This is a decent little motel overall. It's just a tiny bit rough around the edges. The motel is located right in Lubec, close to local eateries and sightseeing locations. Note that several of the eateries close early (7pm) or are only open a couple of days a week, so your options can be limited depending on your schedule. I had a double room with two queensized beds. The room was very clean, and the beds were very comfortable. Overall, the condition of the room was good. The flooring looked new, and the bathroom facilities also appeared new. A little bit of rust on the baseboard heater stood out, considering how nice everything else was. I woke on my second day to discover that the wifi was out, so I had no TV or internet service. But the office was not open until 7am so nothing I could do. I packed up and left early as a result, although I wanted to have a leisurely morning watching TV and checking my emails. The air conditioning was set at 76 degrees Fahrenheit and you cannot adjust it except to turn up the heat. It was a warm day and I found that the room was uncomfortably warm at night at 76 degrees, so I did not sleep well as a result. A ceiling fan did little to cool off the room. The room had a good little fridge that worked well and was clean, as was the little microwave. The grounds overall were reasonably nice, with Adirondack chairs in front of every room. The front lawn needed to be mowed, and there were weeds growing up against the buildings - hence my description of the motel being "rough around the edges." There were a couple of picnic tables in the front yard that were very worse for the wear and need to be replaced or at least painted. But every room had a flowerbox in the windows with flowers that looked well cared for. All rooms are no smoking, and they ask that you smoke at least 20 feet from the building. They do a Continental breakfast with fresh muffins cooked every morning - supposedly. I checked in at 3pm on a Friday, and there was only one other car in the parking lot. By 6pm, the motel was full. Check in was quick and easy. The rooms do have electronic locks as well a room key, so you can unlock the door if you lock your key inside. There is adequate parking. The motel is fairly close to the main road, so you can hear the traffic if you have the windows open in your room. In conclusion, I would stay again if I wanted to be right in Lubec. It's just too bad that the owners don't take the place to the next level by manicuring the front landscaping, cutting the weeds away from the front of the building, painting the slightly rusty baseboard heater, and buying some nice new picnic tables. If these things were done, and if they allowed you to control the air conditioning on hot days, I would say its a 5-Star motel. In any case, aside from these relatively minor issues, its a perfectly decent, above average motel with very clean, well-kept rooms, comfy beds, and reasonable rates. I'm sure most people will be perfectly happy...
Read moreEdit: Added 1 star for the attentiveness of the office staff in the morning, and the breakfast was a nice touch. However it was difficult to sleep during the the night.

The room itself is clean but this overall property is shockingly run-down, dingy, and sketchy given the reviews and the verbiage on the website.
We were not assigned to a room in the actual "motel" section of the property with drive-up rooms and Adirondack chairs, so we are not treated to any of the hotel's scant charms. Instead, we were assigned to an interior room in a particularly dilapidated section of the property. It is very loud, with constant pounding in the hallway, slamming doors, and other sounds from other rooms. Since the office closes at 9 and no after-hours contact is provided, it appears we will have no recourse when we inevitably fail to get any sleep.
They tout their "continental breakfast" served in the office, but the office is a tiny cramped room with no space to accommodate breakfasting guests, so it will be interesting to see if/how that works.
The location is not scenic and there are no nearby amenities. I wish that we had looked for better options for a quiet, accommodating place to...
Read moreMe, my wife, 16 month old son and our dog stayed here at the end of September 2011. It is a pet-friendly motel and we had one of the pet-friendly rooms. For those that travel with pets, I would recommend it--the owners have a very friendly Labrador. We had 2 nice beds, coffee maker, sitting area and plenty of room. All was very clean. In talking with the owner I learned that rooms are steam cleaned weekly. We felt at home and had a nice, restful stay. Out back are grills and picnic tables. Each morning there are fresh-baked muffins, coffee and other breakfast items. The cost is the same as others in the area but the service is far better. We felt like we were visiting friends and this was the first time we stayed here.
I went to Maine looking for a memorable vacation experience and found a nice piece of it here in terms of friendly owners and a good night's rest. The scenery is great--small towns, lighthouses and rugged coast. We watched harbor seals play around while we ate lunch in Lubec. At night, if you walk outside, you will see literally millions of stars. We will be repeat visitors. I hope you enjoy your visit as...
