Let me tell you all about our adventure in Boo-Boo Land. |Lots to do-we had seven adults and three children. The children loved the activities, the water area, the bounce area, paddle boats and putt putt. My two year old granddaughter did hate the bear “No bear! I no see the bear. Go away bear.” I mean-I’d telling her he’s was coming and she’d grab and hide her head on “pops” aka my husband. We stayed in a cabin, and it was what was available when I booked, so the location was good and close to everything but small. |The staff was all very nice -except for one girl when we arrived-I opened the door to|The office and she yelled “we are closed”. Another girl did help me locate my cabin -it was only 8:00 and I had wanted to buy firewood, but that was fine. |Now here’s the Boo-Boo part and it’s just funny)|I went to turn on the oven and the knob fell off in my hand -I don’t know if it ever got fixed. A gentleman came and took it and said he’d be right back-three days later it was still gone (we never saw that guy again-I think HE went on vacation)|The TV didn’t work and we were told each day (for two days) someone would come fix it. That person never came but genius daughter with a law degree and seven years of college, fiddled with it and got it working. Then, no one wanted to watch it anyway lol. |The ice machine didn’t work-we got use to drinking warm drinks-I read they are good for the digestion-I informed the disgruntled crew-they were not impressed. Some bought drinks at the snack bar. I stoically drank warm drinks. |Now the best-no water for a day and a half |We couldn’t brush our teeth (I personally chewed gum and brushed my teeth with mouthwash. I don’t know what the others did-I’m afraid to ask, but I didn’t get too close to their mouths). Dishes remained in the sink until the water came on-the dog licked a few clean for those in a hurry for clean dishes. |No warm water for showers-my husband took a cold shower. The rest of us probably smelled for the day. That’s okay, because we had stinky grandchildren-they wouldn’t take a shower and the plug in the tub didn’t work. My daughter finally resorted to putting a washcloth over the drain long enough for them to bath before it floated out (those 7 years of college just kept paying off-such ingenuity!). |We went to play bingo-cards were sold out. We ate ice cream instead. I think bingo would have been better for my diet. My daughter-in-law stayed a bit longer and did get a show-a drunk woman was so mad she could play bingo, that she decided to entertain everyone with her antics-so sorry I missed that! I guess that lady really loved bingo!!|At night , we got all settled down for the movie and the staff couldn’t figure out how to get the movie started -they tried really hard. We got there early to get good seats and we could see them struggling to figure out how to use the projector-they finally gave up and so did we. We went back to our cabin and played poker-not a good idea, because my son won all my grocery money for the week. I had to eat McDonald’s and buy donuts. |Now, Aaron, the manager is really nice (he honestly is) he gave us two tickets for two free large pizzas. I thought great, there’s dinner. I got to the restaurant and they weren’t making pizzas and didn’t know when they would again. They told me I could keep the coupons and if they made it in the future, I could use them. I don’t think I will be driving four hours to get pizza that may not be there (I wouldn’t drive four hours for pizza I knew would be there). I returned the tickets to Aaron for recycling. |Now, what did this weekend cost me (not counting gas and groceries) $2,200 for the cabin the size of my bedroom (literally-small cabin -big bedroom) |Crafts (my daughter paid for them, but I’ll still counting them!) shirts/ceramic monstrosities (after painting -a little better before) $200|Ice cream and snack bar food $150|Gift Store treasures 80|Wood $30 (actually, that’s not bad)|So, all said and done from start to finish -I am going to throw in gas and groceries after all-we spent almost $3,000 for this three day fiasco. Would I do it again-absolutely!!! I haven’t laughed so hard in years, the kids had fun-hell, even the dog had fun. The staff is nice though some need training (the projector guy was hysterical-if he was a cartoon character he’d have a question mark over his head. “He’s got it…it ready to start…no wait…maybe…and he’s giving up” “No, he just went to get more people”. People who also didn’t know what they were doing lol.). Kids had fun, we couldn’t stop laughing Just sit back, enjoy the show, eat the popcorn -the Boo Boo Show at...
