We have been coming to Mill creek to camp for 4 years. The 2nd year we had an active bee hive that we asked multiple times to have removed. Finally after my 9 year old was stung 12 times all over her body, the hive was removed. Fast forward to our 2024 vacation, booked March 4th and We booked 2 sites. One for us and One for my 18 year old son, his 2 brothers who are 15 and 10, & their best friend who is 16. On August 2nd The boys set up their camp and were in their sleeping bags when they were approached by the camps security. They were asked if they were supposed to be at the site (I will update review with her name when I can get it, she needs to be recognized)They said yes, it was their site and then she brought to their attention, there was no tag on the post. The boys apologized and asked if they could run around the corner to their parents site (30.22seconds away by bike)and grab it, and then come back. They were told no, and that they were not allowed back the rest of the night. My boys then asked if they could at least leave their stuff there. They were again told no, to take their stuff with them. She then proceeded to say that if they could sleep on the ground at that site, they could sleep on the ground where they were going, which was our site. When our oldest son showed up, he asked the neighbor who made the complaint what had happened and she stated she thought they were squatters. Why then, didn’t the park attendant allow my boys to go grab all their info to prove it was their site ?Why tell them they were not allowed back on the site even though they were willing to grab their info and post it? Her comment about sleeping on the ground… I have no words. Since we were not allowed to use that site our first night , we explained the situation to Merissa, the “lead” over the camp staff at the entrance and requested a refund. She stated she had to get with her “higher up’s” for any refunds. Hopefully they will make this “right” and not keep our money since we were not allowed to use the site and treated horribly by their staff. we have never had this experience in the past. This is our fourth consecutive year. My boys were very respectful and in their sleeping bags when approached. You would have thought they were dealing with a gang of hoodlums who were drunk and mouthing off, giving them a hard time. The sad part is our kids have made many friends they look forward to meeting up with every year, they are the reason we keep coming back, and they were the ones treated so poorly. It would be a shame to never return. We were NOT refunded the money for our 1st night, nor were we called back regarding our issue after speaking with Merissa so therefore our review for Mackinaw Mill creek campground is being posted. I’d like to add the bathrooms and showers are kept clean and the cleaning staff were all very nice and pleasant to deal with on...
Read moreI'm at the end of a two week stay here and for the most part it has been great. The staff is fantastic and went out of their way to move me from a very non-private site to a very private site. Bring them a treat, they deserve it. Kind, caring and very considerate, five stars to the staff.
My first campsite was a one star. Four sites squished together more suited for a large group camping together. I stayed one night and asked to move immediately.
Second site was a five star site. Large and very private with trees all around. Checkout 2034 if you like primitive camping.
Uncontrollable things are the people in the campground. Yes had some noisy neighbors that faught and threatened death on each other. The staff handled them well and they were no longer a problem.
Controllable things like the bathrooms. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean they are kept.
The showers leave a lot to be desired though. First it's really gross to be showering with May flies and mosquitoes. Dead flies covering the floor and the shower curtains covered with them crawling all over them. But what is worse is the lack of security for a women's shower. Just a screen door and then shower curtains hanging to create the stalls. I took one shower there and asked my friend if I could impose on her for the remainder of my time here. Take it from someone who has been attacked in a campground shower, this place is perfect for an attack to happen. No locks, no privacy, no protection of any kind. If you're going to shower take your mace and weapon with you.
Oh but let's not forget there is no way to control your water temperature for your shower. Push the button and you have water for a minute or two and each time you push it the temperature gets hotter until your skin is scorched and it's too hot to let it hit your skin. I think the campground can do a whole lot better in the shower area to improve safety and security along with ease and comfort. One star.
Overall I would come back in a pinch but the locals have shown me where the free camping is. At least out in the forest I know my dangers. This campground has too many dangers for a woman and they try to sedate you into closing your eyes to them. Just watch yourself and take precautions. Don't fall asleep on your safety because this...
Read moreThis is our family’s third year of camping, and this is our third year of coming to Mackinaw Mill Creek. I am by far an expert when it comes to camping or campgrounds. That being said, I make sure I research as much as possible when choosing a campground. This includes reading reviews.
The negative reviews on here that are recent are nothing more than the entitlement minded society that we have become. When you stay here or a place like here, it’s a campground, in the woods. It’s not a 5 star hotel with a concierge and high speed internet. Those complaining about the WiFi speed, it is very slow. Much slower than the hotspot on my phone. Once again, you ARE CAMPING. If you are so worried about Wi-Fi, then get starlink for your camper. Or go to one of those private campgrounds where it’s $100 plus a night.
For the others complaining about being next to family. A quick glance of the park map clearly shows what sites are what and where they are located. Common sense and a view of the map would clearly point out that the pull through site wasn’t right next to your back in site. If you backed yours in, why couldn’t you help your friend back theirs in?
The other person complaining about the dogs. Reading your review, it appears anything other than a blind and deaf senior dog, is an aggressive breed. Maybe a campground that doesn’t allow pets is a good pick for you. If you are that concerned about aggressive breeds, the campground is big enough that you could have easily stayed away from the dog run area.
I won’t go into detail of all the other nonsense superfluous reviews. I will say that we love this campground and so does our family. It’s common knowledge among people who camp about the Midge flies. Once again, you are CAMPING. I’m a small business owner myself, and it’s people like the ones I mentioned in my review here and more that leave inept reviews and blame everyone else that will drive small business owners away and you will be left with robots and horrid customer service? Take some accountability for your own actions and choices. And obviously don’t go camping if you can’t get your Wi-Fi, hate bugs, and are afraid of dogs. I’m sure Starbucks might let you park your TT...
