morning, the sheets and all of our luggage, snacks, etc. were damp. It was unpleasant.|3. After we got back home from our vacation, we realized that the balance that was charged to our credit card was $25.59 more than the balance shown as due per our confirmation email. We had not been emailed a receipt for the balance paid. I had to email twice before I received a response as to why the difference. The response I received was to ask if we had extra people. I responded that no, we had two adults and two kids which is what our confirmation showed. The response I received was "I’m not quite sure why there’s an additional charge. I will credit your account on Monday." After some more emails back and forth, they assured me that the credit had been processed, but I still didn't see it on my credit card account. I eventually gave up and contacted my credit card company to complain about the overcharge and get it credited back. The fact that they didn't know why our card was charged that amount is very concerning. How do they know if they are charging the correct amount (whether too high or too low) if they don't know the correct amount to charge? I certainly wouldn't have complained if they had charged too little.|4. The bathroom has a very small sink and no counter space. We were forced to put our toiletries on the toilet lid because there was no other place available and the top of the toilet had a basket with toilet paper and washcloths. It is frustrating to not have any space to put anything in the bathroom. A small shelf would be...
Read moreIt sucks to stay here year after year, reserving their expensive King and Queen Cottages, tipping the cleaners and whatnot, and then be given attitude when you call them during a storm and tell them you can’t make it due to flooded roads and terrible visibility. They said I had to reschedule immediately or lose my money and booking entirely. Didn’t ask if we were okay, didn’t tell us to stay safe. They just immediately, and in an extremely annoyed tone, told me to rebook on that same call. In a panic, and with no time to even look at my calendar, I hastily picked a date that ultimately didn’t end up working for us. Then when I asked to reschedule again (gave them plenty of notice by the way this time) Mark, the manager, starts flipping out, holding the fact I “rescheduled twice” over my head like it was some kind of crime against humanity, and even badmouthed me to my own mother, who I had convinced to book there too. I didn’t appreciate that.
I ended up not being able to make it at all. Their refusal to accommodate due to unforeseen circumstances, and their rudeness overall, just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. And this was all during their off season too! They could’ve worked with us more. Whatever though. Plenty of other places to stay at that are actually close to the beach and where the staff are more hospitable and accommodating.
Do they not understand that choosing to be accommodating and friendly to their guests makes them MORE money in the longterm? Do they not understand that a loyal customer is far more valuable than a single booking? I was going to have my whole family stay here for my wedding for Christ’s sake. Sorry, their overpriced cottages aren’t worth the terrible customer service that comes along with them. I could’ve also went to town on the bad things we noticed during the last times we stayed, like the bugs in the room, the broken sliding bathroom door that nearly fell on us, the fact the TV didn’t work, the lack of towels or blankets, but I had chosen to let that all go. Things happen! It’s a shame they couldn’t...
Read moreWe recently stayed at the Cape Cottage Inn for a quick 3 day, 2 night getaway. I have spent a considerable amount of time in Cape May and really loved the look of the new cottages added during the rebuild. I am so glad I decided to book here.
We stayed in Cottage #8, Sandpiper Cottage. The rooms are exactly how they look in the website photos. Cozy bed, couch, breakfast table and outdoor Adirondack chairs and bistro table. The tub floor needs a bit of reinforcement as it's super creaky but not a big issue. The kitchenette is so convenient - microwave, fridge/freezer, cooktop, pantry, fully equipped with all the cooking essentials. Every detail was noticed by us.
Check-in was super simple. We felt welcome immediately and even had a couple special requests that were accommodated without any trouble at all.
The pool was wonderful! So many entry points and ledges to relax, a bathroom, MANY tables and loungers, the rock waterfall wall is great because it blocks out the road noise well. Grounds are well maintained and clean, plenty of parking, AC worked GREAT (quiet) - just overall great.
The only complaint I have is both nights, we had 2 different sets noisy neighbors who were outside pretty late not taking into consideration that there were other guests in the cottages trying to sleep. Enforcement of the quiet hours is tough to navigate - it's sad that common courtesy has gone by the wayside; certainly not the hotels fault.
I would highly recommend staying at the cottages and we will most certainly be back. Thank you for a...
