Not ready to be a 5 start but a heavy 4.5 or better. The letters and numbers system for the roads are confusing and their website to book a reservation is just as bad.The booking website definitely needs a extreme makeover. The number of the road we were assigned, we road by 3 times because the 19 sign was not facing the direction of travel. It was all good though after about a day it’s not as confusing as it seems when you first arrive. The sites were mostly level and private. The store was well stocked but very pricey. Try not to forget any provisions as there is not much in town to choose from for food stores. They offer a free shuttle during the day to the Mackinaw Island Ferry but be prepared to jam into the bus like sardines. No trash pickup at your site but they have plenty of dumpsters to use at the trash disposal area. One thing I did find kind of cheesy and funny at the same time, they have an observation binoculars down by the lake. Well they want 50 cents to use it and see the island and bridge. I just thought that was funny because of the store and site prices are not cheep and the place was full all week with campers. Is that 50 cent really need to keep the operating expenses from going broke ? ??? I sure hope nope. They could use more showers though out the park and real bathrooms thought out the park. They have plenty of primitive toilets. You can also buy tickets to the Lumberjack show and Ferry tickets to Mackinaw Island at the office. I did see crews cutting overhead limbs and branch’s from the park roads. That was a good plus as many campgrounds have let their trees and bushes grow out into the roads damaging your truck and camper. There is no laundry facilities on site either so it’s a trip to town. I didn’t see any activities of any sort for kids or adults to do. Guess they do not get into that...
Read moreThis campground is absolutely wonderful. I was a bit nervous because they advertised as having 300 sites. I was afraid that with the amount of campsites, it would feel overwhelming, it would be noisy and loud, and we'd be packed in like sardines. Thankfully, this may be one of THE best campgrounds we have ever been to. It sits on the shore of Lake Huron overlooking the Mackinac Bridge and Mackinac Island. The sites are spacious and most are relatively private - there are trees around and between most sites. It is so quiet we have slept soundly every night and the people here are friendly, kind and helpful. The campground boasts lots of lakeshore, a beach, a pool, mini golf (it is concrete, so a whole different kind of game), basketball courts and several playgrounds. There is an old firetruck that drives around every evening that gives rides and takes you around the campground. The beach has fire pits that you can build a fire at where you can watch the sunset. We did not use the bathrooms or showers. The camp store is huge and has everything you would want including ice cream. There is a food truck every night we were there so you can find something to eat. The atmosphere and setting of this park is spectacular. I can't wait...
Read moreWe have thoroughly enjoyed our 13 night stay here. 600+ sites but so much privacy. Trees lining each and every site, so you don't have to see your neighbor, but the folks near us were super friendly too so got to meet them. The camp store had sufficient supplies, good ice cream, and good pizza. our site 830 is not along the water, but close to the shuttle pickup for the island ferry. Plenty of walking or biking available within the park, but also directly across the highway from the N Central State Trail, so just a 20-minute bike ride into the touristy area of Mackinaw City itself. Trash drop is in one lane as you exit the park, which can lead to longer wait times during high volume...