Read moreMy 8 year old son, niece and I stayed at jellystone this past weekend. It was okay, didn't thrill for me price which is to be expected at a place geared towards children. We stayed at jellystone at natural bridge a few years ago and while some of the amenities there seemed kind of run down, the beach area with the water pillows and obstacle course was a cool feature this one was missing. My son absolutely loved the water slides at Luray, it just would've been awesome to have a combination of the two at Luray. One thing I was really appreciative of is that because this trip was extremely last minute, natural bridge did not offer same day reservations but Luray did. I also thought the price of the golf cart rental was steep at something close to $90 a day when I am used to paying around $60 anywhere else we've been, but I guess that's irrelevant given that I paid it just like many others. I always get a golf cart in fear that the place we stay at will run out if we realize we are too far from the amenities that we want to go to but at this place, we were directly across from a field that led to the park, pools, arcade and everything so in hindsight, the golf cart really wasn't needed. Now to the not so good.. this was our first time being an rv'er. With no experience, I selected the basic rv spot. It wasn't terrible but we realized we might like one of the many open spots that didn't have the gravel and instead concrete. So the next morning we went to the office to inquire about getting a spot with concrete. The girl at the counter was on the computer for about 20-30 minutes as I stood there stupidly just waiting for some response and wondering what was taking her so long as it doesn't even take that long for a customer to go online and find a site. A little feedback as far as "this is what I'm doing, this is why it's taking so long, etc." would've been nice. She eventually had a guy come to help her and he was showing her how she would have to change it, pro rate the golf cart for one of the two nights, etc. that left me super uneasy as what if he didn't come to help and I chose to upgrade with someone who didn't know what she was doing and ended up paying even more than I was supposed to. I was over it at this point and when she said it was going to be like $80 something to upgrade, I decided it wasn't worth it. I later went back to ask a question about propane filling, as I stated, I am completely new to rv'ing and have no idea how it works. The one that I asked, was of course the same girl and she went to the back to ask. I would assume this is a pretty common feature and question about the park so for her to have absolutely no idea, was strange. She came back and told me that they only refill tanks that you already have and they don't fill rvs. Okay, that's fine but it would've been nice to have been given some other options as other places around the area that I could go to, but with her obvious lack of knowledge about anything, I just found out for myself. It was then, while I was at the office to inquire about a new site that I saw a newsletter on the counter about the days events. One of them, that my son really wanted to do was laser tag. It stated that you could sign up at the office from 9 am-7pm. This led us to believe that we had all day to sign up and whenever we were ready to commit to a time, we would head back up and sign up. We went back around 3 pm and were told that there were no available spots for the rest of the day. Given that laser tag is one of main attractions and really the only thing other than the pools and playgrounds that we were interested in and our last night in the park, this was such a disappointment. Like I said, we saw many open sights and didn't believe it was an above average busy weekend. It would've been really nice to know that there was a possibility of the spots filling up 4 hours before the newsletter says that you can sign up. I imagine there is a simple science to the ratio of visitors to the chance of getting a spot. Also, we saw no sighting of yogi at yogi...
Read moreAMAZING time for my family! There was soooo much to do!!! We loved all of the 3 pools, the splash pad, kiddie pools, and all of the water slides! There are 4 big water slides and several smaller ones for younger kids. There is also a grill near the pool area and an ice cream parlor. We rented a golf cart as well and that was a good investment as the kids had fun riding around on it but it's not necessary as you can drive your vehicle and park anywhere you want to go. There is a small store with basic necessities if you forget something like toiletries there is a free meet at greet with one of the bears every morning we were there by the flag pole as a yoga class with one of the bears. The yoga was some arm exercises only and was less than 4 minutes total, but the bear was there before and stayed after for visits and photo ops at no extra charge. It may have been short as it was July and hot and lots of little fliew swarming in everyone's face in that area, but we didn't experience those any other place or time during our stay. It may be a good idea to host this in the rec. center on hot and extra buggy days. Our cabin was very clean. Beds were comfortable enough. More firm mattresses, but we like that. I would bring a mattress pad or cover if you like a more soft or cushioned bed. We rented the smallest unit and had 2 air conditioning units. It was July and nice and cool the whole time in our room. There are many activities. Be sure to get the days itinerary and look on both sides of the sheet. When we were there they had a wet wagon ride and a foam party! These were free. We also did the Lazer tag. The Lazer guns didn't work consistently but the kids and husband had a wonderful time. This location is very close to Luray Caverns (5 miles away) and there are a lot of great places to eat close by in the area if you want to eat outside of the place. Highly recommend the Ollie Cat Cafe! Kids also enjoyed the arcade! There was also 2 outdoor playgrounds, 2 giant pillow things for kids to jump to thier hearts content. There was a little ninja warrior zip line thing that all the kids seemed to absolutely love, and a really nice play ground area. It was an amazing trip and we definitely plan to visit more Yogi Bear camps. They also have paddle boats, movie nights, putt putt, and more but we didn't have time for everything. All of the staff we meet were very friendly and nice. We had no problems and only the most wonderful memories of this place. I found this place because a lady in my mom's group said her kids love it here more than Disney so I had to try it out! I'm glad we came and from hearing the time my family had in July at Disney, I know we had a much better experience. It was very relaxing, and at night very peaceful and quiet. The whole surroundings are so picturesque with beautiful mountains. The night/"lights out" Lazer tag was about 2 times more than the earlier Lazer tag, but no different. I think since it is summer and it doesn't get dark at 8pm (latest you can book for Lazer tag) that was why. If we do Lazer tag again, I would book an earlier cheaper game. They do sell alcohol in thier little general store, which is also a gift shop. The grill by the pool does not serve any alcohol that I remember. Lastly, you can sign the kids up in the am to recive a handwritten letter from the character of thier choice! It was such a personalized and nice touch. The kids were elated to get thier letters! They do not provide life jackets for the kids so be sure to bring your own. Also, the smallest cabin that we rented does not have a fridge or microwave so be prepared for that. We just brought two coolers and bought a bag of ice at the store. All cabins seem to have a fire pit and a charcoal grill. You are maybe 10 minutes from a Walmart so if you need something from there, it's not far. There seemed to be no or very spotty internet service. All of the facilities were clean, the pools, showers, bathrooms, our cabins, everything. I love this place and so...
